A beautiful renovated barn with lots of amenities in a great location. Wish the fireplace was working during the nor Easter and the lighting was brighter but really all and all it was really a great find and would love to book it again

The barn was such a cool place on the grounds of a beautiful historical home. It was clean and very cutely decorated. Plenty of space for the 4 of us. I was a little nervous about the commute to downtown Charleston as we had a few days and evenings that we planned to spend there but it wasn’t bad at all. Very central to everything and quiet on the property.

Great place to stay when visiting Charleston!

Our stay was so comfortable—we met our daughter for a little getaway and had such a great time. We loved the historic design touches and the welcoming living room. The gardens were such a beautiful surprise, and you really felt far from the city despite being minutes from downtown. The communication with the host was quick, and every room was very clean. Would definitely recommend to friends!

The Barn was wonderful! The kitchen had all we needed for our quick stay. The decor was unique and created a great atmosphere. The perfect place for visiting Summersville!

The Barn

We had a wonderful experience at The Barn. In the area for a graduation and could not have stayed at a better place. Linda and Nicole (and Matthew) were very responsive and a pleasure to work with. The barn is as advertised and better. It is beautifully decorated and close to downtown. We hope to stay again.

Really Unique and Great Place To Stay

Great location. The updates to this converted barn are amazing. The barn had everything we needed for our stay and was very clean. We ran into one of the owners who was very friendly. The downtown area is within walking distance and had a number of restaurants. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it.

Great hosts, great location, beautiful grounds.

The Haybarn is situated in the beautiful, serene gardens on the property of the Linwood Inn, which is just a short walk from downtown Summerville. This unique property was a wonderful place for us to stay for four months. The owners, Linda and Peter, along with their friendly cat (Earl Grey), always made us feel welcome!

We travel a ton so for my husband to say multiple times that we’ll be back says a lot. The Barn is such a cool a different place to stay. It has a great layout and was obviously thoughtfully done. The neighborhood and surrounding areas were beautiful. Check in and communication were easy. Definitely as described and then some!We will be back to stay!

Beautiful property & location

The barn cottage is as advertised. The host was very responsive. We had one small plumbing issue and they took care of it right away. Proximity to downtown is great! Would stay here again!

We stayed for a week in one of the cottages here to attend a wedding. My husband and I, plus my parents, all fit very comfortably in the accommodations. We loved that it had a washer and dryer and a spacious living room to spend time together. I gave it 4 stars in some areas due to us being an interracial family and the listing lacking mention of the historical significance of the property and the choice of decor. The entire house was decorated with images of confederate soldiers, slaves, etc. We made the best of it but we would have preferred to know this in advance. Images of plantation owners hung above our bed, for example. Other than this, the home fit our needs for the duration of our stay and communication with the property was quick and kind.

I am pleased that this family found our Hay Barn suitable and rated it a 5. I am broken hearted that they mistook any decor to reflect the dreadful period of slavery in our nation. There is not one item in the Hay Barn which reflects that reprehensible era. The restored Hay barn has been decorated with three English hunting prints with riders in red or black coats, a painting of our home in NJ, a photo of my brother with his award winning pig in England, and three photos of my Pennsylvanian great aunts whose loved ones fought and died to free slaves. There is no picture of slave owners, soldiers or slaves. Not one! Any suggestion that there is or were is fraudulent and an intentional misrepresentation. It is slander. And for VRBO to allow this intentional misrepresentation to stand makes it complicit with this misrepresentation. Born in Pennsylvania, I worked tirelessly to integrate schools in CA in the early 70’s. My husband instigated the concept of the International African American Museum and we are founding members. While I am grieved that these folks suffered due to their mistaken belief that anything in the Hay Barn could reflect that despicable period, I am also concerned that their public response on VRBO casts aspersions on me, my family and our business. I want to believe it was their mistake and not a purposeful lie to defame. Our advertising does not reflect that historic period because our property does not!

Good location

The Barn is a nice place to stay except that inside it is quite dark. The online pictures are deceiving. Be aware that the upstairs bathroom is very small. Also, the upstairs bedroom could use a full length mirror. ( There are two downstairs.)Otherwise, the cottage is clean and well equipped for a short stay.

I’ll pass along the request for a full length mirror upstairs. We’re working on it! So glad you loved the cottage and Linwood. It’s a special spot :)

Peter and Linda have lived at Linwood for nearly 40 years. During that time they have restored, renovated and restructured the elegant mansion and the numerous out-buildings which are situated on the nearly 2 acre, historic estate. The Barn, Bungalow, 1920's Guest House are each unique in architecture but all accommodate four guests with two bedrooms and two baths, kitchens, laundries and lots of lovely living spaces. Some of our guests come for three months of delightful, Carolina winter, others for summer vacations or work related stays. We love our guests. Hospitality is our heart.

The Barn is a carefully renovated, architecturally significant building, on the historic Linwood estate. Not only is it extremely comfortable due to a complete restructuring, it is loads of fun. Be sure to see the many photos on our website at Linwood B&B. The beautiful property was the home of the Magnolia Plantation owner, Julia Drayton Hastie. The main house, quintessentially Southern Victorian, was built in 1883. The nearly 2 acres of award winning gardens are also of historic interest. Private tours for guests can be arranged.
