***THIS IS A SHARED PROPERTY. THERE ARE THREE SEPARATE PRIVATE UNITS ON THE PROPERTY***
Chuns Reef Beach House sits on a beautiful 10,000 square foot lot with 130 feet of direct ocean frontage. The home sits directly on Chuns Reef Beach. The home is located on a corner lot with sand surrounding more than half of the home. The home is perfectly located halfway between Waimea Bay and Haleiwa town on Oahu's famous North Shore. The home was originally constructed as the Laniakea Train Station in the late 1800's. The home is raised above the winter surf on large cement pillars and because it was originally constructed many years ago it is built much closer to the beach than most North Shore beachfront homes.
Chuns Reef Beach House has one of the best locations on the North Shore with a beautiful white sandy beach at your doorstep. Once you open the gate, the sand is 4 steps away. We provide lots of beach toys for the use of our guests including sand chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, boogie boards, soft top surfboards, kayaks, and coolers. Chuns Reef is the best spot for water activities on the North Shore during the calm summer months!!!! The calm summertime reef is perfect for snorkeling, kayaking, stand up paddle board and beginner surf lessons. Tide pools in front of the home can provide hours of exploration for the little ones.
There is AMAZING world class surf in front of the property during the winter months. Two surf cams are located on the property.
The entire home was completely refurnished in 2013 with beautiful Balinese furnishings.
The garden studio is a stand alone studio located down a garden path at the rear of the property adjacent to Kamehameha Highway. There is traffic noise but it does quiet down at night. Many of the homes on the North Shore are built along this highway. This is the main 2 lane highway that runs through the entire North Shore. The garden studio features a sleeping area with a comfortable queen pillow top mattress, down bedding and fresh white linens. There is a 46' Sony flat screen TV in the sleeping area with DVD player.
There is an adjacent sitting area with a dining table for two and fully equipped kitchenette. The kitchenette features a mini fridge, stainless microwave oven, Breville counter top oven, blender, coffee maker, and cook top burner. The kitchenette is fully stocked with pots/pans, dishes and all utensils.
The garden studio DOES NOT have a ocean view. Garden studio guests have shared use of the common areas including the oceanfront jacuzzi, beach toys and direct beach access.
The garden studio features an in-wall air conditioner.
There is a small enclosed private lanai attached to the studio. It is for garden studio guests only. The covered lanai has been remodeled with a new roof and the lanai is nicely covered from the rain. The lanai features a Balinese daybed, table and chairs and fish pond. There is a BBQ for garden studio guests to use located by the oceanfront gazebo.
The garden studio bathroom is detached from the studio and located outside down a short lighted walkway. The walkway is lit with motion detector lights at night. The bathroom features a shower. The bathroom is for the exclusive use of the garden studio guests and features a key pad door lock.
There are also 3 outdoor showers on the property. The one nearest to the garden studio bathroom features hot water.
High speed wireless internet is provided throughout the property.
There are two sets of front load washers and dryers on the property.
The above ground beachfront jacuzzi is for the use of all guests on the property.
Iron and ironing board in room.
After tons of searching we decided to roll with the Bungalow. Hands down this is the complete package. I plan on going back in the future and when I do this will be where I stay again. For a couple the bungalow is perfect. There are other options on the property if you have a larger group which I highly recommend checking out. Chuns Reef is right there in the backyard of the property....So If you surf , want to be close to everything, remain private, walk from the bed to the beach within 30 seconds this is your spot.1-10 I give it a 12 across the board.
My husband & I stayed here over Labor Day weekend for my birthday & this little cozy place was absolutely what we needed! It's very romantic & the decor/furniture feels like home. It's literally steps away from the beach with your own private beach gate (excellent feature). They have outside showers to rinse the sand off which is very convenient. There's plenty of beach toys which was cool & the chairs were handy for sitting out on the sand. As soon as you open the gate to the property all you see is beautiful blue water, the view is breathless! The hot tub is very relaxing while watching the sunset & the outside ocean view patio area was so nice for the sunrises too! Michelle was very responsive & attentive to our questions/concerns before & during our stay. We appreciated and put to good use the list she had for us to do in North Shore. We got to meet Steve (the go to guy) when we first arrived and he was very welcoming, showing us around! Just FYI the bathroom is detached so you might want to bring a light robe. The kitchenette was nice (don't leave food out) some tiny ants got to some of our steak sauce that we left out over night. Otherwise, the place was perfect! I recommend staying here if you want to be away from Waikiki Beach and want some real relaxation!
