We are a family of 6. and love everything that Western North Carolina has to offer for wonderful family vacation.
Rona Percy purchased this cabin in 2012
We have been vacationing in Western North Carolina for years and feel in love with this property. We decided to built a cabin this year and share it with others.
Love everything the lake has to offer - the swimming, the boating, the fishing, the kayaking, the canoeing, the floating
Love the mountains - hiking, biking,
Love the local mountain towns with the healthy restaurants, funky coffee shops,
Love Asheville - the shopping, restaurants, atmosphere,
Love the white water rafting, the lazy river tubing,
Loved the gold mining (the kids did)
Haven't explored the horse back riding, but heard it's terrific
It was absolutely wonderful! I can't tell you how much fun we had. Your cabin is just the most happy place I think I've ever been too. I loved how light and bright it was and all the little decorating details were so nice. Loved the duck theme. The sunrises are to die for. The kids went nuts over building a fire and toasting s'mores every single evening. And it's close to so many adventures! We were non stop busy during the day- it was great coming back to the cozy cabin for some R & R. Thanks so much! Hope to stay there again!
Our family of six (kids ages 14,15,16 and 19) stayed at Sunali Cabin for 9 nights and 8 days. We drove 9.5 hrs from Ohio and arrived late. All directions and access to the cabin were clear and easily executed even in the dark. Woke up to the most amazing view that can only be hinted at from photos. The next 8 days went like this… Sat - Ziplining at NOC, Sun - Pontoon boat rental full day, Mon - Road bike cycling (Dad) from Cherokee to Top of Clingman's Dome Access Rd (Bucket list item) and afternoon swim in the local swimming hole with rope. Tues - Family hike on Appalachian Trail out and back from Clingman's Dome, Wed - Guided Ducky tour with Family at NOC, Thurs - Another full day on Pontoon boat with Tubing, Fri - Rest Day with exploring of neighborhood on foot, dinner and movie in Cherokee, Sat - Dad Cycling event Cherohala Challenge (113 mile ride with 10,000+ ft of climbing) out of Tellico Plains, TN while family had day trip to Ashville, Sun - Drive home.
Fontana Lake is a massive and hidden gem. We are not boaters, but quickly got comfortable with the pontoon boat and tubing with the kids. By day two of boating we were able to really relax and explore the 30-mile long lake and its many islands. Rope swings for jumping into the water are very popular and safe due to the rapid drop off in depth from the shore and our kids couldn't get enough of finding new rope sites and swinging away on them.
The home is well-maintained, has all amenities you would want, and the view is priceless. The only suggestion I would have is to add Wifi, though connectivity wasn't an issue since Verizon service worked very well. I had to upgrade my cellular data package twice to accommodate our iPhoned family...
We had one snafu with the A/C unit on Day 2, but it was fixed within two hours of a phone call to the owner. We were issued a 1/2 day refund without even asking for it!
Did I mention how private and secluded this cabin is? You don't have to be active to appreciate this locale. This is also the perfect spot to sit on the porch with a cold beverage or coffee and read 3 books while the scene below changes with the angle of the sun. Heaven on Earth...
5 Stars all around for the location, the property, value and working relationship with the owners. Would come back in a heartbeat.
Highly recommended destination for those seeking the solitude of the mountains. The property is situated near the top of a ridge with sunrise-facing views over Lake Fontana. The homes in the community are isolated from each other so the only sounds you'll hear are the birds and critters in the woods. Old logging/Jeep roads are nearby for quiet hikes around the community.
The house was perfect for our family of four plus a set of grandparents with my only regret being too short of a stay. Every amenity is there down to the Ingles store card to save you a few dollars on groceries (very considerate touch). Our two sons (age 10 and 6) absolutely loved the "log cabin" bunk bed room with the faux bear rug and moose trophy on the wall. Most enjoyable to them was the secret room up the hidden staircase. Glowing reviews for the clean, cozy master bed/bath, guest bed/bath, kitchen, deck/porch, etc. Again, just wish we had more time to enjoy the house.
