About Ed and Sandy Hornyak

Sandy and I moved back to the San Diego area in 1991 after I retired from 21 years in the navy. Sandy retired from registered nursing about five years ago, and I retired two years ago after teaching first grade for fifteen years. So we are really, really, retired now and enjoying every minute of it! We like to travel and try to get away several times a year. We developed the travel bug during my last years in the navy since we were stationed in Rota, Spain for four years and then in the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal for almost five. But sometimes we just like to 'travel' to our beautiful condo by the ocean for a few days every once in awhile.

Ed and Sandy Hornyak purchased this condo in 1993

Why Ed and Sandy Hornyak chose Imperial Beach

We've always dreamed of owning property by the water so we jumped at the chance to buy this place. Imperial Beach is so much quieter than San Diego's other beaches and that's what we like most about it.

What makes this condo unique

We fell in love with the view of the beach and ocean from the living room area. Even though you are away from it all, everything in San Diego is within easy reach.

Great time at the beach

  • 5 of 5

Ed and Sandy's place is perfect. Great location to everything, quiet beach front, super clean and awesome places close by to eat. We stayed here to attend our sons graduation from Marine boot camp. It was a wonderful place for him to spend his first couple of nights back in the civilian world. We love Imperial beach- not crowded, clean and safe.

Owner's Response: We thank your son for his service and wish him a great career in the Marines. It makes us happy to be able to contribute in some way to such a memorable visit to San Diego.

Imperial Beach Wonder

  • 5 of 5

The property was great with regards to location and comfort. It was easy to travel to Seaworld and the USS Midway museum from the property. The property was mostly quiet. There weren't very many restaurants that were easily located although there were plenty of bars nearby if that is your choice. Overall, we enjoyed our time at the property and will consider returning in the future.

Clean & Comfy

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time relaxing in your condo. The views of the surfers and the crashing waves were great but the sunsets the best of all!

We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen which was well stocked with usable pans and utensils. The entire place was clean and comfortable. The little extras were wonderful: the fruit basket, the beach chairs, the beach towels...

The maintenance people taking care of the property were hard at work everyday cleaning the pool and keeping care of the plants etc. A very well maintained property.

Ed and Sandy make everything very easy for you with detailed information about the condo and the surrounding area.

Thanks so much, we had a great time!

Lovely and convenient beach front property

  • 5 of 5

Hi Ed, I'm so sorry it took me a bit to write up my review, it's a bit hard to get back into the swing of things when you get home from vacation and school is in session again. My family and I had an absolutely wonderful time and we thank you for the use of your condo! We travel yearly to Southern California, but had never tried out Imperial Beach, and what a mistake on our part! The condo was very clean and very well appointed and the fruit basket that greeted us upon our arrival was such a lovely and appreciated gesture and was pretty much decimated by the family hahah. We really felt at ease and at home in your condo which is sometimes difficult when traveling with children. It was a very nice touch Ed giving us a call to ensure our safe arrival, as was the call letting us know late check out would be fine should we need it due to reservations! The only thing I would suggest and it's so small (and possibly I missed it if you do have one) would be to have a small first aid kit with just small basics. We had a run in with some glass on the beach and I couldn't seem to locate a band aide in the property. As a mom I usually carry a few, but hadn't restocked my purse so we needed to head to the corner store to pick some up. Again it's so small, but being that it isn't a resort with incidentals those things you never really think about until the need arises and could make a difference in a needed situation especially if after hours for the corner market :). However, there was absolutely nothing else that we needed that wasn't at your property. From beach toys (my older son use the boogie board every day) to the sand toys for my toddler (even the stroller as we took a trip to the local swapmeet and it helped his little legs), to the umbrella and chairs....I have a bad back and it was so nice to have a chair, to even the conditioner someone left behind (I forgot mine) to the plastic food wrap when we cut the pineapple you gave us! Again we want to thank you and we will most definitely be back to IB and to your condo for our next vacation. Lisa Perez

Owner's Response: We take pride in having a lot of "stuff" in the condo that our guests would appreciate having available and not having to run to the market to get. The first aid kit is definitely an outstanding idea and we will certainly be adding one to our "stuff" inventory.

Beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay at Imperial. The view was breath taking and the place is very quiet not touristy at all. Sandy and Ed provided a fruit basket which didn't stand a chance with my husband and sons. We were even able to see dolphins playing in the ocean one morning from the beach.

Owner's Response: Of all San Diego's beaches, Imperial Beach is by far the best choice for a relaxing, laid-back vacation. No parking problems, no big crowds skateboarding right by you, etc.

Imperial Beach Condo

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Ed and Sandy's home.

Everything that you need for a relaxing break. The house is well equipped and in a fantastic location, the beach was not too busy and there were shops and restaurants within easy reach.

Ed did everything to make sure that our arrival and departure was easy. Keys were sent to us (whilst we were travelling, Ed sent them to our motel that we stopped at before our visit). A helpful list of local amenities, and attractions was also sent. Ed called us at the condo to make sure we had everything we needed. The fruit was a nice touch. Clean, and comfortable with electrical equipment that was modern and all working well, a great sized home. I would have no reservations in giving Ed and Sandy 5 stars and recommending them as hosts. Imperial Beach itself is a bit go a gem, quiet off the tourist trail so a fantastic break from the hustle and bustle.

Thank you for having us Ed and Sandy.

Helen and family.

Owner's Response: Imperial Beach is, indeed, a gem that is a wonderful place for families. Nice, quiet, walkable neighborhood and a great place to relax. We try hard to provide a smooth check-in process, to have everything in the condo that you might need, and to give a lot of info about the local area.

Imperial Beach is a quieter and more family friendly alternative to San Diego's other, busier beaches but is only 20 minutes or so from all of San Diego's attractions such as the zoo, Balboa Park, etc.
