About Cheri L. Vos

Danny and Sherry Rhoten are the proud owners of 2 vacation rentals in Camp Nelson. Danny retired in 1996 from Southern California Edison (SCE) after 30 years of service. A few years later, he started his own company 'Rhoten Technical Services' and has been doing consulting work for the engineering department for SCE almost continually from 1999 until the present. Sherry presently is and has been a Special Education teacher for the Porterville Unified School District for many years. She is the head of a program for pre-school autistic children where she uses her masters degree in Special Education and is a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst. We have 5 grown children and 13 grandchildren. Years ago, when our children were in elementary and high school we hosted over the years 19 foreign exchange students.

When Sherry was 9 years old, she and her family moved from Bakersfield to Camp Nelson where her father, being a building contractor, was hired to build the additions to the Camp Nelson Lodge and build the motel. They liked it so much that they built a new house in Camp Nelson for themselves and stayed on. Sherry grew up here and only left when she left for college.

We moved back to Camp Nelson in 2003 and love living here full-time.

Cheri L. Vos purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Cheri L. Vos chose Sequoia, Kings Canyon

When the property near our home came up for auction it included 3 lots and this cabin. We fell in love with the location and seclusion and decided to put in a bid. Our bid was accepted and we were thrilled!

We had the cabin remodeled the next year and love the master craftsmanship that went into the design and construction of our little cabin.

We know when you walk in you will understand what we mean and become enchanted with its charm as well!

What makes this cabin unique

This adorable cozy mountain cabin is located on a secluded road in the beautiful Sequoia National Monument. Completely remodeled from head to toe featuring a loft with 2 double beds and a Queen size Murphy bed downstairs, sleeps 6. Open floor plan. After an exciting day of sightseeing, hiking, biking, snowmobiling, or boating, relax with your flat screen TV and DVD player or enjoy some peace and quiet time on the new spacious deck, hidden below a canopy of trees. For the cook, have a go at the antique electric stove and antique refrigerator, both of which work like they were new or use the charcoal burning BBQ on the deck for nice hamburger or steak dinner. For the chilly nights there is a wall furnace supplying the heat. Located on private road, it lends itself to peaceful seclusion. A perfect romantic hideaway.

Amazing little cabin

  • 5 of 5

Great little cabin, spent most of our time on the deck from relaxing to enjoying the chiminea, to meals. But when we were inside (to sleep) it was the coziest little place and had everything we needed. The Murphy bed was surprisingly SUPER comfortable. Only thing I'd say is be sure to pack all food b/c the market is lacking in substantial food of any kind and the tavern seems to be hit or miss on if they are serving food. Lots of great hiking in the area (highly recommend the Nelson trail). Beautiful and peaceful area!

Incredible trip ;)

  • 5 of 5

Thanks Cheri! You are an excellent property manager, and made everything really smooth. Couldn't have asked for a better trip. Awesome chiminea outside, didnt use it because it was hot (summer!). Stars are incredible. Bring mosquito spray, works like a charm . They weren't too bad at cottage, but walking around Tule river, etc... , becomes intense at times. Cabin is cozy , everything was very clean . Whole town waves and is really friendly. Tavern hits the spot for a mountain tavern. Really great inexpensive food. Hit the mark for breakfast. (Chicken fried steak , eggs, hashbrown, sourdough toast, and gravy!!! ) My dog was in love with the hard and open space.
