Whale Of Fortune is your fortune, and then some. This exceptionally well-equipped beach home in beautiful Corolla has 4 master king suites for the grownups and 5 bunks for the kids! Amenities include hot tub, private pool, a separate kiddie pool, game room w/pool table and big screen TV, a new screen porch, volleyball, basketball, swing set, corn hole. Every bedroom has it's own flat screen TV, and every TV has cable!

More details and an interactive floor plan are available at this link:

Ground level offers King Master suite w/private bath, newly painted game room w/Duo Bunk and kitchenette (fridge, microwave, dishwasher, cabinets, sink). Game room has pool, foosball, air hockey, and 46' flat screen TV.

Mid-Level has entry hall, laundry, 2 King suites (w/private baths) and 2 bunk rooms which share a full bath.

Upper level offers huge kitchen (with new cabinets and flooring, refrigerator), new screened porch, great room with 60" flat screen TV & new furniture, and King master suite (w/ private bath).

We are about 2 blocks from oceanfront (900’). It’s a pretty easy walk and we have a cart that you can use to wheel stuff to the beach. We’re also about 2 blocks from the Currituck sound in the opposite direction. The shopping area at Corolla Light is accessible via walking trails and is about a third of a mile (that’s an estimate). The shopping center has a mini-golf course, bakery, multiple restaurants, ice cream and candy store, clothing and gift stores. The Currituck light house, historic Whalehead Hunt Club, and marine nature center are across the street from the shopping center. There is a Food Lion 3 miles away – many more restaurants and stores are in that shopping center. There is a very nice shopping center, Timbuktu, across from the Food Lion. A couple of miles to the north, the road ends and there is a nature walk where you can see the wild horses.

The northern beaches (like Corolla) are less crowded than those to the south (Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, etc). And while there are plenty of restaurants and stores, we are much less commercial and more family friendly than the southern beaches.

About Keith Coates

We grew up in Virginia and began coming to the Outer Bank as kids - at least 40 years ago. We have come back every year, at least once each year. We discovered Corolla and the Whalehead Beach neighborhood 15 years ago when our kids were young, and haven't stayed anywhere else since then. Corolla is less commercial, less crowded, and more family friendly than most of the beaches to the south.

Keith Coates purchased this house in 2013

Why Keith Coates chose Whalehead Beach

We fell in love with this house. It needed some TLC when we purchased it in October of 2013. You will love the big spaces, inside and out. The 4 master bedrooms with king size beds and private baths are perfect when you need some private time in the midst of a fun filled vacation. The pool deck is absolutely huge. We couldn't believe it has a separate kiddie pool in addition to the large pool! Plus volleyball, basketball, a swingset. Wow, this house has it all!

What makes this house unique

You'll love the privacy you'll get at Whale of Fortune. The house sits on a large lot that is separated from neighbors by trees and shrubs. You won't find many houses that have enough dining seating for as many people that can sleep there. Not only can you seat 19 in the eating area of the greatroom - you could invite guests! But you don't have to have everyone upstairs. The gameroom on the first floor has it's own kitchenette with fridge, microwave, dishwasher, sink, and cabinets. Send the teenagers down there! They can watch 46' flat screen TV while having their meals. Or they can play pool. Or foosball. Or air hockey. You CANNOT get bored at this house!

Spring on the Beach

  • 5 of 5

Our friends were visiting from England, there are 13 in all! We wanted a place to vacation together. This was the perfect house for us. With 9 children, it was comfortable, perfect for our families!

Keith returns e mails quickly, and the rental management company was prompt when we had an issue.

Just to note, there are no staple items, paper towels, extra toilet paper, trash bags, napkins. Conveniently there is a food lion 2 miles away.

I also bought food from my grocery store at home (in VA) thinking it would be more expensive at the beach. To my surprise it was comparable.

We will stay again!

Lovely, comfortable house!

  • 5 of 5

We had a party of two families, a total of 13 people. It was perfect for us! We had ample bedrooms, the ammenities were just as described. The directions on how to operate the tvs and internet were clear.

Be advised that there are no standard items such as hand soap, garbage bags, napkins, paper towels, extra toilet paper.

There is a Kuerig type coffee maker. (It's an odd brand name, but works great!)

The walk to the beach was a bit far for us, as we had small children, but the parking lot was close, and we enjoyed the clean uncrowded beaches. Being less than a mile from the lighthouse and only 2 miles from the store, was very convenient. The owner is very good about responding to emails quickly. The property managers also responded quickly when we had a problem.

Would consider staying again.

Spring break getaway

  • 4 of 5

Looking for a large and spacious hangout for a family reunion or just a bunch of friends?? This place delivers! Not only is it close to the beach which offers hours of fun even if you're not in the water (our kids dug in the sand, jumped the dunes, and flew kites to their hearts content) but the home itself is seriously so spacious, with well stocked options for fun, like books and movies for kids and adults alike. As far as the rating goes, I only knocked off a star because we had some concerns about the safety of the playground and surrounding property for the friend and I were vacationing with our 10 children combined so it was quite important. Luckily this property also boasts a Manager that is invested in the happiness of his renters. He was prompt in having someone assess the situation and get things taken care of. We left for home happy to have ventured down to North Carolina for the week.

Great home for the entire family

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our entire family ranging from grandparents down to their 2 year old grandson. We had plenty of space and the home had everything we needed to cook meals and just relax and feel right at home. It is the perfect location as we were able to walk to the beach and get right on the bike trail to ride down the street to the park and shops. The park is on the Currituck Sound and you can watch the most amazing sunsets.

Great for all ages

  • 5 of 5

This house is ideal for a large group regardless of age. Our family ranged in age from one to seventy-one and everyone had a good time. You couldn't find a more family friendly place. The pool and deck area are unusually large with plenty of seating. The hot tub was used many times. The decks on the second and third level are large and well furnished. We spent a lot of time on the top deck especially in the late afternoon and evening. The great room is excellent for a lot of people. At one point all 18 of us ate at the same time. Check with the management company to see what is provided. We didn't realize we would have to bring all types of soap, dish towels, paper towels, and extra toilet tissue. The owner is particularly helpful and responded quickly to every email.

Restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, outdoor adventure options are all nearby - most within walking distance.
