Cool Retreat from the Heat
I arrived in Florence with a sprained ankle so mobility for the first half of my stay was limited. Being in a beautiful, comfortable (air-conditioned) apartment was a blessing. I was thrilled to discover that the highly-rated restaurant Baldovino and pastry shop Finisterrae were literally a hop from my front door.
Great location, comfortable apartment.
We were very happy with this apartment. It was a short walk to all the popular tourist sites. There were dozens of restaurants within a two minute walk. We did not spend much time there awake as we were out early and home late almost every day. We did enjoy viewing the pictures we took on the television using the Google Chromecast. I definitely recommend this apartment.
Thank you very much William for your comment.
I'm really happy that you were well in Florence in my apartment.
You have been a special guest.
Hope to see you again.
See you soon
Great location, clean & comfortable
We so enjoyed our two weeks in Florence & our stay in your comfortable, clean & well appointed appartment. We also really appreciated your friendly welcome, advice & suggestions & your help in securing a change of sheets & towels mid stay & a second key to cater for our particular needs. Thank you so much! 😊One suggestion for the appartment is to include an electric kettle. Also, the upstairs neighbours were sometimes very noisy at night. Overall, however, a very positive experience & the central location of your appartment makes it a highly recommended place to stay. Grazie mille e a presto, spero!
Nice week in Florence even with such a heat.
Magnificent apartment, very well located, at 1 minute from Sta. Croce church and 7 minutes to Piazza della Signoria. For us, the property provided us all the facilities we needed, specially the air conditionned. It was very clean and confortable as well as very quiet.
We recommend this proporty to spend a special week in Florence. It's in harmony with the beautiful and unique city of Florence.
Enjoy your stay.
Santa Croce apartment
OrThe apartment is newly remodeled in mostly IKEA decor. Very clean. Close to all of Firenze for walking on both sides of the Arno. The apartment is a walkup and very safe. There are good restaurants and shops nearby as is the old quarter with museums and architecture.
We were able to cook several meals as well. We recommend this location for convenience and cleanliness and safety.
Thanks for your good comments, but I don't understand the 3 stars. Maybe they are for the Ikea decor ? The only Ikea furniture is the kitchen and it is of a very good quality.
Anyway, I hope I'll have the opportunity to host you again in the future.
Outstanding apt, quiet but near all the important
Fantastic decor, kitchen and sleeping accommodations. Newly remodeled, clean and well maintained. My wife and I spent 2 weeks in this apt and it felt like home. Lorenzo was very attentive and accommodating. Ciao! and would recommend this property. We will be back to visit again.
The Santa Croce church is full of famous Florentine art and famous dead Florentines. The Basilica is the largest Franciscan church in the world, begun in 1294 by Gothic master Arnolfo di Cambio in order to rival the church of Santa Maria Novella. The church wasn't consecrated until 1442. Its most notable features are its sixteen chapels, many of them decorated with frescoes by Giotto and his pupils, and its tombs and cenotaphs. It is the burial place of some of the most illustrious Italians, such as Michelangelo Buonarroti, Niccolò Machiavelli, Enrico Fermi, Galileo Galilei, Ugo Foscolo, Guglielmo Marconi, Luigi Cherubini, Leon Battista Alberti, Vittorio Alfieri, Gioacchino Rossini, Lorenzo Ghiberti, thus it is known also as the Temple of the Italian Glories.
Every year in June, a field of sand is prepared in piazza Santa Croce for the annual Calcio Fiorentino (historic football) games. The game is fairly violent; boxing and wrestling is allowed and minor injuries are frequent.
Santa Croce is also the focal point of one of the most genuine neighborhoods left in the old center. If you want to feel like a city resident, stay here.
The streets around the Mercato di Sant'Ambrogio and Piazza de'Ciompi have an especially appealing, local feel.
The Mercato di Sant'Ambrogio is a typical fresh food market, decidedly more for locals than tourists. With stalls outdoors and indoors, any time of the year, it is a colorful place to get a taste of Florentine life as you mix with locals buying artichokes or fresh pasta, household items such as cheese graters, plants or cheap clothing. Open 8am-2pm Monday to Saturday.
Located not far from the Sant'Ambrogio market, the little Piazza de'Ciompi houses the flea market of Florence, open daily. The quiet little stalls sell all sorts of rumage-worthy things from antique postcards to lace to chandelier pieces. The last Sunday of the month found the flea market expanded, filling the entire piazza and surrounding streets – a definite must for any bargain hunter in search of something unique, vintage or collectable amongst the stalls of hats, magazines, books, trinkets, bags, clothes, jewelry and furniture. Open 9am-7pm Monday to Saturday.
The Santa Croce neighborhood also boasts some of the best restaurants and bars in the city. The most famous is Enoteca Pinchiorri, famous all around the world, one of the best (and maybe most expensive!) restaurant in Italy, at few steps from the apartment.
