About Rona Percy

We are a family of 6. and love everything that Western North Carolina has to offer for wonderful family vacation.

Rona Percy purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Rona Percy chose Smoky Mountains

We have been vacationing in Western North Carolina for years and feel in love with this property. We decided to built a cabin this year and share it with others.

What makes this cabin unique

Love everything the lake has to offer - the swimming, the boating, the fishing, the kayaking, the canoeing, the floating

Love the mountains - hiking, biking,

Love the local mountain towns with the healthy restaurants, funky coffee shops,

Love Asheville - the shopping, restaurants, atmosphere,

Love the white water rafting, the lazy river tubing,

Loved the gold mining (the kids did)

Haven't explored the horse back riding, but heard it's terrific

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was absolutely wonderful! I can't tell you how much fun we had. Your cabin is just the most happy place I think I've ever been too. I loved how light and bright it was and all the little decorating details were so nice. Loved the duck theme. The sunrises are to die for. The kids went nuts over building a fire and toasting s'mores every single evening. And it's close to so many adventures! We were non stop busy during the day- it was great coming back to the cozy cabin for some R & R. Thanks so much! Hope to stay there again!

The Perfect Getaway Vacation for an Active Family (Or Quiet Retreat)

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six (kids ages 14,15,16 and 19) stayed at Sunali Cabin for 9 nights and 8 days. We drove 9.5 hrs from Ohio and arrived late. All directions and access to the cabin were clear and easily executed even in the dark. Woke up to the most amazing view that can only be hinted at from photos. The next 8 days went like this… Sat - Ziplining at NOC, Sun - Pontoon boat rental full day, Mon - Road bike cycling (Dad) from Cherokee to Top of Clingman's Dome Access Rd (Bucket list item) and afternoon swim in the local swimming hole with rope. Tues - Family hike on Appalachian Trail out and back from Clingman's Dome, Wed - Guided Ducky tour with Family at NOC, Thurs - Another full day on Pontoon boat with Tubing, Fri - Rest Day with exploring of neighborhood on foot, dinner and movie in Cherokee, Sat - Dad Cycling event Cherohala Challenge (113 mile ride with 10,000+ ft of climbing) out of Tellico Plains, TN while family had day trip to Ashville, Sun - Drive home.

Fontana Lake is a massive and hidden gem. We are not boaters, but quickly got comfortable with the pontoon boat and tubing with the kids. By day two of boating we were able to really relax and explore the 30-mile long lake and its many islands. Rope swings for jumping into the water are very popular and safe due to the rapid drop off in depth from the shore and our kids couldn't get enough of finding new rope sites and swinging away on them.

The home is well-maintained, has all amenities you would want, and the view is priceless. The only suggestion I would have is to add Wifi, though connectivity wasn't an issue since Verizon service worked very well. I had to upgrade my cellular data package twice to accommodate our iPhoned family...

We had one snafu with the A/C unit on Day 2, but it was fixed within two hours of a phone call to the owner. We were issued a 1/2 day refund without even asking for it!

Did I mention how private and secluded this cabin is? You don't have to be active to appreciate this locale. This is also the perfect spot to sit on the porch with a cold beverage or coffee and read 3 books while the scene below changes with the angle of the sun. Heaven on Earth...

5 Stars all around for the location, the property, value and working relationship with the owners. Would come back in a heartbeat.

Our mountain home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We always enjoy Sunali. The house allows us to have family time in a beautiful, relaxing and comfortable environment and is close to the activities we like to do. We hiked, rented a pontoon boat, rafted, and rode horses. Since we have 5 kids it is useful to us that the home has 7 beds. This feature gives the kids a little space. We have too many people to eat out constantly, so we enjoy the fact that the kitchen is well equipped to handle our cooking. The owners respond to our questions and accommodate our needs right away. Comfy beds, wifi, t.v., views, super clean house and great location relative to the forests and mountains.

Stunning views! The house was perfect with all amenities and plenty of room. Awesome deck too

  • 5 of 5

The area has so much to offer! The kids loved the NOC-rafting and zip lining. The restaurant there was our favorite of all. The shops in Cherokee were great for a rainy day-the water falls are a must there too and the river through town is perfect for picnicking or wading in the water. Fontana lake was the best! The marina at Fontana Dam was very accommodating -worth paying a bit more-fishing and tubing. Bryson City is close and neat, but driving through the Smokies to reach our destination was tops!

Beautiful home in a central location with AMAZING views!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our 5 night stay in Sunali Cabin. We had a wonderful week in this beautiful, well apportioned home. Sunali Cabin is perfect for a family with children of all ages, for couples or girls/guys trip. The home is well stocked with all of the amenities one could ask for in a home. The kitchen is fully stocked, there is a washer & dryer indoors, a BBQ and multiple fireplaces. While the road to the cabin is a bit windy, the views are spectacular! Sunrise and Sunset are magical! A short drive from Asheville (1.25 hours), the location is convenient to the Nantahala Outdoor Center, Bryson City and Deep Creek. The owner, Rona, is a delight and easy to work with. If you are looking for a mountain getaway this is a great choice!! We look forward to visiting Sunali Cabin again in the future.
