Why Debbie Ballard chose West Beach

Our family always enjoyed going to Kiawah Island for vacation - any time of the year!

Guestbook comments from the owner

(Copied from our Guest Book) Dear Ballards,We really enjoyed the beach house. It is awesome! You have a kitchen “to die for”. I have never stayed at the beach and had such a well equipped kitchen. It had everything we needed and then some. Thanks for letting us enjoy your wonderful home. This is our first time to Kiawah and we will be back! The StewartsGreenville, SC

Relaxing Retreat in Well Stocked, Clean, and Organized Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at this cottage! It was our first time to the area, and we fell in love! The cottage itself was very clean, well organized, and stocked. It had lots of extras that you would not normally find in a VRBO, including beach cart, chairs, umbrellas, games, tons of movies, books, spices, bags, etc. The owner, Debbie, was great to work with. Prior to departure, she mails out a packet, that lays out what's included, and a helpful packing list. The cottage is nestled in a lush area, and even though there are several units around, it felt quite private. We were skeptical if ocean could be heard, but we really did hear it on the screened in porch, which was so relaxing! One of our favorite things about the area was all the bike trails, and biking along the beach. The walk to the beach was longer than we anticipated. We were fine because we like to be active, but if you are hauling a lot of things, you may want to drive to & park at Straw Market, and go from there. We went for a family spring break, but I was already envisioning a girls getaway! We definitely hope to return to this cottage some day!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and we're so glad you enjoyed the cottage and the Island! So sorry that you did not know the walk to the beach is via Duneside, past the pool, toward the villas, which does make for a five - seven minute walk. (And a straight away route for pulling the beach cart with all the necessities)!

Wonderful cottage - will be back!

  • 5 of 5

My first trip to Kiawah and I am in love. The island is amazing and so private. We researched many properties and the main reason we chose Debbie's property was her quick, personal response to our questions about the cottage and the fantastic reviews. The cottage has everything you could possible need and clean! The dishes, flatware, cookware, appliances are all top notch. She had a wonderful selection of spices also. The linens were fabulous - high quality, not what you normally see in rentals. The fact that she had 6 beach chairs, 2 umbrellas, toys, boogie boards and the wonderful beach cart had us sold. No need to pack up all of that in your car - this cottage has it all. The mattresses were so comfy. We were worried about our 3 year old sleeping in the twin bedroom alone - but the bed was so comfortable she slept thru every night. She loved the fish art on the wall. And the "steering wheel" . We enjoyed renting bikes and riding the bike trails and to the beach. Honestly the beach is less than a 10 minute walk. And 3 minutes or less by bike. We had an issue with the ice maker not working - and Debbie and her husband brought us more than enough bags of ice to get us through the week. They were prompt with the issue and helped to resolve for us so that we were not inconvenienced. We ran out of gas on the grill and again - they were immediate to resolve the issue. We loved the porch - both the screened and outdoor. My husband and daughter loved the outdoor shower. Debbie had special soap in each bath - again a wonderful touch. Cleaning supplies galore should you need them. I always bring anti-bacterial wipes when renting, but she had them there and then some. The TV system - although tough to figure out at first (too many remotes) - was great. Once we figured it out - we were good to go. We liked the location of this cottage - because it was on the end. We noticed that most of the cottages, the decks were smack against each other. But this was a perfect location, more private. One minute walk to the lagoon to see "Wally" the gator. I enjoyed the wildlife and atmosphere so much here. Walking down to the inlet to find sand dollars at low tide - a must. West Beach is an ideal location. Close to Harris Teeter by car or about a 2 mile bike ride. The Kiawah Shop at The Straw market , right next to the cottages was great! We had breakfast at The Southern Kitchen - quite good. We will be calling on Debbie again in the future.

We loooooved this cottage! So organized, tidy, well-stocked, and awesome location!

  • 5 of 5

We go to South Carolina almost every spring break but this was our first trip to Kiawah and now can't WAIT to go back! This property was just PERFECT for our family. It was SO organized, SO tidy, and SO well-stocked! We've stayed in VRBO homes a few times a year for the past 10 years and this had to of been one of our faves! We had plenty of room and loved all the "extras": the kitchen had everything possible we could have needed, the washer/dryer right off the kitchen was better than my setup at home ;) and our kids LOVED the outdoor shower and lower lever "outside garage" they called it with beach toys, beach chairs, beach cart, grill, & tons of space for gear, bikes, etc!. Loved the little street we were on and our kids are pretty little but it was so quiet and safe we just left them outside to play and roam and ride bikes all on their own and we never once worried a bit about them!! I was spoiled with morning quiet times in the screened in porch, and afternoons on the deck chairs! We didn't realize HOW close the beach was (compared to years of staying in placing they SAY they are close to the beach) this was really awesome. The small neighborhood pool was chilly but totally fine given that it was only early April. A few of our favorites on the island were biking down to "our" beach at Pier 1, and then biking along the beach down to Beachwalker park for shell hunting and dolphin spotting (we missed them, but try at low tide). Night Heron Park was awesome- super fun playground and great nature facilities. My older boys go to go to the driving range with my husband across the street at Cougar Point (so close!). We LOVED being at the front of the island and being so close to Fresh Fields- awesome Harris Teeter and great shops and restaurants. I will say it was so cute and funny how everyone "hangs out" at Harris Teeter for breakfasts and lunches! I've never seen anyone hang out at a grocery store before, but it totally is the thing to do here and with picnic tables all set up, it became one of our favorite things to to do! We also loved driving over to Bohicket Marina at night to watch the sunsets, look at boats, and go out for ice cream. We never even made it to Charleston this year b/c we were having so much fun on Kiawah!

We will definitely be back!

  • 5 of 5

We have been traveling to different areas of South Carolina for about 10 years now, but this was our first time to Kiawah. I think we have finally found our favorite SC spot and this cottage was part of the reason. The area is absolutely gorgeous - spacious beach, well kept community pool and a beautiful nature trail that both the kids and adults in our group enjoyed. The house is so comfortable and has the all the amenities that a family at the beach could possible need. We hope to book with this owner again next summer and plan to pack to much less than we did this time. Many thanks to the owner for a wonderful vacation.
