Welcome to Playa Grande, a quiet laidback beach on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica known for its world class surfing, sailing and fishing, nesting area for the endangered Leatherback sea turtle and home to several Howler monkey troops. Our villa is a new, elegant, comfortable and spacious two story home just 600 feet from a stunning beach and pristine water in Marino Las Baulas National Park. This villa is one of five villas and offers the best in quality furniture/beds. Additionally this villa is the most private and quiet of the 5 villas. The modern, fully equipped kitchen opens to the dining area and family room offering a 42” flat screen TV w/DVD player and an adjacent rear courtyard providing abundant natural light. Off the Family Room is the Queen Bedroom with connecting bathroom and sliding glass door access to the courtyard.
On the second floor, at the top of the stairs, is a quiet Loft/Sitting area outfitted with another 42” flat screen and Futon couch. Off the Loft Area is the large Master Bedroom/bathroom which includes a furnished outdoor Veranda with ceiling fan, overlooking the salt water swimming pool below. A desk/office area and printer is also included in the Master bedroom. On the rear side of this bedroom is a smaller veranda with views of the surrounding rain forest where you’ll see tropical birds and an occasional family of Howler Monkeys. Finally, the Twin bedroom with picture window(which makes you feel as if you're in a tree house), bathroom and full laundry are also located on this floor.
This villa is the perfect place to come back to after a day of adventures or relaxing. The Costa Rican people are friendly, the food is fresh, the (Imperial) beer is excellent and the coffee is……Costa Rican. Playa Grande is a great place to do any number of exciting and interesting activities even if one of those happens to be..... doing absolutely nothing.
This villa comes with all the amenities that you need including items that reduce your need to go shopping (i.e. paper supplies). In fact - let us do the shopping for you so you can relax.
The SHORT NOTICE SPECIAL rate is for two people only and does not apply to holiday weeks.

About Bob Nash
Mary Ann and I currently live in Southern Maryland having moved here after 30 years living in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Mary Ann is now a retired bookkeeper/secretary. I am a RF Test Engineer employed with a government contractor as a Senior Systems Analyst supporting projects at a local Naval Air Station . We became familiar with Playa Grande through friends, Tom and Freda Rothermel of Tempe, AZ, who own Villas Costa Grande #2 (Villa Bougainvillea).
Bob Nash purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Bob Nash chose Playa Grande Estates
We chose this villa because of its location close to the Pacific Ocean next to a beautiful, mostly deserted beach in Marino Las Baulas National Park. The villa is north of Playa Grande village where it is more quiet and peaceful. Many good restaurants, a surf shop with bicycle rentals, a food market and medical facilities are nearby. At the same time, a more active tourist community with shops, restaurants and hotels can be found twenty minutes away in the city of Tamarindo. If you are a bit adventurous, you can visit Tamarindo by walking the length of Playa Grande beach and taking the ferry across the Tamarindo Estuary. Estuary wildlife tours are also available at very reasonable prices.
What makes this Villa unique
We found that Villa #3 was the most private location in the complex and the only home with an outdoor courtyard adjoining the Family Room. This space, combined with the multiple sliding glass doors covering the back wall of the Family Room, provides beautiful natural light throughout the day. We also saw that the upstairs Loft/Sitting Area and the outdoor Veranda would be perfect spots for quiet time, reading, morning coffee and evening drinks. Please read the reviews written by our renters on this web page. Thank you.

