My family have moved to Grosse Ile, MI from California more than five years ago. We love the seasonal changes and all the beautiful scenery we find here. We hope our guests will love this unique water front cottage as much as we do.
Andy purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Andy chose Grosse Ile Township
Although we live in a larger home on the island, but we love this little cottage for its unique setting with large open yard all around and a very private fishing dock tucked in a small bay all of its own.
What makes this Cottage unique

Highlight of the trip!
Let’s face it...Working 7 days a week for 14 hours a day all the way across the other side of the Country isn’t fun for anyone but this beautiful cottage gave us a respite every evening from our day. It’s a very welcoming place that becomes home quickly. We stayed here for two months and enjoyed every evening watching the sun set across the river, the deer bedded down in the front yard every morning, and our little “black squirrel” that we later found out was a muskrat running across the bridge every day when we got home. The job was excruciatingly horrible and I will not return for work but I have thought about coming back to the area just to stay in this cottage again with my fiancée. We never met the owners as they were in California at the time but the caretaker; James, who just happens to live next door is one of the nicest most personable guy you could meet. He was always busy doing something around the pace but never too busy to stop and talk for a while, kinda like a next door neighbor would back home in Texas. He’s an encyclopedia of all the best places to go for anything and more than happy to share the info. The owners representative; Ms. Joann, would text about twice a week just to make sure that all was going well and if we needed anything. The Ile is safe, secluded, and tranquil. The people are extremely friendly. And if you get the chance, go to Lloyd’s Bar and Grill. The place has been open for 80+ years and you will be greeted by one of the owners, served some great food, and feel like your along friends with the customers and staff. If you do go, tell Ms. Tammy that the big Cowboy from Texas says “Howdy”!
The cottage was okay
We enjoyed our stay but there were a few things that the website said that wasn’t true. We were told there would be canoes and kayaks but none of them could be used. They said there was a charcoal grill for guests use but when we got there they told us it would cost us 20$ to use it. I did mention to them that it said we could use the grill and didn’t mention about a cost to use it so she finally said ok use it. The website mentioned bikes for guest use but they were also broke but the owner, Andy was kind enough to come and fix the tandem bike so at least we had that for the kids to use. Other than that the place was fairly clean. I wish we would have had a boat because it was hard to find a place to fish publicly. There was a lot of private docks so if you don’t have a boat there’s not much room for fishing.
We had a great time!
Very clean and cozy home with great views! Loved the wildlife and access to the water; we had a great time with our kayaks! Andy and Joann were very sweet and generous. They were there for check in and check out, and gave us privacy the rest of the stay. Would definitely come again.
Detroit River Fishing Vacation
This cottage was a perfect stay for 4 Fisherman. The accommodations were just perfect ! Our only suggestions would be to 1. Clear up/Trim Trees across bridge for better river viewing, 2. Cover or remove the old metal posts in the water at the small boat deck facing river, 3. Have the small channel and cove dredged and power run to the small bridge. This would bring in more vacationers with boats that require batteries to be charged. Running extension cords from the deck to the boats, causes a lot of drop in ampere and batteries did not get full charge. Other than that we truly enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back next year !
Hi Bradley, thank you for your suggestions. I'm glad that you have enjoyed your stay with us. Dredged is going to be a very big challenge for us but others could be a possibility.
is there anything that I miss that warrant a 3stars?
Great location, nice comfortable cottage .
We had a great stay ! Cottage perfect for 4 adults.
Cute cottage on the water
Very nicely kept house that is on the water. What I would say is if you are going in winter, you may want to consider 4wheel drive. Driveway is long and the road was plowed later in the day. Beautiful area, quiet!
Lake Erie Metropark is just 8 miles south of the property where there is long stretches of lake front picnic area.
The Henry Ford museum and Greenville village in Dearborn is also a popular attraction and we highly recommend a visit.
