“Cedars on the Sound” – Private waterfront home on 7.7 acres, serene forest walks, bountiful wildlife, minutes from Olympia. Relax and reconnect in comfort while surrounded by breathtaking views.
Be sure to check out our video! The video is located to the left, above the photos. Just click on the video tab to watch the video, it will give you a very good idea of just how relaxing and peaceful Cedars on the Sound really is. If you prefer, you can watch it on YouTube by searching for 'Cedars on the Sound' Enjoy!
Imagine yourself just minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown, yet completely in nature with hardly a neighbor in sight! Private waterfront and forest for just you and your loved ones. There are other waterfront rentals in Olympia, but many have neighbors right next door; our property is exceedingly private, allowing you to relax and reconnect. The best of both worlds: the serenity of nature and the comfort of a well-appointed home.
Take a walk in the forest, relax in the sunroom as you sip your morning coffee or evening glass of wine, watch a movie, play a board game on the coffee table, grill up oysters you collected from just in front of the house....you can live this Northwest dream lifestyle!
This is a wildlife enthusiast’s dream! We have a journal of daily wildlife sightings on and around the property starting in 1990. They include: seals, otters, ducks, eagles, gulls, deer, raccoon and many more. Come see for yourself!
Your comfort is our number one priority. Our home has new beds and high quality linens and towels. The kitchen is fully stocked and the outdoor grill is ready for a BBQ. Our home is immaculate and we use only natural cleaning products (for the good of the environment as well as our guests with allergies). If you need to work, there is an office as well as very fast wireless internet for your convenience.
We are very accessible! We have just updated the bathrooms to include new ADA accessible toilets. The entire home is on one level. There are no stairs inside the home and there is a ramp from the driveway to the front door. There are stairs to the back patio, but they can be avoided by walking on the path around the house.
We are family friendly! One of the bedrooms features two twin beds and little ones can play or sleep in our play yard (portable crib). We have a high chair and children's plates, cups and 'silverware' that are BPA-free. There are plug covers in the main living areas and the only stairs are outside, down to the patio - great for the kids! We have lots of kid-friendly movies, games, puzzles, and books. Also, the backyard has a low fence (which does not obstruct the view) surrounding 1/4 acre so you can rest assured the little ones are close while you relax together outside.

We very much enjoyed our week long stay here at Cedars on the Sound. In fact, it was probably the nicest home we have ever stayed at. It was very clean and easy to see the owners take exceptional care to make their guests feel welcome. The instructions for everything were very clear and easy to follow. My husband and I have 3 young children and the owners left a very clean pack and play available for our use. We appreciated all of the helpful little touches that go a long way when children are along. They even had outlet covers, a framed phone number list for emergency contacts right by the phone, childrens books and night lights. We took advantage of the week of sun and headed directly outdoors every morning for a walk in the woods. It was so quiet both day and night. We kept the bedrooms a bit on the warmer side at night for the kids and the baseboard heat was silent! We plan to come back at least once every year.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

From our guestbook: We had a wonderful stay. Our son's wedding was less stressful having Cedars to return to every night after busy days of wedding plans. We hosted a lovely dinner for the wedding party and everyone loved "the cabin." My son and his new bride were able to spend time here and getting to know our new daughter-in-law was much easier having a "home" to come to every night. Thank you for a lovely stay!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Cedars on the Sound did not disappoint. It's a beautiful property and home. Even the view from the kitchen sink is lovely. The owner was completely welcoming and generous, and cared very much about making our stay comfortable in every way. Everything of necessity is well supplied. We had privacy and yet we were within an easy drive to main areas of the city. Certainly, we hope to return one day. Thank you!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

