About Mrs Sonia

Hallo everyone! My name is SONIA and I am from Lucca. I run my Lucca Holiday Rentals company that offers exceptional apartments in the heart of Lucca. My goal is to help you fall in love with Lucca – to discover, explore, taste and savor new sights and experiences in this incredible city.

My company began almost 10 years ago when I started to rent my family villa after my parents moved to the mountains when they got retired. I spent there my entire childhood and I grew up there in deep contact with the nature and the history. My father thaught me everything about the birds and the antique trees and flowers of the villa and the smell of the sizzling pans used to wake me up each Sunday morning after my mum started to cook! I was fascinated by her when she was telling me the history of the villa in the past century. I thought this kind of feelings are too precious to let them go so then I had the idea to share my love of Lucca and “la dolce Vita” by finding beautiful apartments , villas and farmhouses in my favorite Lucca neighborhoods among my family members properties. Lucca Holiday Rentals started out as a boutique family company and now there are over 15 people working together. We are a friendly and enthusiastic team who will assist you every step of the way, from your first enquiry to your arrival in Lucca.

Mrs Sonia purchased this apartment in 2012

Well located, but somewhat noisy apartment

  • 4 of 5

The apartment was located right off Piazza San Giovanni, right next to the Piazza Napoleone, a quick 10 minute walk to the train station and right by Porta San Pietro. So the location was excellent.

We were there during the Lucca Summer Festival (a coincidence). The music was great, however, the windows and shutters were of no effect in trying to shut out the noise. They basically did nothing. But even if you are staying when there is no festival, be aware that it seems to be a popular corridor for street cleaning machines to go down in the early morning (6:30-7:30AM) over and over and over. They were amazingly loud. Like a jet airplane landing outside your window. So we unfortunately got hit on both ends, music until 1AM minimum, then the breakdown of the temporary barriers, then 5-6 hours later, cleaning of the streets.

The apartment itself was spacious and the beds were good. I'm not sure if the ad for the apartment was updated, but there are only two bikes, not four (2 were stolen), and those two were in poor shape, so we ended up renting bikes instead to bike the city/walls instead (3 Euro/bike/hour). Make sure to ask Mrs. Sonia for extra towels if you stay.

If we were to travel to Lucca again, I would probably choose a more out of the way apartment to get away from the noise, but during the day it was fun to look out and see all the people going by and you can't beat the location, esp. if you will train around to Florence and such.

Perfect location and comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

Loved, loved, loved the location of this property. We enjoyed opening the windows and listening to people walk by talking in many different languages. It is literally a half block from many restaurants and shops and less than 10 minute walk to bus and train station. The layout was great to give family of four some space.

Pros:

- Excellent location

- Comfortable beds

- Great AC when needed

- Old building kept cool even without AC on very hot days

- Functional kitchen

- Good bathrooms

- Washing machine

- Lovely historic place

Cons:

- The sofa is no longer comfortable for sitting (we didn't use it for sleeping).

  • 5 of 5

Sonia was waiting for us and showed us everything we needed to know. The apartment is is a brilliant location and is in perfect condition. Everything a family needs, including some bikes. I can't wait to stay there again, the family loved it and we would easily recommend it to all our friends and family.

excellent and thoughtful service by the owners

  • 5 of 5

Lucca is a true jewel in Tuscany's crown, and, what's more, very few people seem to know about it. This means that while the queue for Firenze's Duomo is already 3 hours long at 9.30, Lucca's streets are almost deserted by that time of day. After a few days, the neighborhood baker knows you by name (almost).

Deemed "worth the journey" by the Green Michelin, this city has no Michelangelos, no Tintorettos or other masterpieces. Instead, it offers one of the most unspoilt 15-17th century cityscapes in Tuscany; tourist buses and their occupants are blissfully absent.

In the middle of this, adjacent to the main shopping street, is the apartment, where we spent 10 happy days before and after my birthday in August 2015. Its location, its square views, and excellent amenities - 2 large baths, wonderful kitchen, spaceful bedrooms and tastfully appointed living room - makes I this apartment a wonderful, relaxed base of operations in one of the quieter corners of Tuscany (with Pisa a 20-minute drive, and Firenze just 35 minutes away).

Highly recommended, not in the least because of the excellent and thoughtful service by the owners. They paid great attention to all our needs in a very professional and caring way. Thank you!

Wonderful apartment

  • 5 of 5

Our family have just returned from another wonderful month in beautiful Lucca. We stayed at the Opera Music apartment. What a lovely comfortable clean and tidy apartment it is. It truly feels like home away from home. Sonia is such a wonderful host and always makes us feel so welcome. Sonia makes the whole booking process so easy which takes away all the stress. I only wish New Zealand was a lot closer so we could go more often. I actually bawled my eyes out when we left and feel homesick for Lucca. We have made some lovely life long friends there and have had the pleasure of going to opera concerts at the Oratorio put on our friends. Lucca is a magical town and has everything you could wish for from wonderful restaurants, people, and music. I can't wait to get back. This time we were there for a family reunion with our family who live all over the world. It was magical. Also our friends stayed in an apartment of Sonia's and were so thrilled with it. I can't wait to go back. Thank you Sonia and Bernadetta and the lovely ladies who made our apartment spotless and put on lovely crisp white sheets. See you as soon as possible and we will have that drink Sonia.

THIRD TIME WITH SAME HOSTS

  • 5 of 5

We travel to Italy every summer and are based in Lucca with my family every Christmas. Given the numerous holiday apartments I have rented over the years, Sonia's service, attention to detail, consideration of her clients' individual needs, and the quality of her properties surpass any other agency and private owner I have used. Lucca is an enchanting family destination, and both the StGiovanni and Opera apartments that I used were just perfect for our mixed family group, with ample space in the beautiful living rooms and modern kitchens for time together, yet private quiet bedrooms and nice newly renovated bathroooms. The location is absolutely perfect, particularly if you are bringing a car, and both Benedetta and Sonia were the kindest and most helpful hosts I've met in all my years traveling to Italy. Thank you, as always, Sonia!

Lucca, beautiful city, famous for its monumental 15th century fortified wall. But dig a little deeper and you find that its winding medieval streets actually follow the plan laid out by the Romans in 180BC. And before the Romans, Lucca was one of the major centres of Etruria, the ancient country of central Italy that more or less corresponds to modern Tuscany. Unsurprisingly then, Lucca is steeped in history. Your twelfth century building is just a small part of that. There are museums and churches, and the magnificent cathedral, the Duomo di San Martino, is the town’s finest Romanesque building, its impressive façade a triumph of sculpture, carving and inlay work – at just five minutes’ walk from the apartment. Modern delights include terrific restaurants, bars and shops, all within a few minutes’ walk. In Lucca’s winding streets, the pedestrian comes before the car, so you can move at your own pace. In fact wandering the streets is one of the great pleasures of the city.
