The Mesa (Beach Area) townhome description

Come stay in our newly furnished town home located on the Santa Barbara East Mesa, just minutes away from beaches, parks, and downtown. This was our home before we moved East; it’s in a quiet complex with families and other professionals and was too nice a place to give up. So we didn't. We rented it for a while annually, but now that we travel to California fairly often we've converted it to a second home and offer it periodically as an executive/transition housing.

We stay with our kids when we come out for as many combined business trip/family vacations as we can manage. Our parents stay when they are in Santa Barbara for business or holiday. And you could stay, if you’d like, with all the comforts of our home-away from home.

Our home is has two nice sized bedrooms--one with a full King bed (not the so-called California King that always seems a little too cramped)--and the other with two twin beds one with a trundle. It sleeps 5 comfortably.

We've not only got the mandatory Internet access with a wireless router, but a cozy “business center” with a printer, fax and copier. The phone system in the home has three wireless handsets, and if you've got Skype, Google Voice, or some other IP phone, the hardware is already there for you.

As far as the kitchen goes. Stocked with everything you could want for cooking at a short term rental. Pots and pans, utensils, colanders, spices, etc. (nothing worse than spending $5 because you need 1T of a spice!)

What else? Flat Screen TV, DVD player, Cable (of course), Fireplace, Laundry (washer and dryer), garage with lots of storage, and more.

Besides our three kids, we've got two dogs that we love (they don’t travel with us to Santa Barbara) but they do come with us on other vacations. So if you want to bring your pet or kids, you’re welcome to do so as long as they are also quiet and can live within the guidelines of the community. (Advance notice and pet fee may apply--to pets, not kids.)

We’re away from the noise of downtown and the freeway that runs right through the center of town, yet we’re just a few minutes away from everything--downtown, beaches, parks. In fact there’s a nice small park less than 100 feet from the front door where you can take your pet, your kids, or just hang out yourself.

Lazy Acres, probably the best healthy food market in Santa Barbara is two blocks away, as is Alcazar, which we think has the best tapas in town, Mexi-Fresh - which has some of the best Mexican food, and Blenders in the Grass - when you’re in the mood for a smoothie. When you are arrive at the town home you’ll find our handy “Locals Guide to Santa Barbara “ which lists all the special hikes, beaches, restaurants, wineries, activities etc. that we would recommend during your stay. If you want to plan in advance, please feel free to ask and we are glad to make suggestions!

Our town home is located in the heart of the Mesa. Steps from La Mesa park and the beach, you can walk to breakfast, lunch or dinner, the local grocery store Lazy Acres (we call it Crazy Acres!) a spa, Starbucks, you name it!

There are many activities to enjoy in Santa Barbara. A simple weekend on the Mesa for us often starts with a Friday night at Alcazar Tapas Bar for some live music and drinks. The restaurant is only .25 mi from the town home so it's an easy walk home late at night.

Saturday morning might bring breakfast at Mesa Cafe after grabbing a coffee at Starbucks. Again - you can walk to everything from our place if you want to avoid jumping in and out of your car.

We love hiking and frequent the trails in the area - one of our favorites to bring friends that have just come to the area, is Inspiration Point. Challenging but doable for almost anyone, the views at the top are a huge reward!

Post hike it's time for a smoothie at the Daily Grind on Mission. While you're in the area, you might stop BY the Mission and walk in the Rose gardens for a bit. So beautiful.

Saturday afternoon at the spa or shopping is always fun. Santa Barbara has many options for either! There's also a fabulous Farmers Market downtown if you're into that sort of thing.

For dinner we could go on and on with options. We've left a binder at the house that lists all of our favorites depending on your mood!

Sunday AM there's no better way to start the day then at the Art Walk. Grab a smooth from Lazy Acres or Blenders in the Grass (smoothies) and either drive or stroll down Shoreline park beach path (which runs over 10 miles into Montecito) until you reach the Pier where the art walk begins. Every Sunday morning, local artists set up their wares all along the beach path and you can stroll and view, and or buy. Talk a walk out to the end of the peer for some lunch at Longboards or to grab some ice-cream before making your way back up the hill home.

Whatever you decide to do, you'll have a wonderful time!!

About the owner: My husband and I bought this property as our first home, before we were married (SCANDALOUS!) over 10 years ago now. We got engaged in the home, adopted two boxers here, and were married. After our first child was born we moved back east to Boston and began renting. In the 8 years that we've lived away, we have had only 3 tenants. They were all fabulous! Each one would come, newly married, get pregnant, have a baby and eventually move on. We had decided a year or so ago when our most recent tenants moved, that we wanted to convert our home into a second home so that we could bring our 3 children back to Santa Barbara more easily and continue the bi-coastal lifestyle we've tried to maintain but have found tricky to do out of a hotel room. We finally got our chance!

Why the Owner Chose The Mesa (Beach Area):
We use VRBO all the time as a family and have traveled to different areas in the states and beyond. We made a commitment when we took the plunge to VRBO to offer our renters all the conveniences of a home while they stayed with us. We've bought beautiful furniture, VERY comfortable mattresses (I don't want to go home to my own now!), a stocked kitchen of appliances and tools, TV, DVD, Wireless internet with networked printer, games, books -- the list goes on! We've always maintained this rental to attract newlyweds, executives or families.

The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
As I mentioned above, our home is lovely and comfortable, but that's not why people come to Santa Barbara - to sit around in the house. Two things that make our home unique: 1. Location, Location, Location! It's what my husband told me when we first bought the place, and now I find myself telling people all the time! We are so centrally located it's easy to jump in the car and hit downtown for shopping, the mountains for hiking or just stay on foot and walk the mesa for food, spa and/or the beach. 2. We love to share! We love to share what we love and have created our bible of Santa Barbara for you to use and create your own adventures. The binder in our home shares all of our favorites, from Spas and Yoga studios, to hikes and bike rentals. We've also left a place for other visitors to add to the collection of information so jump on in and share!
