TAPING OF THE SHOW OCCURRED IN OCTOBER, 2007, WITH THE PROGRAM BEING RERUN WITH THE TITLE 'LOOKING TO GET OUT OF THE COLD!'....SO IF YOU DECIDE TO STAY HERE, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE WHERE YOU STAYED ON THE TELEVISION SHOW! THE SHOW OFTEN RUNS IN RERUNS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR! In the meantime I say....Aloha, and Mahalo for your interest in our wonderful Big Island vacation rental. I know you will enjoy the Panoramic ocean view from all rooms of this first class oceanfront vacation house, which will take your breath away... As well as the spectacular views of the daily sun rise while laying in the master bedroom and the moon beams at night on the ocean!
SOME RECENT GUESTS SAID IT BEST.....just wanted to let you know we definitely did not regret our decision to stay at Oceanfront! It was definitely our favorite of the 4 places we stayed on the Big Island!
'What a jewel of the world your place is! We spent 9 nights and each day was better than the last. Amazing sunrises, a moon rise that lit up the ocean, and the best snorkeling right from your front yard! Our kids had a blast in the tide pools and even saw an octopus! We hated to leave and we will definitely be back! Mahalo for letting us stay at your house.
MARTINI POND, which is a tidal pool in your front yard, has geothermally, volcanic heated water flowing into it and it mixes with the ocean water for a soothing blend that you will feel wash over you as you swim in this unique ocean pond! A short walk through the neighborhood gets you to Coral Pond and Hula Cove with beautiful coral and large schools of a huge variety of fish...even turtles!
We try to pay attention to your every need, with beautiful Polynesian decor, bamboo ceiling, granite kitchen counters, and shoji doors. A honeymoon delight or a place to rejuvenate oneself. An ideal place for snorkeling in the many lava tidal pools as Vacationland is now a Marine Fish Reserve. Spend time in Martini Pond for your daily dip, shower off, and then go for a walk around a neighborhood that is like a botanical garden filled with flowers, trees, and foliage. A recent guest told us it is like being in the movie Jurrasic Park! During whale season, November through April, you can hear their tails flap from your deck.
Located on the east side of the Big Island known as sunny Kapoho, you are a one mile drive to thermal hot ponds, Kahena Black Sand Beach where turtles typically hang out and rest, awe inspiring scenery as you drive through the Hawaiian countryside, and so much more. Take a day trip to Volcano National Park for hiking through a wonderful park with lava tubes, craters, trails restaurants and more! Golfing is nice by Volcano as well as in Hilo. Plan to take the short drive to Hilo and spend the day. The Botanical Gardens are sure to impress! Be sure and experience the local cuisine in Pahoa, just 8 miles away! While in Pahoa, make the Tin Roof Bakery one of your stops! To experience local culture at it's finest, every Wednesday evening is an event at Uncle Robert's in Kalapani. Local musicians, dancers, and a Farmers Market. Bring your appetite as the food vendors are unique and delicious! This oceanfront vacation house is in an ideal location to experience the pristine undeveloped east side of the Big Island in luxury. MAHALO! I HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

About Carol Plancich
Sam and I visited the Big Island for the first time in 2013. We found a people who were very hospitable to us and immediately felt a sense of belonging. Escaping from the winter of Alaska, who could resist the warm tropical breezes, the most amazing snorkeling in the world famous Wai Opae tide pools, and above all, the million dollar view from the lanai...not to mention the sunrise! Coming to stay at the house is a respite from all the crazy things going on in the world, the stresses of work, and life in general.
Carol Plancich purchased this House in 2014
Why Carol Plancich chose Kapoho
There are some places in this world that are magical, and Kapoho is one of those places. On our visit early this year, we enjoyed our oceanfront stay so much, that we only left to go to the grocery store to stock up, so we didn't have to leave our paradise for a few more days! We just wanted to hang out and relax and swim and snorkel with the turtles and everything else that lives in the ocean! Our first vacation ever, that we came back totally rested and renewed! It is one of a kind, with special qualities that make it an ideal place to visit, live and play. There truly are, no other places like it! The ultimate place to get away from the hustle and bustle of crowded tourist areas. Featuring also, a quiet and friendly neighborhood.
What makes this House unique
The view from the lanai has been described by dozens of visitors to Oceanfront as the 'million dollar view'. You have to see it to believe it. The ocean shows different qualities every day. In fact, it changes by the minute. From its majestic purples, royal blues, to its golden hues it puts on a different show each day. With tide pools to snorkel in, first class accommodations, and the ocean right out your door, I truly can't think of a better place to stay while you take advantage of all the wonderful things to do on the Big Island.

Carol's house was absolutely perfect for our vacation! The location was great, right at the top of the tide pools yet far enough away from the daily visitors to them. Snorkling was amazing - don't miss the coral gardens, as others have mentioned. We're from the east coast, so woke up every morning to watch the sunrise and it never disappointed.
The location was great for day trips to volcano national park, Uncle Robert's farmers market, Hilo and points north. But, as others have said, the best times we had were chilling with fruity beverages on the lanai and just slowing down from the daily rat race.
We spent the last night of our vacation in Kona, primarily to do the submarine tour there. In the end, we were *so* glad we didn't spend our whole vacation on the west side of the island, and kinda wished we spent that final night in Kapoho as well!