Drive to Bryson City is easy (about 15 minutes) and once you've driven up the winding road inside the gate to the home, it's not that daunting. If you're looking for peace and quiet with sunrise vistas, this property is tough to beat!
Been coming up to Tsali for years to ride and hike with friends. This years group all agreed, Sunali simply is THE BEST!!! The build of this cabin with it's diverse use of reclaimed lumber, logs, pine and mountain laurel makes the inside a feast much as the outside view of clouds rising off Fontana. Rona was easy to deal with and obviously has great decorating skills. Many thanks.
We had an amazing time at Sunali Cabin. It was a great way to celebrate a milestone birthday and the house, the views, the nearby activities couldn't have been better. Our only complaint was that we had to leave.
The home was exactly as promised, and more. My husband kept saying "they thought of everything, everything." And since we left he has been saying, "I'd go back in a minute. Thank you for setting this up. What a great, great vacation." The only thing missing was our son who was already at Clemson but I will get him there next time. Our other kids from ages 20 down to 11 loved it there and didn't want to leave. The view was beautiful. We hung out in hammocks on the porch and had not only hummingbirds and a bunny visit every day, but also deer and turkey. We pried ourselves away from the home long enough to do two hikes, pontoon boating/tubing, and rafting. The home easily slept the 6 of us. There were lincoln logs, binoculars, t.v.'s, marshmallow skewers, two fireplaces, a hammock, a gas grill, wood, and everything from saran wrap to band aids, to cleaning supplies to plenty of cooking supplies. It was perfect. The home is fabulous and I felt like it was built for families with kids of all ages. If you want a secluded get-a-way but also want to spend time experiencing some adventures in the mountains don't hesitate to book Sunali.
Our family was looking for a quaint, mountain cabin to enjoy a quality, family-time vacation and Rona's cabin was IT! From the moment we stepped through the front door, we fell in love with Sunali cabin! The breakthtaking views of Fontana Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains from the entire back of the house are stunning. Our children 9yr & 7yr loved the cozy loft immediately. They couldn't believe their eyes when they saw a little trunk tucked in a corner and just like "magic" found HARRY POTTER dvds inside! We are a huge Harry Potter family and were delighted to find this gem in the loft! Another treat was waking up early each morning, building a fire in the gorgeous outdoor stone fireplace and enjoying our morning coffee while watching the sunrise greet the day in peaceful silence. It was therapeutic and a welcome change from our hectic lives. The cabin was very comfortable and had plenty of room. The exposed wood work was gorgeous; VERY CLEAN. The only minor glitches we came across were several burned out light bulbs (no problem) and some areas that may need a bit of sprucing up - quite a few spider webs/dusty corners mostly outside on porch/deck. ; )
Rona had amazing advice for us regarding activities that were age-appropriate for our kids and she was spot on! Our first day we spent at Deep Creek tubing and hiking to beautiful water falls. Because our area has had a lack of rain, the river was quite low which caused getting stuck in rocks and boulders numerous times but nothing a few tugs or wiggles couldn't solve and certainly didn't impact our great fun! Another day we rented a pontoon boat to go exploring around Fontana Lake. Almond Boat Rental was fantastic and about 4 minutes from Sunali! We tried our hand at fishing and tubing off the back of the boat - great fun! We packed lunch, snacks and drinks for a fun day on the boat. Another day we went mountain biking along the Ocanaluftee River Trail in Cherokee. It was perfect! A great trail for our 7yr old daughter who has never been mountain biking, exciting enough for our 9yr old son and safe and fun enough for mom and dad! We did the trail twice for a total of 6 miles! We then explored the Cherokee Indian Village and loved watching the demonstrations of pottery, weaving, weapon making and more. It was very educational yet fun!
We can't thank Rona enough for welcoming us into her home & allowing us to experience such a peaceful vacation with our children. We will definitely be back!
