Overview

About the property

Sleeps 6, 2 Baths, Meadow/Mountain Views, Modern Kitchen, Large Deck, Fireplace

Our cabin is in Wawona, a small village located inside Yosemite National Park. The cabin comfortably sleeps six in two bedrooms and a separate closed-off alcove area. There is a modern kitchen, dining area, and a family room that faces a large stone fire place. One bedroom has a king-size bed; the other bedroom has a queen-size bed. The alcove area has a trundle bed with two twin-size beds.

The modern kitchen has a gas cook top and oven, large refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and abundant cooking and eating utensils.

The family room has an L-shaped sofa and rocking chair, free Dish TV and Wi-Fi, ceiling fan, and a large fire place (great during winter). Ample firewood is provided at no charge. The dining room table sits six comfortably and the kitchen bar seats an additional two guests.

There are two bathrooms (shower in one, tub and shower in the other). A washer and dryer are also in the cabin and are provided at no extra cost.

A large deck surrounds the cabin and provides unobstructed views of Wawona Dome and an adjacent meadow where deer and other wildlife often gather. The deck is furnished with tables and chairs for more than ten people and a propane barbecue.

The cabin has forced-air heating to keep you warm during winter nights and a ceiling fan to help cool you during the summer.

Parking for five cars in a circular driveway provides easy all-year access off of the paved road.

The cabin is within 45 minutes driving time of Yosemite Valley where you can walk in the steps of John Muir as you view Yosemite Falls, Bridalveil Falls, Half Dome, Cathedral Spires, El Capitan, and Mirror Lake. You can also hike to Vernal Falls, Nevada Falls, and Half Dome through Happy Isles and along the Mist Trail.

The cabin is also within 50 minutes of Badger Pass Ski Area and Glacier Point. In the winter, Badger Pass offers downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. At Glacier Point, you will have a panoramic view of Yosemite Valley, the park's many water falls, and Half Dome. It is also a trail head for the 8-mile spectacular Panorama Trail to the Valley floor along which you will view Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls up close (but not too close).

The cabin is also a short drive to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Redwood Trees. Take the tram or hike and enjoy the experience; it is worth it.

The village of Wawona is minutes away from the cabin with a country store, post office, gas station, stables, the historic Wawona Hotel, the Yosemite Pioneer History Center, and the beautiful Wawona Golf Course.

On Saturday evenings, check to see if there is a barn dance at the Pioneer Yosemite History Center or an outdoor barbeque at the Wawona Hotel. The whole family will enjoy it.

From the cabin you are also minutes away from swimming or fishing in the Merced River. A secret spot to enjoy the river is near the flat rock, across the road and down the hill from the Wawona School in the village. You can also take a leisurely hike to the swinging bridge over the south fork of the Merced River or a more challenging hike to the top of Chilnualna Falls.

There is even a public library just down the street from the cabin if you want a quiet spot to relax, read, and research your next excursion.

About Diane Martin

Two families have owned and enjoyed this cabin for over 20 years. It has been a cherished spot for many family vacations, retreats, and reunions.

The owners have continued to update the cabin with new tile and carpeting, modern appliances, comfortable beds and furniture, and a unique deck that surrounds the cabin and offers wonderful views. The owners treat this cabin like their home because it is, and they want their guests to experience the same joy, wonder, and happiness that Yosemite has provided their families throughout the years.

Diane Martin purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Diane Martin chose Yosemite Area

The cabin is actually inside Yosemite National Park, not in an adjoining town or area. It is located next to an open meadow and has a great view of Wawona Dome, which turns golden as the sun sets. The accommodations are modern, convenient, and comfortable. This cabin will enable our guests to enjoy fully a true Yosemite experience in a private home without worrying about trying to secure campground or hotel reservations.

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin is warm and comfortable. After a day of hiking or golfing in the spring, summer, or fall, you can spend a lovely evening on the large deck, enjoying a barbecue dinner, the incomparable view of the alpenglow that basks Wawona Dome, and the deer that stroll across the adjacent meadow. After a day of skiing or snowshoeing in the winter, you can prepare your favorite drink and snacks as you relax or read in front of a roaring fire.

And, in any season, you can watch the free satellite TV or hop on the internet. But don't spend too much time doing this; after all, you are in Yosemite!

Wonderful stay, great customer service, delightful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I came to Yosemite for a birthday weekend. We had a magical and perfect stay. From the beginning, the owners were responsive and delightful to work with. We arrived late to the cabin on a Friday evening, and the keys were easy to find. The cabin has great views of the mountains, is easily accessible to trails, and has a little creek that flows by. We spent a day in the Valley and the drive was seamless and beautiful! Couldn't have asked for a better birthday weekend to unplug and enjoy the great outdoors. Thank you for a fantastic stay and home!

Another great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Many, many years ago we stayed at the Ahwahnee and Wawona Hotels but have not since we found your cabin. On the first night of our stay we always dine on your fabulous deck. The view of Wawona Dome from it is spectacular. No matter what time of year, at night we sit on the deck and stargaze.