Don't hesitate, just book this property now - you won't regret it!
My favorite time of day is sunrise!
To lay in bed each morning with a cup of coffee and watch The Master Artist at work! Incredibly beautiful and so different each day! I’m never ready to leave this property!
Beautiful Location and Great Snorkeling
My wife and I spent 9 days here in January 2018 and, other than a stretch of rainy weather, had a great time at this rental home. This was our 3rd trip to the Kapoho Tide Pools area and our first time renting this home. The views from the deck were simply amazing, with a 180 degree view of the ocean and tide pools. The two bedrooms had plenty of room and the master bed was comfortable, with fans in each room for when it got warm. Wireless internet connection speed was good and kitchen was nice and roomy with plenty of utensils and cookware. They also provided a plastic ice chest which we used nearly every day. The neighborhood is very quiet at night, other than the frogs that croaked us to sleep every night.
The best thing about this house, however, is that some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii is only about 200 yards down the street from the house at the Kapoho Tide Pools. Kapoho Tide Pools was formed by lava flows which then formed into pools that are now a protected marine sanctuary. There are lots of tropical fish, a few eels, lots of coral and we even saw a few sea turtles on our last day snorkeling. We brought our own snorkeling gear but the owners did provide some extra masks and snorkels for guests to use. I recommend snorkeling at higher tides when the tide is coming in to make it easier to move from one pool to another and see more fish (consult tide tables for Hilo on the internet). I also recommend using reef shoes, instead of fins, if you are a little afraid of the water since you can then stand up in many of the pools and also easily walk across the lava rocks to the next pool you want to explore if needed.
We've already booked a week at this home for next year!
Clean, well equipped, beautiful spot but a little out of the way for most sightseeing.
It's a bit of a hike off the beaten path but if you're looking for a nice, quiet, nature filled Hawaii retreat this is for you! It's in the rainy side of the island so weather can be hit or miss. The snorkeling is wonderful and the hot pool a couple miles away was great! Pahoa has some great food/restaurants and is your nearest town. The only caution I have is that there is a frog species here (other islands have their roosters, here it's frogs) that can chirp incessantly all night long. They may not always be there but I would recommend some earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
The booking and check in went very smoothly and the hosts leave all kinds of great info and guidance. I recommend this home highly for 2-3 people- the second bedroom has a double bed I think, not a full queen. Overall though it's a gorgeous place to get away from everything and enjoy the magnificent power of the island!
Awesome place to stay!
We loved our stay here on the Kapoho Tidepools. House as described, and perfect for our family of 4 (my husband and I, our two sons ages 7 and 9). We loved the view from the deck, and even saw a few whales in the mornings (binoculars provided)! We tried snorkeling out front, but was pretty rough to access. So, as suggested by Carol, we walked down the road (not even 5 minutes) and found amazing snorkeling in Coral Gardens. We loved it (brought our own water shoes, they were a MUST and our full-face snorkel masks (look silly, but amazing, especially for kids). We also drove down to Kalapana to access the active lava flow, about 30 minutes from house. Biked 4 miles, hiked 2 miles and saw the most amazing active lava. This is part of the Volcano National Park, but not the Visitor's Center, that is further from the house. We arrived at bike rental 2 hours before sunset and reached lava with about 10 minutes of daylight, so got some great pics, then awesome lava glow at night. Walk back was 2 miles over lava fields, but all of us did fine, and bikes definitely helped for the long way back down the gravel road (4 miles)! We rented from KCT bike rentals and they were very helpful. These details obviously will change as the active lava flows change locations. We also went to Uncle Robert's on Wednesday night for the market, it was fun and live music was great. Along the same road was the access to hike down to the black sand beach, which was really awesome. This was about 20 minutes from the house. Totally worth the short hike down the cliff (wear good shoes, flip flops were not a great idea). It was clothing-optional, so thankfully our kids accepted that pretty well, but be prepared to explain if your children ask! Loved the house, and used a few kitchen items. All were in great shape. Instructions were great, and the binder of information that Carol left out was helpful. Also reading the comments in the guest book was helpful for us! Some supplies were in the bathroom cabinet (sunblock and first aid), but that is dependent on what others may have left behind. We laughed at the 6 bottles of hydrogen peroxide when we arrived. Then, my son and I both wiped out on the lava rocks, and understand why so many people had to buy that! The rocks are slippery when going in to snorkel, water shoes with good grip are imperative. We loved our stay, and hope to come back again someday! Carol was wonderful!
Thanks Amanda! That was nice to put so much effort into your review! Hope to hear from you soon!
Very lovely and peaceful.
Unique and charming. Plenty of things to do nearby. Really enjoyed our stay.
Volcano National Park is an easy drive and a very impressive day. Explore the Lava tubes and walk among foliage which reminds you of Jurassic Park! Hot ponds just one mile down the road are a great place to soak and watch the sunrise! Farmers Markets, and a must experience is to visit Uncle Roberts in Kalapana! Two golf courses in the Hilo area and one by Volcano...not bad courses compared to ones in Alaska! Oh! and don't forget to take time to walk on the lava flow. If you are lucky enough to be visiting when the volcano is erupting, watch it fall into the ocean!
