Awesome, secluded, as non-touristy as it gets!

  • 5 of 5

It's our second year going to this area and using one of "the terri's" properties. Great people!!

You won't find better properties, at better rates, at a better location than you will rt here. We arrived Sunday evening to a quiet, peaceful setting. There are only two houses to the left and two to the rt, and if you're looking for a nice private property on the water - you just found it! The house sits at the end of a street that becomes a nature walk/cart/bike path!.. the other end is a dead end. It's literally a hidden gem!! Yet, it's also just a 4 minute drive to downtown Port St. Joe. So you can get to the grocery store or a nice eatery in 5 minutes - yet still feel completely secluded from the rest of the world. DId I mention heated pool?!? Yep, and it was in good shape when we arrived. A little skimming/cleaning each morning by yourself, and a weekly visit from the pool maintanance guy keep you from any "property/pool" nightmares here. We loved the pool! The water in the bay/ocean was warm.. in mid-October! It sits with a straight out view of the tip of Cape San Blas - with basically what amounts to a half ocean, half bay view and setting. Amazing sunsets!! the first and last nights were the best sunsets I've ever seen, and that's not cliche' - I've been to Florida a lot.. all over.. this is a secret little hiding place of escape. Calm water at the beach. It's also the hot fishing spot for charter boats because of the fishing dock. OUr neighbor was out there every morning and evening for hours having a lot of success catching redfish, catfish, flounder, etc.

Nature lovers will be treated to dolphins, skates/rays and a slew of water fowl.. it wasn't unusual to sit on the beach and have a peaceful, huge Great Blue Heron standing 5 feet from you. It also wasn't unusual to find some bear skat laying around. I wouldn't slip-off too far late at night or let little pups wander(leash law anyway), as this area definitely has a lot of bear activity. Nothing to be scared about. They aren't Grizzlies, and if you don't wander out at 3-4 AM waling the property you won't likely see one.

There's a lot of stair climbing so you'll have to be efficient! Don't forget stuff if going down to the pool or up to the kitchen, or you'll be in for a pretty good workout.

Very few complaints - all minor. Some of the nails on the walkway to the beach need tapped, and some of the dvd players were a little problematic, but overall..AWESOME PROPERTY, AWESOME LOCATION>!

Our favorite beach house!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here multiple times now and love it every time! We love that it is succluded on a dead in street so we never have to fight for a good spot on the beach, in fact the whole week we were there we were the only ones on the beach! Our dog absolutely loves the beach so it's so nice to be able to bring her along and not have to worry about disturbing people on the beach while she plays. Can't beat the views, every morning we saw dolphins right in front of the house. I don't have one negative thing to say about this house and we will be making it a point to come back every year. This is definitely not a "touristy" place but if you love to relax in a secluded environment you will love it here!

Cottage by the Sea

  • 1 of 5

I would not choose this house again there were just too many problems that we had to use our vacation time to wait on repair people to show up for 2 days to check it out. There was either a dead animal or a problem with the sewer gas leaking back into the house. The stinch was gut wrenching. There was something in the second bedroom between the floors trying to chew on something at night. The small pool had yellow mustard algie and the water was not clear. The furniture is very old and used up. Beds have lumps and might be explained away by the home is for sale. The house is just dirty and full of bugs! We rent a water front vacation home every year in Port St Joe, one of our favorite trips. This was not exceptable.

Owner's Response: We are a speechless about this review and have tried contacting the guest since departure, but have had no luck. While occupying the home the guest did indeed contact us about a fowl smell, but nothing else. Within an hour we had the city out to check the septic system with no problem. We then called a plumber who didn't think it was a pipe problem followed by a third person the same day. By the third service person the smell had vanished. After the initial call I only communicated with the husband who said that he thought it was a one time occurrence and possible vent clogged which fixed itself. I personally encouraged the husband to call me back if the smell or any other problems arose. No other problems were brought to our attention. We resolved, or thought we resolved, all issues within 12 hours. Our pools are serviced twice a week. When problems arise between services our pool guys are very prompt, usually before the end of business day of call. The sofas in the living room do indeed need to be replaced and will be as soon as we can find a lift and remove railings to get it to the third floor. The king mattresses were replaced by high end mattresses less than three months ago. We are a small company and are in frequent contact with our guests and cleaners and are personally in our homes every week. Had we known about any additional issues we would have gladly attended to them as we wish all of our guests pleasurable vacations and definitely want all issues resolved as soon as possible. We encourage people to look at reviews on all of our homes.

Perfect place for family time!

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage by the Sea was the perfect place to reconnect with family! The house is perfect for big family meals and games around the table. The beach is very private and the pool is a great place to wind down in the afternoons. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need for cooking for a crowd.

The place to unwind!

  • 4 of 5

Cottage by the Sea is the place to unwind! I picked this spot because I wanted to take my new fishing kayak out in the bay for some exercise and adventure. I rented another ocean kayak from 'No Worries' at Wind Mark Beach for my daughter to tag along with me. We saw so many creatures like rays, horseshoe crabs, starfish and even a couple of small sharks. We paddled a couple of miles each direction in the mornings before the wind picked up. The heated pool was perfect for the kids and me after seeing the sharks :O After a couple of days, we got the hang of the kitchen being on the top floor, and better utilized our trips up and down the steps. I wouldn't change the layout because the view from the top floor was awesome and it was convenient to watch the sunset each night on the covered deck. The small beach area out front was very pretty and wonderfully secluded. It was a short peaceful walk to Wind Mark bike/walking trail and we had fun exploring their unique resort. It was only an hours drive over to Panama City for an afternoon of Coconut Creek putt-putt and grand maze. Plus, we wanted to visit Pier Park too. There are some gift and antique shops in Pt. Saint Joe and Mexico Beach and a variety of places to eat. The internet worked well for our high schoolers, who were somewhat bored, but that is really what we needed.....to unwind.