Close to beach!! Clean, spacious, dark.
Our family of 4 stayed a week here, upon arrival we noticed it is very large and very well kept and clean which is nice compared to other places we've rented here in CR. how ever the unit in the pictures is not the unit that is for rent, it is actually in the far right corner and is very dark with no decent outdoor space to be outside, we were comfortable, but didn't like that it's like a walled in compound. The other units have full timers and one of them seemed to think he owned the place, demanding that our kids not use the pool past 6:30pm because of the splashing noise. Other neighbors have kids and dogs and we're very cool to be around but be prepared to share a compound with others. You will need a car to get anywhere here, unless you're only walking to beach which is very close. There is another unit for rent in the front which has nice outdoor area with sunshine and light, wish we would have known about that. We won't be staying here again because of the awkward shared space, huge concrete walls which makes it dark and no outdoor space to enjoy Costa Rica weather. If you like the shade this spot is perfect however. The owner and managers were AWESOME to deal with and we're very helpful. And the value of cost to space is a good deal. Pura vida!
A Perfect Months Vacation!
My husband and I and our 4 young children just returned from a month in this beautiful condo and are already missing it!
The condo makes excellent use of space and accommodated our family so well- everyone had plenty of space and we felt so comfortable. The beds and linens were really great and my husband is very picky with that kind of thing. Comfy couches, great kitchen (could use a few larger pots and pans), good water to drink, ice maker, blender, coffee maker, washer and dryer worked great (should have brought 1/2 the amount of clothes, only wore bathing suits!), and plenty of towels and beach towels. A/c worked great and was quiet too. Overall, a really comfortable and well equipped house that we hope to come back to next year.
The only problem we had was that their was a strong mildew smell upon arrival but I'm guessing the house was closed up before we arrived maybe. We put some baking soda in bowls throughout the house and picked up a few candles and soon it was just fine.
Very short walk to 2 of the most beautiful beaches in Guanacaste. You need a car and we were happy to have one bc this location is super easy to hit a ton of cool places- we went all over but loved grande the best.
We cooked a bunch of meals in (thanks to the new Wilmart grocery store) but loved Seven bbque night, Huerto pizza, Ripjack Inn and popping over to tamarindo for a fun meal out too.
Owner, Bob, was great to deal with and so was the property management group.
Don't hesitate to stay here- it was perfect! Counting down the days until we can come back.
Hi Kelly, Thank you very much for your gracious comments. We are very pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us. We hope you will come back next year. Bob
Villa Orquideas was our home base for a 2 week Xmas vacation for our family. It was impeccably clean, high quality linens, super confortable beds and sofas, ample kitchen linens, beach towels, shower towels, paper/cleaning necessities. Kitchen with full appliances, well stocked, a few minor items missing upon arrival, replaced the very next day by condo manager. Many different areas within the house and grounds allowing common time (large dinning room table/ open kitchen living area) as well as private time (2 different living rooms on 2 floors, and several terrasses). 5 homes nestled around a common pool, all tenants during our stay quiet, curteous and pleasant. NO other neighbours. Very short walk to the beach; ocean view through the trees as soon as you walk out of the property grounds to the left. Most amazing beach, both surfable and swimmable ! Another beach to the right, a few minutes walk, TOTALLY private even through Xmas and New Years. Property owner super helpful and accomodating.
Hi Nicole, Thank you very much for your nice review. We hope you'll be back for Christmas and New Year's next year. It's a great time of year to be in Costa Rica. We usually go over Thanksgiving. Bob
My wife and spent 2 outstanding weeks here. The condo was just like home, had everything we needed and the ice maker was used a lot. Lots of room and very peaceful. Will definitely stay here again, looking now at next year. Had only one issue with the internet and after contacting Rita, they were out and had it fixed within 2 hours, very impressed with the service.
We were only woken up two morning by the howler monkeys, they sound like dogs howling, its loud. The walk to the beach is really 2 1/2 minutes about 250 meters, closer than some of the resorts we have been at. We rented a car and visited 7 different beaches in the area, so this condo is very well situated for traveling around. There is some excellent restaurants in the area, El Hurto has outstanding pizza and the Café del Pueblo has a Mahi Mahi in shrimp sauce that is to die for.

My wife and I honeymooned here and I must say the Villa and staff were simply amazing. We have traveled to this part of Costa Rica a few times before but this was the best trip and vacation rental we have stayed in by far. The Villa is in a great location, just a short walk to the beach and has everything one could possibly need and much more. I just can't say enough good things about the place, we will be back next year without a doubt. Pura Vida!
Our family (me, my husband, and our 10 year old daughter) thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Villa Costa Grande #3! It was the most private of the five villas in the complex...though it really didn't matter because it was the off-season and a few of the other villas were empty anyway. The villa was very comfortable, clean, and nicely appointed, and the pool was wonderful too.
The beach access was just across the street - an easy 3-4 minute walk, even when carrying surfboards. We saw iguanas, lizards, land crabs and birds all along the walk, which was really fun.
The villas are located in a less populated area of town - which we liked. But everything was very accessible; we walked or rode bikes to restaurants, surf shops, and the market. So the villa is not "isolated", it's just not right in the heart of the small town. (We only rented a car the day we drove inland to do a full day excursion.)
Our only real complaint is that the gate into the complex had a tricky lock and was a hassle every time we came and went. Also, would have appreciated salt & pepper and coffee filters upon arrival, but those are such little things - almost not even worth mentioning. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful villa and would certainly recommend it to others!
Thank you for a wonderful first visit to Costa Rica. We hope to return one day!
Thank you for your comments and I am very glad you and your family enjoyed yourselves. We hope you come back next year. I'm sure your daughter wouldn't mind.
