Location: Gouldsboro, Acadia, Maine, USA (Gouldsboro - close to Acadia & Winter Harbor/ 1 hr to Bangor)
Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms, 4 Baths (Sleeps 7)
Spacious house on two acres is perfect for family, extended family, or up to 3 couples. Come to a house whose character and charm match that of Maine itself. A former B&B, this lovingly restored, four-bedroom, 1870 home is set on two landscaped acres, less than a mile from the ocean. Space and privacy for a family or up to three couples. Gardens, croquet, tranquility, yet close to Maine's rich array of outdoor activities. Beautifully appointed interior, each room inviting, confortable, unique. A large, sunny country kitchen you will love to cook in. And for privacy and confort, each of the bedrooms has its own spacious bath. The layout of the rooms gives wonderful flexibility to your living/sleeping arrangements. There is a bedroom on the first floor; two bedrooms on the second floor of the main wing of the house; while a second interior stairway leads to the East Wing, which has a sitting room, bedroom, and bath.
Fresh flowers and blueberry pie to greet you. And if you are new to Maine, a lobster-cooking lesson by a former local chef!
The Schoodic Peninsula is home to the 2000-acre mainland portion of Acadia National Park -- all the beauty without all the tourists. This region is one of the undiscovered gems of Maine, offering a solitude rarely attainable elsewhere. It boasts spectacular scenery, including the largest rock outcropping in the state. On stormy days especially, the surf crashing into rocks will not soon be forgotten.
The house is within walking distance of an organic farm and kayak outfitter, and is a short drive to the ocean trails and dramatic scenery of the Schoodic section of Acadia; the charming coastal town of Winter Harbor, with its restaurants, shops, galleries, and old-fashioned 5&10 store; ferry trip or easy drive to Bar Harbor; ferry to Nova Scotia; a 2500-acre bird sanctuary; large fresh-water "pond" with children's swimming and canoeing area; a golf course that almost falls into the ocean; fresh lobster from the co-op; and much more.
Return from your daily adventures to a peaceful, aesthetic setting. It is unusual to find a house so close to the ocean with the additional advantage of being situated on two landscaped acres: plenty of room for children to run and romp and otherwise spend their plentiful energy (while you sip your wine in the garden). New, full-size baby crib available, which is very difficult to find in rental houses. $1250 per week or $5000 per month, with weekly housekeeping.
Non-smoking. No pets.
