Ocean Dunes is a condo complex with the feel of a private club. Vacationers here have access to a large private indoor recreation center w/ pool, sauna, exercise room and gathering area as well as extensive outdoor facilities such as tennis and basketball courts, three outdoor pools and even shuffleboard. The Ocean Dunes resort complex takes great pride in maintaining its appearance and its amenities as well as its half mile of private beach.

Our condo is located directly across the street from the ocean front units on what is known as the garden side. Our part of the complex features twisted live oak trees that shade our balconies in the rear while our condo fronts onto a nicely landscaped in-ground pool with a gazebo and grills for picnicking as well as comfortable deck chairs placed around the fenced-in pool. Directly across the street is our private access to the beach (with shower) which we reach by following the path through our oaks. As you enter the Ocean Dunes area you leave the hustle and bustle of the public beach behind. Ocean Dunes is located at the tip of Pleasure Island, and behind our complex and to our south side is the Fort Fisher State Park with extensive grounds of its own, its own beach area and a well-thought out museum. Beyond that is the North Carolina Aquarium and beyond that is the end of the island where you can catch the ferry for Southport, a fun 30 minute ocean ride to this old historic city with its farmer’s and artisan market on Wednesdays, antique and craft shops as well as several restaurants on their dock. When you leave our complex and head north instead, you find the restaurants and board walk for our island and its many evening activities including outdoor concerts and movies.

We love to just sit out on our deck and enjoy the peace of our complex or put on our walking shoes and walk along the beach or the half mile to the state park with its own trails and beach. When we are looking for a change of pace, we leave the island and either go to Southport and or take the River Road to Wilmington (about a 20 minute drive through the country) where we shop, eat at one of our favorite restaurants, take in a play, or visit one of the museums there such as the USS North Carolina. Two major malls are also located off the island at about 10 miles from our condo in the other direction, and the route to them is lined with a wide variety of restaurants and specialty shops.

Our sunny 3 bedroom corner condo is located in a newly constructed building with complete handicap accessibility including an elevator. We hope to retire here and have furnished it as our second home. We welcome guests who will tread lightly and treat our property as if it were their own. Even though we are located beyond the hustle and bustle of any busy downtown area, we are just a short drive away from fine restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets, Wal-Mart and Lowe’s! Fish lovers will find both excellent fresh fish right off the boat as well as the opportunity to venture out from the Carolina Beach dock into the Atlantic Ocean for an angling adventure.

Our family always shared a large beach house with John's extended family every summer that our children were growng up, and when we began to think about retiring, we knew this was the place for us! Why John Virgint chose Southern Coast

We chose our condo because of its location. Ocean Dunes stands out as a quiet, upscale and family friendly place with a larger number of amenities than any of the other area complexes.

It is also much newer, as our building was just rebuilt in 2008. It is well-maintained and its extensive indoor facilities make it a good year-round place for people like us who spend time here during the winter school vacations as well as during the summer. We have very young nieces who live near-by, and they love to come swimming in the pool out front or indoors when it's off-sseason. When we want a change of pace from the beach, we can go to downtown Wilmington and eat at one of the restaurants on its boardwalk or shop or go to a nightspot. Alternatively, we can take the ferry to Soutport. And if you like history, there is a lot to explore. Wilmington was the primary port of the Confederacy during the Civil War, the boyhood home of President Woodrow Wilson and the birthplace of famous sons newsman David Brinkley and athlete Michael Jordan. Our friends always want to go through the World War 11 battleship the USS North Carolina or take a river cruise up and down the Cape Fear River from downtown Wilmington. When our friends come to visit us, they run out of time before we run out of adventures for them!

Our visitors have access to a large private indoor recreation center w/ pool, sauna, exercise room and gathering area as well as to extensive outdoor facilities such as tennis and basketball courts, three outdoor pools and even shuffleboard. The Ocean Dunes resort complex takes great pride in maintaining its appearance and its amenities as well as its half mile of private beach. And we are steps away from a state national park, which gives us a quiet, natural atmosphere free from the traffic and noise of many other area locations.

The entire process was simple. The owner was very responsive and provided detailed information. The condo was just as described, but better. Safe area, plenty of room, close to beach, pool, tennis, indoor pool, etc. the front door even had a screen door which allowed me to see the kids while they swam. The kitchen area was stocked with all you need. We didn't cook, but there would have been everything necessary. It was important to me to have a safe place where we would have zero smoke or pets as my son has severe allergies. It was perfect. Parking directly underneath made it easy to get in and out.the washer and dryer right in the condo was a huge benefit. It was our first visit to Kure. We will be back. Thanks.

Perfect Getaway

Our experience with booking and staying at John and Teresa's condo was great from start to finish. John was very quick to respond and provided a lot of useful and thoughtful information prior to our stay. The condo was clean, well stocked and the keyless entry made going and coming very easy. The location was perfect for us as we wanted to visit Ft. Fisher and the aquarium one day and head to Wilmington to visit the battleship another. The beach near the condo is great for shell hunting and the moss covered rocks at the edge of the water are beautiful. The rec center and pools are really nice and close to the condo as well. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again in the future

Wonderful Girls' Trip

Everything was great! The house was perfect for us. It was stocked up with everything we needed to make dinner right there in the condo. The key less entry was so convenient! John was more than helpful in making sure we were all ready for a nice relaxing weekend. He responded quickly to any and all emails. I wasn't sure about renting a condo in Kure Beach considering I have never been there but we are all so glad that we did. I highly recommend this condo!

Another Great Stay in 2016 at Live Oaks

We are now returning guests to this condo in Kure Beach. The value and accommodations were again perfect for our family spring break. First and foremost the communication and customer service from the owners was outstanding. Again this year we arrived to a freshly cleaned home. I also recommend using his housekeeping service so you don't have to worry about sheets or towels. The beach decor of the home adds even more to the feeling of being on vacation. We ate out mostly but for a couple days took advantage of the local ingredients and cooked in the condo. It had all the cookware we needed. The accommodations are similar to a hotel but with more space and value for the money. He has great restaurant recommendations and the home even provided information about the places around to visit. The deposit was refunded as soon as he could verify every thing was in order, ours was processed the very next day. Overall, our second trip was even better than the first. Not only would I return again, I would recommend to family and friends. Staying at this home added to a relaxing and fun family vacation.

LiveOaks poolside condo

This condo was awesome! Three bedrooms and two baths accommodated our family perfectly! Loved the large deck area that was shaded with trees. Easy access to outdoor pool, indoor pool, and the beach (even though you do have to cross the street...it is still close). Very family oriented area...very quiet at night ;-)
