Away from the bustle, but close to the action! Let this quaint and historic 2 bedroom home serve as your landing pad for any Portland visit.
Close to Reed College and situated in a sought-after neighborhood, this 2 bedroom home is perfect for vacation or business travelers.
Originally two cabins, later made into one home and kept up lovingly over the decades, the property was just off one of Portland’s streetcar lines which, in 1915, traveled from downtown to “the country”. Old growth trees on the lot still shelter the home and provide a summertime shady oasis. This large private yard has bonfire pit and seating for seasonal outdoor dining.
The Master bedroom has a queen poster bed with memory foam topper and quality pillows and linens. Just off the master is a sunroom with glass walls and ceiling, treadmill and other workout equipment for your use. Enjoy morning yoga while gazing up into the treetops. Step out of the glassroom to have breakfast on the patio.
The smaller guest bedroom has a full sized murphy bed which can be raised to create desk or project space. Just off of the guest room is a sitting nook and desk.
The bathroom, with direct access from the master bedroom, is the perfect place for a long soak with its large clawfoot tub.
The dining room is a charming wood-lined original, and features a gas fireplace. Nicknamed “the hobbit room” this space is perfect for family dinners or relaxed entertaining. Steps from the dining room is the well appointed kitchen.
The living room has a gas fireplace, small television, and library. There is a desk and printer for guest use. Enjoy the owner’s extensive collection of art and cultural artifacts on display.
Off-street parking is available for two cars and street parking is plentiful. Amenities include wi-fi and a washer/dryer.
The neighborhoods of Woodstock and Sellwood are each just over a mile away, and provide boutiquing, antiquing, dining and coffee shop experiences. Sellwood is a fun spot that can be explored on foot and includes excellent bakeries, Asian, Mexican, BBQ and Italian cuisine, as well as a great brew-pub. Public libraries are close by. A guide to the area is available for guests.
The expansive Eastmoreland public golf course, open all year, is less than five minute drive from the house. Concerts and movies are played throughout the summer at neighboring parks. Mt. Scott Community Center is 2 miles away, and features indoor lap and play pools (including a slide, current pool, and hot tub), vintage roller rink, basketball courts, fitness and dance classes, and a full gym.
Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden is an international tourist destination. The garden is near Reed College campus, a good walk or a 5-minute drive by car. The garden is open year round and features walking paths, multiple ponds, and many types of aquatic birds.
Five minutes away by car you'll find Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge with walking and biking paths, and historic Oaks Amusement Park and Roller Rink. A bike path leading from here will take you for miles alongside the Willamette and up to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) and into downtown.
Originally from Minnesota, we live in a small community in Mexico most of the year, but enjoy being in Portland with our two sons, daughter-in-laws and our three grandchildren. We love to travel and usually stay in a VRBO, and so we know what it takes to make it a special experience.

We love the cabin, with its historic feel and solid footing among beautiful trees. We bought it in 2000 to be closer to family and have found it to be the ideal spot. We hope you enjoy!
Sitting in the swing on the front porch, walking in the beautiful surrounding neighborhood, or driving 7 minutes to reach some of the best eatery's in Portland, this home is perfect for any traveler.
Located in Eastmoreland, a highly desirable neighborhood filled with tree-lined streets and well kept homes, yet within two miles of lively areas with botique shopping, fantastic grocery stores, brew-pubs and coffee shops.
