Perfect for those seeking a peaceful retreat or just to get away for some time alone. This original Florida cracker-style house consists of the main great room, kitchen and dining areas, one bathroom and one bedroom with a queen bed. We do have a pull-out bed in the living room. It is a really cool and relaxing house. It is wired with WIFI, Local TV and ROKU for hundreds of internet channels. There is a huge music collection that you have full use of. CD's, Cassettes, LP Records and Radio. The home has central air, RO Water Filtration for drinking water and ice. Your dog is welcome. Two minutes to local ramp for fishermen. Bring your boat or kayaks.Close to marinas, boat ramps and restaurants. Take the local ferry to the out-island like Cayo Costa, Captiva and Cabbage Key for lunch. This is a remote location. So don't be surprised if you get a visit from our local peacocks. We sometimes see a set of pure white ones. Old Tropical Florida at it's finest.

Perfect little place to get away from it all

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough of how adorable this cottage was. The area is secluded enough to make you feel like you're alone, but still close enough to everything in town. The perfect place for much needed time away from reality. Carl was beyond attentive even for being out of town himself. We'll be looking forward to renting from him again!

private, quiet, well decorated, relaxing

End of the road private, cute little cottage with plenty of room for two to enjoy romance or simply relax. Carl said 'there is plenty of music'..what an understatement! Discovered old vinyl records, cassettes and a lifetime of CDs. Lynn's beautiful photos grace the walls. Yes, the White Peacocks visited.

We loved this place.

Excellent accomodations and terrific landlords.

We thoroughly enjoyed our month at Lynn & Carl's Vintage Florida Cracker House. The cozy cottage was very clean and well stocked with pots, pans, books, music , WIFI, and a variety of premium TV channels via Roku. We enjoyed sunning on the deck and received several visits from a flock of peacocks, an armadillo, a squadron of 4 eagles, ospreys galore and many other birds (bring your binoculars)! The cottage is very private, providing a wonderful getaway for two. We could not have asked for a better introduction to Pine Island.

Lynn and Carl provided many personal touches (wait until you see Lynn's photography, Carl's music collection and Carl even printed out our baseball tickets) that you just won't get at most seasonal rentals. Stay with confidence and enjoy!

Pine Island is old Florida. No high-rises or stop lights here, but lots of things to see and do. While Pine Island offers passive enjoyment and relaxation, it is also a great place for interactivity and exploration.

Enjoy kayaking in the sheltered waters of Matlacha pass in the Pine island Sound Aquatic Preserve, Tarpon Bay in the Ding Darling Preserve, or kayak by the full moon or hit Matlacha at sunset. Since all the guides at Gulf Coast Kayak Company (239-283-1125) are naturalists and kayak instructors, it is the perfect experience for nature-lovers and paddlers.

Camp out at several island facilities or head for the Cayo Costa Island State Park (accessible only by boat). No crowds here and the shelling can be fabulous.

Have a 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' on Cabbage key which inspired the song. Every square inch of the interior is papered with $1 bills and more than $10,000 which fall off every year is donated to charity.

Dig a lost civilization: Join archeologists from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) Museum of Natural History as they excavate or do a Saturday tour of the Randall Research Center (239 283 2062), Pineland and its Calusa Indians settlement, mound and canal system.

Mango Mania: Pine Island is home to the Mango Mania Tropical Fruit Festival every July. The island also commercially grows guavas, longans, lychees, sapodillas, jak fruit and a variety of other rare fruits you can pick up at local fruit stands.

Tour Matlacha: Try the 'fishingest bridge in the world'. Tour the arts and crafts shops and catch local artists at work. This tiny Technicolor village is reminiscent of Key West in the 50's. Fresh seafood right off the boat. Several excellent restaurants.

Great fishing everywhere! Hire a guide for a few days to learn local hotspots, baits and lures, then take off on your own. One of our favorite spots is the Redfish Pass area north of Captiva Island. To the north is Cayo Costa, accessible only by boat with un-crowded white sand beaches, camping ,shelling ,treking and surf fishing.

Some of the best fishing in the world for Trout, Snook, Redfish, Snapper, Cobia, Tarpon, King Mackerel and Grouper. Less than 1/2 hour by water to the Boca Grande Tarpon Tournament.

If you like lure fishing, all the old bass fishing standbys work great. It is always a good idea to drop by a tackle shop and check out the latest hot lure. Shrimp is always good too. They don't have to be live but keep them fresh.
