About the host
Hosted by Mattias Haeren
I am a environmental engineer from Sweden. I moved permanently to Greece in 1998 and since then have been working with water treatment throughout Greece. I live in Marmari since 2011.
Why they chose this property
Why Marmari - Villa Appetite? My job has meant that during the more than 20 years I've lived here, I travel a lot all over Greece. What struck me early on was that there is enormous diversity and variety in the Greek environment, in many different areas: nature, climate, culture, political (no) and economic. However, what is quite common throughout Greece is hospitality and curiosity about other people and cultures. It is more the rule than the exception to be drawn into deep discussions about everything possible (but especially politics) with completely casual acquaintances.
It also struck me early on that in the tourist resorts, which I also often visit for work, you often don't get to experience the diversity. They are, in a way, genuinely Greek environments (of course, since the tourism industry is Greece's biggest industry), pleasant, usually hospitable environments but often a bit rectified, dressed up and arranged. Often the focus is only on sun and swimming, which is a shame as there is so much more.
This also became very clear when I moved permanently from Athens to Marmari. All of a sudden I live in an incredibly multifaceted environment where everything is outside the cottage knot... a fantastic untouched nature, fantastic beaches, seclusion for contemplation, immediate proximity to local vibrant folk life and the metropolitan rhythm of Athens! Something completely different from many islands that have been living off tourism for decades and when I visit them in the winter I find neither food nor hotels....

What makes this property unique
Are you interested in visiting an unexploited, genuine part of Greece and a little bit adventurous? Welcome to Villa Appetite - Marmari - South Evia! This part of Evia is reminiscent on the west coast of the dry Cycladic islands and on the east coast of the green flamboyant Pelion! Despite the fact that the distance is no more than between 5 - 20 km! It is awesome! And very beautiful! In half an hour you completely change the environment! On the west side gently rolling dry hills with lots of sheltered sandy beaches with crystal clear water. On the east coast, dramatic gorges, mountain massifs and river passages that open onto beautiful beaches with softly polished marble stones.
