About Carol Matsumoto

I grew up in North Dakota and moved to Connecticut in my 30s. I soon realized that I had come to a part of the country very different then where I grew up. I missed the down home hospitality and meeting new people. The vacation rental and B&B business (I also run a B&B) has given me the oportunity to meet many new friends.

Carol Matsumoto purchased this house in 1994

Why Carol Matsumoto chose

This home is next door to where I lived for nine years raising my children. I always thought that the home was special, an 18th century gem. When the oportunity to purchase it became available I went for it and the rest is history.

What makes this house unique

It sits on six acres of land. In the back of the property lies a 17th century cemetery. Our village was incorporated in 1687. The home is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the grandest home in town; once owned by a ships Captain. It is not just a cabin or place to gather but an exceptional home that will become a part of your gathering memories.

Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion at this property and took it for five nights. We use all seven bedrooms. They all had bathrooms. This is hard to find. It was a bit expensive but when we got there we were totally surprised how gorgeous the propery was. It had things going for it that we hadn't had at other reunions. The billiard room with the big TV was great. We set up volley ball outside and a small pool for the kids. The kitchen can only be described as awesome. We cooked some meals on the large deck. The owners live next door and whenever we needed something (gas for the gril) they were right there to help us. They even found us a babsitter for one night! We will be back. It was worth every penny.

Nice large property with great character. Owners are nice and communicate quickly via email. Not often you can find a house with 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. Big gathering rooms, nice game room with pool table, nice decks. Three suggestions: be sure to understand the difference between B&B and just renting the facility; many of the reviews of the property refer to the B&B amenities and it is easy to assume they are included, but they are not. The bath towels had a terrible moldy, mildew smell; I think they came from the laundry room basement and finally, the house was not really clean. Lots of dust on the ledges in the bedrooms and the flat areas around the beds. The house is still a project underway, with kitchen cabinets to be built. So, if you are looking for a large facility with character, this is it. The owners really need to fix the towel situation and be more clear during the rental process about the different options/costs available. The plumbing needs some work; some of the bathtub showers do not work well, dividing the water between the tub outlet and shower outlet.

Owner's Response: This party stayed in our home for three days. We live next door at an adjoining property. That makes it convenient to ask our guests if they are having a good time and need anything at all. I did this twice during their stay. He stated that they were having a great time and that everything in the house was fine. We always respond to any problem immediately but we must be made aware of the problem. To address the dust all that I can say is that the home was dusted from top to bottom that morning and an inspection made. It was entirely vacuumed as well. The towels during high season are washed every day. I do not want any of our guests to have a mildew smell in their towels and would have exchanged them immediately if I had known the situation. We are adding on to our kitchen cabinets. This is a state of the art kitchen. It has a six burner gas stove, three electric ovens, one side-by-side refrigerator and one 18 cubic foot refrigerator. It also has two microwaves. The kitchen is not in disrepair. When this family arrived the wife was disappointed immediately. She expected a full breakfast every morning and all of the extra trimmings that we give our B&B guests. We advertise the extra trimmings but give potential guests the opportunity to rent at a cheaper rate without those amenities. This couple also had that choice.