This is a fabulous property in an excellent location. We loved our stay here. The bungalow is cozy and intimate yet has everything you need. Surfing directly to the right of the property, turtles sun a short walk across the rocks to the left. We saw 7. This property faces the perfect direction for sunsets. Loved sunsets in the hot tub after days out hiking, kayaking, surfing, and snorkeling with Mahina Hawaii Adventures. The pics make the hot tub look small but it is full size. The detached bathroom wasn't bad, but a robe would have been nice. Bed was comfortable, a/c was great, washer/dryer was helpful, outdoor shower was great, the new gazebo is so nice for eating meals while watching sunrise or sunset or the waves and surfers. Plenty of toys on site to borrow. Everything is in fabulous condition, except for the roof over the bungalow's lanai, which leaks on the couch, making it unusable because it is always wet. (Probably oughta fix that). You hear the road instead of the waves from the bungalow, but I bet you wouldn't from the oceanfront studio. The bungalow is the only unit here that would be that way. It was still fabulous though. The a/c kind of drowns it out and we still slept great with the white noise. Overall, I'd highly recommend this property. Pay attention to that 10 am checkout time. They were nice about it, but they did show up promptly at 10 to ready the place for the next people. Everything always smelled fresh and clean while we were here. We also saw a moonbow at night while in the hot tub, along with rainbows every day. The weather was perfect for us on this side of the island. A light, refreshing mist occasionally during the day which was pleasant and never interrupted our adventures, but cooled us nicely and brought out the rainbows. Plenty of sun and cool ocean breezes. Never too hot or too cold. Water is more comfortable than most hotel pool temps, which surprised me. Awesome plants and trees make this truly a paradise.
Beautiful beyond what we expected.
Wish I could upload our amazing pictures - This home on the North Shore made us feel like we had a mini resort all to ourselves.
Very thankful to also have access to shared laundry on the property. Owner was so kind, they even left laundry detergent & dryer sheets for us to use which we so greatly appreciated.
We hated saying goodbye and would come back in a heart beat hoping to bring our friends or family along next time! Thank you for this amazing experience!!!!
The property speaks for itself - amazing beachfront location on "The North Shore" nestled between Waimea Bay & Haleiwa Town with private, gated, safe parking (we rented a Jeep & left the top off the entire time). Take a dozen steps in any direction & you are on the beach, in the Jacuzzi, laying in the hammock, playing in the water with the provided ocean toys, grilling on the BBQ, sipping coffee on the patio or enjoying a drink under the gazebo.
This location has three areas that are rented out separately - or the entire property can be rented out as a whole. We stayed in the garden bungalow, which is separate from the main house that is divided into upper & lower sections & were lucky enough to be welcomed inside them all for a look around. The decorative touches, custom furnishings & "Aloha Spirit" is felt in every unit. That warm sense of hospitality starts with the owner, Michelle. She truly loves this place & it shows. She genuinely cares about her guests - you will feel her aloha! Plus, she really values her employees. During our stay, we got to meet Dianne, who is the primary caretaker. What a true & refreshing person to be around! You can tell that she really cares about her job - it shows in her quality of work.
The garden bungalow is an intimate space that provides everything you need for an excellent self-sustained vacation. The queen bed is very comfortable with bright white linens & a surplus of comfy pillows. The AC unit & tower fan cool the space effectively & help drown out some minor road noise at night. (I am a light sleeper and slept great!)
Staying in the bungalow feels a little more like glamour camping on a private beach in comfort and style, rather than staying in some sterile hotel room in Waikiki along with a million other people. With that in mind, there are a few minor details that you need to be prepared for so that you can have the best experience possible & love this place as much as my wife & I did:
1. If you leave food out, unprotected for a significant length of time, tiny ants might sniff it out & help themselves. This ONLY happened in the kitchenette when we accidentally left food out, they were harmless.
2. It is a very humid climate right on the beach & there is not really a cross breeze available through the bungalow - which lead to a temporary musty smell.
Michelle & Dianne work very hard to mitigate these minor issues & make their guests comfortable. We felt extremely valued as guests & recommend highly! :-)