“Cedars on the Sound!” Those words have a beautiful visual and audio impression in our minds since we stayed at Cedars on the Sound on in Olympia, Washington, on Puget Sound. We stayed over the Christmas Holidays with family for two weeks. The uniqueness started even before we arrived with our pleasant communications with the owners. Upon our arrival, we were met with fresh baked cookies on the counter, and the cookies turned out to be just the beginning of our feeling welcomed and comfortable. We were impressed with how the owners planned everything they could to make us feel comfortable and welcomed. Logs for our use were next to the wood-burning stove to add atmosphere to our winter stay. Close up and personal views of the sounds were vivid from the dining and living room, sunroom, and master bedrooms. Views from the other windows were of the dense seven acres, parkland-like woods of ferns, and cedars. Only one pretty house was visible at a far distance across the sound. At night the house looked as though it were a Thomas Kinkaide scene through the trees. The entire house was clean and fresh. The amenities were more than adequate and useful. Dishes, flatware, pots and pans, cooking utensils were all neatly organized and clean. A well-planned neighborhood store was only a mile away, full-fledged Capitol Mall shopping center with all the big box stores, car malls, and grocery stores about 10 minutes away. We toured the nearby Washington State Capitol, Tumwater Park, and enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Terrace Falls Restaurant with views of the falls, all within the Historic District, and right around the lake from the Capitol. We were amazed at how we could leave the beautiful and pristine, quiet area of Cedars on the Sound and how quickly we could be in a full-blown urban area. We took a couple afternoons to visit the nearby Flight Museum and many other interesting areas near Seattle and the vicinity. The owners provided a lovely binder of many interesting places to visit. We could have spent another two weeks or more and enjoyed every minute. We will look forward to a return vacation at this site. We highly recommend a stay at this location. We think we found the ultimate in both a living and vacationing site. Owner info
About the owner: We are local owners and manage every aspect of the property ourselves. We live only 5 miles away, so if you need anything during your stay, we can be there in no time to help you. We know lots of great local spots: restaurants, walks, shopping, outdoor activities & lots more. Just let us know if you need anything!
Why the Owner Chose Olympia:
We love living in the Northwest! We have lived in Wisconsin, Malaysia, California, China, but nowhere is better than Olympia, WA!
We had moved around a lot for our jobs and finally decided we wanted to find the perfect place to live: temperate climate, near the water with great natural beauty. We toured around the Northwest and as soon as we came to Olympia, we knew this was home. Olympia is great because it has all the amenities of a city, but you can jump on the highway and be in nature in no time.
When this property became available, we could not resist the 500 feet of waterfront on almost 8 acres, 3 acres of oysterbeds and almost 5 acres of private forest. We were sold! This home is only 5 miles from our primary home, but it feels like a world away. The feeling we get when we turn down the wooded drive is unmatched. The sense of relaxation and calm as we look out on the cove beats any other vacation spot we have ever visited.
We are still amazed we can watch the cormorants flying in to roost for the night in the trees in front of the cove, then just a few minutes later be right downtown having a great meal in one of Olympia's many fantastic and unique restaurants.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We are one of the most quiet vacation rental homes in Olympia. Our nearest neighbor is acres away. Other rental properties in Olympia have neighbors; just look on their maps - neighbors RIGHT next door! Who wants to go on vacation and listen to the people next door? Escape to Cedars on the Sound - tranquility and luxury on 7.7 private acres for just you and your loved ones.
Each season brings something special. Summers here are, to many people's surprise, extremely pleasant. While the rest of the country is sweltering in the heat, our average temperature is in the high 70s with very little if any rain. The weather is perfect for sitting out on our patio and grilling up some burgers or throwing on some oysters from the cove with a little butter and lemon....yum! The tides are very dramatic in the summer and it is great to sit outside and watch as the cove empties and fills twice a day.
The autumn brings amazing fall colors. Our property has so many trees and the changes are spectacular. In particular, the Japanese maples turn incredible hues of yellow, orange and red.
The winter is a great time to fire up the wood stove and cuddle up in the sunroom with a great book and escape the world outside. We do get an occasional snow dusting, turning our forest into a winter wonderland.
The spring brings our gorgeous rhododendrons into full bloom. The birds return and the forest and cove are teeming with wildlife.
