About Property Manager
My husband and I have been married for 31 years and are both retired (mobile electronics and RN respectively). We live 3 months in our home in Costa Rica and 9 month in Massachusetts, USA. We have three children and seven grandchildren. We enjoy the local culture and tranquility of Playa Tambor and love to watch the wildlife which includes many species of birds such as Scarlet Macaws and Tucans, as well as, iguanas, howler monkeys, and kuwati mundis. We get together with our other "beach friends" often enjoying bonfires on the beach.
Property Manager purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Property Manager chose Tambor Beach
We decided to build our home in Tambor because of the exquisite beauty and tranquility of the area. We were looking for a non-touristy setting where we could enjoy the local culture of the Costa Rican people while at the same time having the advantages of nearby touristy areas in terms of available activities.
What makes this Villa unique
Peaceful atmosphere; total privacy afforded by the property; friendships with native Costa Rican families and other friends who live part time in the area; awesome fishing; 5 mile walking beach; sandy beach immediately in front of the property with shade trees; 10 meter x 10 meter private swimming pool; boating, horseback riding and quadricycle rentals delivered to the property; local shopping, dining and clubs all in walking distance.

Great base for exploring the southern Nicoya Peninsula
We stayed here for 12 nights with our 1 and 3 year old sons. It's a lovely, spacious house with beautiful tropical gardens and views. The pool is wonderful. We travelled about Costa Rica and there aren't many houses like this, a real gem. There's not a lot to do in Tambor itself - just chill out, go swimming etc - but there's loads of day trips from here: Tortuga Island, boat trips through the estuary, Curu National Park, Montezuma, Santa Teresa (and that whole stretch of coastline). You need a 4WD if you're going to venture out to those places. The house felt safe, private and well looked after. The only downside was the neighbour's dogs, which barked intermittently day and night. Take ear plugs and keep the windows shut at night. The owners were great at communicating and accommodating our requests, and the property manager, Cori, was lovely - helpful, kind and really friendly.
Our family loved the stay at this villa! It was so nice having the pool for the kids to play in. They would stay there for hours at a time. My oldest daughter and her boyfriend also enjoyed going down the path a bit to where the restaurants were. New Years weekend there were so many people, it was so fun for everbody. The wifi worked just fine for everyone. There was wild life around us. We say parrots, iguanas, lizards and praying mantises. The was beach was calm and shallow making it safe for the kids. We went sufing at Montezuma and Santa Tereza when we wanted more waves. Guru park was nearby as well and we enjoyed that. The area was nice and quiet. The villa itself was beautiful. So many rooms and bathrooms for everyone to share. Living in this villa was paradise.
A great escape
This is a beautiful property, ideally located in wonderful Tambor. Walk out one door and you are on the beach, walk out the other and you can sit pool side in the awesome courtyard. Would recommend Tambor for anyone wanting to the enjoy the peaceful beauty of Costa Rica without a rush of tourists. This is a property we return to. Don't miss the turtle project down the road!
I would highly recommend this home on the beach in Tambor. Loved the private pool and quiet part of town. Close to Montezuma beaches without staying in a motel or in a unit on the golf course.
Terrific vacation at a great location!
The property was beautifully maintained and we made good use of the pool and outdoor shower, the outdoor terrace and the beach. Given that we were 5 adults it was good to see that there was sufficient indoor and outdoor furniture for us all. The location was convenient for short drives to Montezuma, Cobano and Santa Teresa Beach. Also only a short 5 minute walk into Tambor for groceries or fresh seafood. The local pizza place was great as was the steak house restaurant just up the street on the main road. While not essential it turns out the property did also have wi-fi and it was nice to be able to listen to music while we prepared dinner, relaxed beside the pool or in the cool shade of the terrace! The property manager was always available and helpful with local recommendations and the daily light housekeeping service was great. We had a terrific vacation at a great location.
Like staying at one's own private 5-star resort!
It surprises me that there are not loads of excellent reviews for this property. However, this is a fairly new property.
I highly recommend this beach home to anyone thinking of visiting the Nacoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. It is only steps away from the beach in Tambor Bay. The beach is a few kilometers of nice soft sand and the water is very calm and pleasant to swim in. At different tide levels you can get some larger waves making it quite fun.
The house is gorgeous, with high quality, hardwood woodwork, and ceramic tiles throughout. The kitchen is very nice. All three bedrooms are comfortably large enough. The deck and balcony are perfect for sitting and relaxing with a cool breeze and the view of the bay right there.
The property has a large, well-tended garden to either side of the house. The garden is beautiful with a wide variety of trees, flowers, and other plants. There are a few iguanas 'playing' in the grass and occasionally a troop of howler monkeys will pass through.
The pool is crystal clear and a perfect temperature for the climate, not too warm and not too cool. It is large and deep enough to swim in, and great for just sitting and cooling off. The property has well located outdoor showers to wash off sand and salt water so it is easy to come in from the beach and clean off to keep the house & pool clean & comfortable.
There are several nice restaurants both in the town of Tambor and nearby at the Tango Mar resort as well as in other towns such as Montezuma and Mal Pais. We were there after the main tourist season, so there was no problem getting into the resort restaurants. I don't know what their policy is during high season.
Speaking of going in the off season, we were there the second full week of June. This is the rainy season, which is not so bad. Most days were clear/partly-cloudy into the early afternoon, with an hour or two of rain, followed by a clear evening. The rain actually helps keep the mosquitos down so it was little different than what we get in Colorado in the way of bugs. Note however, that there is usually a week-long monsoon around the end of May and another towards the end of July. The coolest thing about being there in the off-season was that there were no crowds. Most days we had the beach completely to ourselves.
The local people are very nice and helpful. The property manager was very helpful in arranging activities and the maid service was top quality. I just can't say enough about this place.
Sport fishing, boating tours, diving, horseback riding, ATV tours, kayaking, hiking and birding are available locally. There are two nature reserves within twenty miles which can be reached by bus or taxi.
