Everyone leaves Cairn Hill having experienced something special. Be sure to watch our new video clip and see why! It sits on 5 acres of mature pines just outside Flagstaff. View mountains and the Milky Way from the hot tub and delight in sunshine or snow falling on one of the many corners of the massive flagstone patio. Memories will be made on the romantic patio outside the French doors of the master suite with a vaulted ceiling and sunken Jacuzzi. Venture out for hiking and biking in the neighboring forest service or head for Grand Canyon or Sedona 1 hr away. Bring outdoors in with Windows! and as many corners to enjoy inside as out. There is a wood burning fireplace and 2 gas stoves for warming on winter evenings after skiing. Then enjoy meals, intimate for 2 or 20+ at adjoining dining areas separated by 3 steps and a wood railing. Gather in the fully equipped kitchen or in front of the 55' TV in the Great Room. 5 bedrooms, parking for RVs and tent sites make for the perfect space for all friend and family reunions.
The Great Room:
Everyone on Cairn Hill is drawn to the 500 square foot sunken Great Room. Wood graces the entire house but nowhere is its presence and spirit felt more strongly then here in this gathering room with its soaring vaulted ceiling, where wood wrapped windows abound. Two French doors and an added single leading to the hot tub truly bring the outdoors – indoors. Two couches and a love seat surround the 55' satellite HDTV with all components and TIVO. There are 2 recliners snuggled up to the gas stove set in the corner for excellent warming, reading and spectacular mountain viewing. This great room also sets the stage for hilarity with the included karaoke machine. Now is the chance to see how good you really are! (French doors are sealed in the winter, ecologically saving fuel and furniture in this room can be used for extra sleeping space, if desired.)
Outdoors:
The house on Cairn Hill is surrounded by 3,000 sq. feet of flagstone patio. Included are a gas barbecue grill, table, seating for 20+, fire ring, swings for adults and children, lounge chairs for catching those year round rays and umbrella for escaping them. 30+ species of birds have been seen on the property. There is a 'bluebird trail' with 6 houses to encourage them to hang around. There are maintained flower gardens and critters who visit including fox, javelina and elk. The elk have been known to eat of the flowers and from the bird feeders. We appreciate your help in avoiding this. If you show up – they will leave. Cairn Hill is its own sledding hill with guaranteed belly laughs!
Kitchen and Dining:
There are 2 Dining areas, one on the upper level seating 4-6 and the other stepped down on the side of the great room seating up to 12. (More tables are available for larger parties.) There is also a breakfast bar just off the kitchen with 2 stools.
The Kitchen has 2 refrigerators, 2 ovens, ice maker, trash compactor, dishwasher, microwave and blender. Sorry no granite countertops, we don't consider them necessary for the perfect mountain vacation!
A large Pantry with lots of storage space and a second refrigerator is right off the kitchen.

Why the Owner Chose Flagstaff
We moved our 6 children to Flagstaff in 1991. We were seeking a mountain community, sunshine, clean air and wonderful people. We found them all in Flagstaff and feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to call it home.

The word Cairn is of Irish descent. A Cairn is a pile of stones set to mark a sacred place or used as a landmark set on a trail to show the way. Our cairn has served to guide us through our spectacular journey on the hill where we raised our 6 children. Now our path has taken us to smaller quarters for just the two us and we want to share our special space with all of you. We hope you find your way.

Kitchen was better than fully equipped! Beds - cozy. Bathrooms - huge! Just for fun, we found out all ten of us could stand comfortably in the upstairs bathroom. Coffee by the gas stove watching the sunrise light up the San Francisco peaks - ahhhhhh. Accommodating and gracious host family - Indeed! Will plan another visit there - absolutely!

Six couples had the most amazing weekend at Cairn Hill. It's exactly as gorgeous, secluded and well-maintained as the listing suggests. The owner, Janece, was wonderful and responsive. It was a perfect rental experience. I'm convinced you won't find a nicer property in Flagstaff. Our friends' guestbook entries say it all: "This was one of the greatest weekends of my life. Dear Janece and Tom, Simply the best Christmas of our lives! Everything was absolutely perfect! We couldn’t decide what feature was the favorite - oldest 6 grandkids say the bunkhouse, the youngest and oldest say the sledding hill, the skiers say the hot tub, the parents say enough areas for everyone. All of us loved the homey feel of your home! The views, location, etc. etc. etc. Thank you so much for the beautiful family memories we will cherish forever!

We had such a great stay! The home was comfortable and we especially liked the views, the birds and other wild life. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and the ample dining spaces. We appreciate having enough towels for all of us. Your location is ideal! In four days we went to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Jerome, Montezuma Castle, Sunset Volcano and lava beds, Wupatki National Monument (the loop drive is awesome!) Lowell Observatory, and downtown Flagstaff. Thank you so much!

Cairn Hill House was a fabulous setting for our 4 generation family vacation. It was enjoyed by family members from 10 months to 85 years of age. We enjoyed walks through country roads and soothing hot tub soaks. There were quiet nooks for reading and late night gatherings around the fire pit. Mexican game night, family dinners and the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets from the warm, cozy family room. Thanks for giving our family a truly memorable week.

We had a wonderful time. My grandchildren, aged 3, 7 and 9 thought they could live there forever. My 7 year old grandson was always feeding the birds and the squirrels and named the horses next door. My 2 sons and daughter and their wives and husband were also smitten with the trees and the outside soft cool breezes. They all stayed at different times and called when they arrived back in Scottsdale to the 104 degree and were so sad they had to leave. It was JUST GREAT!

Our family of 12 hiked the South Kaibab Trail into the Grand Canyon down 7 miles for 7 hours on Sunday, 8/14/11. Phantom Ranch overnight. Monday 3:15 am up Bright Angel Trail, 9 ½ miles for 9 ¾ hours. The 10 of the family hiking are 9 years to 72 years. All said and done, I know heaven is above me. I also know we hikers found your home heaven for 2 ½ days. Your home is tastefully done from the heart with love. And it was a treat meeting your daughter! Thank you!

The Canyons are beautiful, that’s for sure, but in my eyes they can’t hold a candle to the beauty, serenity, warmth and love that Cairn Hill is in my eyes and my heart.
