Ask a questionAbout Kathryn Bennett
Your host, artist Kata Bennett, comes from a family dedicated to the preservation of New Mexico’s beautiful and extensive history. Northern New Mexico history has been her avocation since incubated by her father, as one of her fondest memories is him driving her around New Mexico collecting Santos and WPA furniture. Beginning in the thirties, her parents and grandmother were instrumental in restoring Old Town in Albuquerque, along with a handful of other artists, installing the canons and bandstand there. The Bennett family’s restoration work was so impressive that the Duke and Duchess of Albuquerque, the first to visit since the colinization, had dinner and honored their extensive work while visiting the family property in Old town. The Bennett’s also helped found the Little Theatre and brought reinactments of Coronado’s Entrada and other plays to little villages across the northern territory. Kata’s passion for restoring the Santa Cruz Plaza now includes restoring many of the properties here. Kata is a superb host and will try to fulfill any request, answer any questions, regale you with stories of the area or leave you completely alone if that is what you desire. We look forward to meeting you. Your stay helps to fund this extensive project. Thank you!
