Please note that Dominica was hit with a hurricane in September 2017. My house did not sustain damage, however, I currently do not have electricity or internet. I do have hot and cold running water that is safe to drink. Due to the lack of electricity I have lowered my price to $30 US per night. Things are safe in Dominica. Tourist sites are open as are the roads. The best thing you can do for Dominica is to come and be a tourist and help financially that way. I have lowered my rates through May 31 to accommodate for the electricity.
Unique property on the beach and next to the Layou River, the largest river in Dominica, in the center of village. Truly a Dominican experience. Local eateries next door and across the street. Studio apartment w/king in sleep loft and full futon in living room 1 bathroom w/hot shower downstairs with wireless internet. Open air living space on second floor. w/kitchen, bath w/hot shower, hammocks, hot tub, loungers. Safe, colorful neighborhood. Right on the beach. Off street parking. We have local shops across the street and next door where you can purchase local meals. Mary will even save you dinner if you ask her to when you leave in the morninig. We are also a fishing village so fresh fish may be available daily. We recommend a rental car, but the local bus service runs through town, listen for honking horn from bus drivers or walk 5 minutes to the main road and catch the next bus.

About Patti Rendell
We live in Dominica part time right now. We spend 9 months throughout the year here and then 1 month in the U.S. in Arizona or we are out traveling the world the rest of the year. We are avid scuba divers and hikers. We built the Beach House for family weekends and to store our small sailboats. We live in Salisbury, about 10 minutes away on the west coast of Dominica.
Patti Rendell purchased this House in 2011
Why Patti Rendell chose Layou
This property is unique because it is on the beach. There are no other properties in this price range, that are on the beach. In addition, the house is on the Layou River, Dominica's largest river, where you can swim in the fresh water also. The house is in the center of a vibrant and lively village, just a 5 minute walk from the main road if you want to use the local buses. See what our guests say

The Beach House Layou Dominica
This house definitely was the highlight of our stay in Dominica. Such a great place right on the beach. So many amenities. Comfortable bed, nice jacuzzi, great view from the upper deck. Patty was a great host and gave suggestions when we needed some go sightseeing. She was easy to reach. Great place! Awesome view. Super clean.
Patty's property manager, Scott, came by the first morning to make sure we were happy and comfortable.
Be sure to eat next door at Mary's for local food. Sandy's across the street is great for a quick fried chicken and some bakes. Just a great place.
Amazing island great apartment
Great place in a small village where the people were extremely nice and made us feel safe and part of the community. View of the ocean from the outdoor living space was great! Fairly central location so didn't take a long time to get to anywhere we wanted to go. Overall nice place,
Thanks for the nice review. I hope you enjoyed your time on Dominica and had a good trip home.
Interesting place with a great upstairs floor!
The beach house was an interesting place. The top floor was wonderful. It had a nice view of the ocean with a constant breeze. It was great to be able to cook up there. The ocean was only a minute walk away. It was nice to be so close.
The issues we had were with the sleeping situation. The loft got hot and stuffy and a couple of small windows didn't help.
If you want quiet, this is not the place. The area was very noisy. Neighbors started playing music loudly and early and it continued into the night. Roosters started crowing at the crack of dawn. We could hear people talking in the streets until late. It was fun to mingle with the locals, but be prepared for noise. If you aren't used to it, it makes sleeping difficult.
Overall, we did like being there.
Thank you for the review. I'm sorry the sleeping loft was stuffy and hot, did you have the air conditioner on? I have put a fan up there now to circulate the air better. The house is in the middle of a village, which is what gives the experience of what life is like in Dominica as well as giving an opportunity to meet the local people. The neighbors around the house are very vigilant and want to make sure that any guests there have a good time. I'm glad you liked the open air room upstairs. That is where all the guests spend their time.
I hope you will return to Dominica for another visit.
My stay in Villa Verde Salisbury was fantastic! The home is very well taken care of and provided everything I needed – ample space including living room and kitchen, laundry and a beautiful view and ocean breeze to top it off. The owners have a very nice patio with hammocks perfect for napping. I would recommend this vacation rental to any single or couple coming to the beautiful island for adventure and relaxation.
Robyn, thanks for your review. Glad you had a good time
fantastic place to stay
The Beach House is a great place to stay for your holiday. I and my wife spent there only 4 days. It was too short. We couldn't use an open air living space with grill, hammocks and great ocean views. 4-5 days on Dominica is definitely too short. If one day we return on Dominica, we'll try to book The Beach House again.
I truly reccomend this place for short and longer stay.
Patricia gave us a lot of information about Dominica, what to see, where and how to go, altough we have never met. Thank you very much.
The Beach House is an incredible place to stay!
The Beach House is an incredible place to stay! I found everything I needed to cook meals, bathe, sleep comfortably, and find attractions and resources all over the island. The house was very clean and well maintained, and also had several "no-fly" items like shampoo, lotion and sunscreen available when I arrived. The location in Layou is beautiful! Also it is a great place to meet locals, get food and supplies, and has a bus stop less than a quarter mile away (although the buses often come right to the front door too!). All of the neighbors were very friendly and helpful in making my first trip to Dominica unforgettable.
Patricia was an ideal host to rent from. She gave me invaluable information to help me with booking my flights from the US and learning more about Dominica, how to get around and where to go for any touring services I could've desired. Her responses to all of my inquires were always prompt, clear and concise. Her neighbor Scott was also very helpful. He showed me around the house, introduced me to the other neighbors, bought groceries for me for my first day or two, and left his contact numbers in case I needed anything else. Thank you Scott!
Read a few reviews that said the internet there didn't work sometimes or was spotty, but I did not experience that problem at any time throughout the week I was there. The internet was always connected and decently fast; a great luxury as I had no cell service anywhere on the island.
Overall I couldn't have been happier with my rental choice. I highly recommend this location for first timers in Dominica as well as returning visitors, and would love to stay there again when I go back. The unmatched price/location is definitely a huge plus, without sacrificing quality or comfort in any way. I give my highest regard to both the house itself and the owner/host.
In the center of the village of Layou. There is a small grocery market next door which also prepares local lunch, Mary will save you food if you ask her.. There is a shop across the street to buy fried chicken and bakes and a bar next door, Boyd's. Boyd also prepares lunch when he is open.
