There is quality and functionality throughout this well designed, custom, 3000 sq 4 BD, 2 finished attics, 2.5 BA home. Lots of windows let in the natural light and garden/pond views. Wide open accessible floor plan has high ceilings, gas fireplace and main floor master. Large deck for entertaining. Telecommute or retire in style on the west side of Guemes Island in a serene setting.
Guemes Island is part of San Juan Islands and about 60 minutes driving to Vancouver, BC (British Columbia), Canada.
Keywords: This luxury home has 4 bedrooms, 2 finished attics, 2.5 bath, nearly 3000 sq ft. It sits on a 4 acre of beautiful land surrounded by woods. Children love to play on the huge open front and back yard, so do deers and wild turkeys.
I am a cougar working at UW Dental school. We had an occasion to spend a few days on Guemes island with friends. We all fell in love with it. We decided to buy a vacation house together on the island and we did in a few months. It is an awesome decide we've ever made!
The Owner purchased this house in 2010
Our stay was amazing! Even with a house full, everyone was comfortable and had plenty of room. It had everything we needed and it is a beautiful spot.I put balloons on the mailbox to help people find the driveway. Everyone said they would stay there again.Thank you for your hospitality,
The photos are not quite what we found. The property is overgrown and the house has a very vacant feeling to it. I'm not sure if it has changed hands recently, but the previous reviews don't seem to reflect what we found. It's important to note that there is no wifi, cell phone reception was very spotty, and you'll be required to carry away your own garbage and recycling. The house smells like Chinese food, and it lacked a lot of the things I've come to expect in rentals-- a bar of soap in the bathrooms for example. It also has a strange setup upstairs with two empty bedrooms. Now, having said this, the manager was very easy to deal with and the house was clean. It could be a good option for a large group on the cheap, provided you bring extra beds. Overall, I would not stay here again, and it seems that the owners have done the minimum required to keep this listing up.
We were on Guemes for a family reunion and this was one of the 3 homes we rented. What a peaceful setting and a beautiful home! Plenty of space to accommodate all of us for evening meals a couple nights. We enjoyed the home and the island beauty very much!
I decided to gather 9 of my closest friends for a weekend getaway just outside the city. Heading up to Guemes island was a mixture of fun adventure and relaxing getaway. We were able to enjoy our time and below I'll provide the pros/cons and my tips for future vacationers.
The ferry was short, cheap, and travels across often. There was practically no noise, traffic, or other people around at all during our stay, the house is completely surrounded and feels very private. The house was very spacious and provided exactly what we needed for a short weekend away, including some board games and the garage entertainment (pool/ping pong) was greatly appreciated. The back deck is very spacious and it was very easy to accommodate everyone for relaxing and chatting in a large circle. The yard is also very spacious and can easily have multiple people running around at once.
Cons: (Most of these cons were a result of me and not the house)
There are only a few outdoor chairs, so bring some if you like to lounge. The ferry can only hold 20-22 cars at a time so get there a little early otherwise you may have to wait. There was no outdoor fire pit, which would have been really fun but again there was never one promised so I can't be upset about not having one. The propane tank was empty but we filled it at the local store and the home-owner reimbursed us, yay!
Do your research on the ferry schedule and get there 20-25 minutes early. Pack plenty of chairs and everything you'll need to enjoy they weekend (outdoor games, drinks, water, etc...). If you can't find the ping pong paddles look in the drawers by the garage sink... trust me... they are there! I recommend bringing flip flops or slippers since there is a lot of in and out of the back patio (lazy pro-tip). Bring fancy cooking utensils, the basics are there.
The house was amazing and we had a great time, enjoy yourself and do the 1.1 mile Guemes Mountain hike, it was beautiful.
Lovely spacious home in private wooded setting. There is beach access about 1/4 mile S on the quiet road by the house. "Mountain" with an easy 2mi hike is a short drive away. Awesome lawn and patio for grilling, bocce, frisbee, etc. Guemes has a single store, but if you need urban diversions, drive to the ferry and walk on. Downtown Anacortes is charming and easily walkable; our teenagers loved doing this.
Great location for crabbing, clamming and beach stone picking up.
This secluded island home exceeded all of our expectations from beginning to end. The homeowners made everything easy and were great to work with! We met several local residents in the ferry line who were happy to share their secret island hang outs with us. The large home is situated on a beautiful lot and has everything that you need for e relaxing getaway. We spent mornings watching deer moving around the property and afternoons exploring beaches and Deception Pass State Park.
Guemes island, which is part of San Juan Islands, is the best place for crabbing and agate hunting in the nation. Please visit our website for more information about activities.
