Acerca de este alojamiento
Mathieside Cairn Cottage - a cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 1 bedroom
Manyleith Rig Cottage is set at the head of the picturesque Tweed Valley, close to where this famous river rises before it starts the long journey to the sea, the superb Borders scenery, culture and heritage is all on the doorstep. One of four unique and charming cottages, all with great character and graded 3 star by Visit Scotland, which have been converted from the former courtyard stables and coach houses for Hearthstanes House. The rural tranquillity of the area can be fully enjoyed but if you want to sample the bustle of Edinburgh's famous Princes Street it is less than an hour's drive away. A holiday at Hearthstanes really does give you the chance of enjoying Scotland at its best with access to Estate footpaths and tracks from which to enjoy the lovely valley or venture to the top of Broad Law Hill which at 2,756ft gives a panoramic view of all the area.
A dramatic and scenic drive over the hill, past Talla Reservoir, takes you into the Ettrick Valley beside St Mary's Loch and then onto the famous Borders Towns of Selkirk, Galashiels, Hawick and Melrose. The Border Towns all have Common Riding events through the summer recalling the days of Border Reivers and it is well worth taking the opportunity to see the horse cavalcades if you have the chance. Alternately for day trips take your pick of Abbeys at Melrose, Jedburgh or Dryburgh, Houses such as Abbotsford or Traquair House (with an added attraction of the Brewery) or Gardens such as Dawyck which has a fabulous collection of Azaleas.
The Hearthstanes itself is mostly a Site of Special Scientific Interest so the local wildlife abounds. The ethos of sustainability has been championed and promoted by the Estate with a private hydro scheme, installed about 30 years ago, providing all electricity for the Estate cottages, houses and farms.
Outdoor entertainment is boundless but if the weather is poor then there is a fully computerised ten pin bowling alley in the steading as well, available by arrangement & at extra cost.