We like to dine at the Wawona Hotel aka Big Trees Lodge. We enjoy its food, ambiance, and proximity (a mile?). We also travel to Fish Camp to dine at the Narrow Gauge Inn which is about 30 – 40 minutes away. We thoroughly enjoy their food and love to ride the steam locomotive next door.

We can’t think of a better location with its beautiful walking trails, hiking, golf (yes, golf), snowboarding, snowshoeing, horseback riding, the Wawona Pioneer History Center, and the Mariposa Groves (we look forward to the reopening of the groves this fall).

Our children have grown up at your cabin and our memories are endless. We are eternally grateful to you for always making us so welcome.

We’ll be back in July!

Terrible experience

  • 1 of 5

Originally we had planned to stay in one of the Park Lodges but because of a washed out road allowing no access to Yosemite Valley, we switched last minute to this home. We booked it 2 full days before our scheduled arrival. We received an email stating that a key would be left under the front door mat after 3pm. When we arrived at 5:20 there was no key, no one around, and no cell service in this tiny village. After searching around the entire house and finding nothing we proceeded to stop every person on the street we could find to see if they knew the owner. Luckily someone did and we were able to drive over to her home. Apparently the internet had been down at her home and she'd spent the afternoon with tech support trying to verify that we had in fact paid. We did. I had a confirmation email from 2 days prior stating exactly that. It still took her another 20 minutes to agree to give us the key even though we showed her the email with all the confirmation codes. She gave no apology for leaving us stranded, trying to find her with no way to contact her. We stayed last week at another HomeAway home and that owner provided several ways to contact her including phone numbers.

Once we finally did get into the home it was as described and worked just fine for our family. The Wi-Fi- however NEVER worked and the owner never once contacted us to apologize for the mix-up or help with the wi-fi. I would NOT under any circumstances recommend this property because of this. Imagine spending a wonderful, long day hiking in Yosemite only to drive a full hour to this home and then be left standing on the porch with no idea of how to get in or who to contact. Absolutely irresponsible. She KNEW we were coming and did not leave a note or a key or any way to contact her.

Also, while this home is TECHNICALLY within the park (it is, the gate is about a 5 minute drive away), it is still a FULL HOUR outside of the valley. So each morning and evening you still have a FULL hour to drive to see anything. You're better off staying out of the park and coming in thru Mariposa. There are also almost no restaurants nearby and the local grocery store carries no more than a gas station as far as food. When we did drive to a restaurant it was again a full hour past this home to find anything besides the Tenaya Lodge.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest: We are sorry for the problems you experienced at our cabin. It is the first negative review we have received in 30+ years of ownership, and we take it seriously. As far as your specific complaints: (1) The keys should have been waiting for you. For that oversight, we and our local manager apologize. (2) You unfortunately arrived during a highly unusual period of internet issues based largely on the weather in the area this season. We have spent well over 20 hours trying to resolve the issues with the carrier. They are now fully resolved. (3) The cabin is in Yosemite National Park in the historic village of Wawona along with 250+ other privately-owned cabins. As indicated in the listing, Wawona is about 45 minutes from the attractions in Yosemite Valley. There are no privately-owned cabins in Yosemite Valley. Anyone wishing to stay near Yosemite Valley should probably make reservations at the hotel, lodge, or public campgrounds that are located in the Valley. Anyone wishing to enjoy fewer crowds, quick access to the wilderness, and the many amenities of the southern part of Yosemite National Park (e.g., Lower fork of the Merced River, Upper and Lower Chilnualna Falls, Wawona Dome, Badger Pass, Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove of Giant Redwoods, Panorama Trail, Big Pines Lodge and restaurant, Wawona Golf Course, Wawona Pioneer Village, etc., etc., etc.,) should rent a cabin in Wawona. Again, we apologize for your inconvenience during your stay at our cabin. Hundreds of other guests have reported having a wonderful time there.

Looking forward to our next trip!

  • 5 of 5

What a nice couples weekend spent at this lovely cabin. Access to many trails right from the cabin was a treat. The short hick to the swinging bridge was quite a surprise for us. The cabin had everything we needed for a long weekend getaway trip with friends. The nights were cold so the fireplace, with the provided wood, made it even more special. We will definitely come back.

Not one thing missing!

  • 5 of 5

When it comes to convenience, a view and comfort, this lovely cabin has it all! I was one in a family group of six adults and two toddlers and believe it or not, all of us were very comfortable. The beautiful fireplace kept the cabin warm and the dining table was large enough for all of us to enjoy a family meal together. I also want to add that the cabin was very clean and everything in it was well taken care of. It didn't matter whether we chose to drive 40 minutes to the Yosemite Village or stay in the Wawona Village because both offer beautiful views, wildlife, and plenty to do. I especially enjoyed hiking in the rain, thunder and lightening. I definitely would recommend this to family and friends.
