Anchor House is kept traditional as built in the 1880s, the rooms have the traditional privacy curtains on bedroom entries to allow heat to spread evenly around the house from the traditional parlor stove.

Thank you for your review. There is WiFi at Anchor House. If you did not find the instructions and password in the information I am sorry to hear it. If anything is particularly important to you I recommend sending a quick message to the host to check. Cell service is usually good for AT&T and Verizon customers, average for other providers. At Anchor House phones get a signal, but if people go east below the ridge it weakens. Between towns it is minimal in the UP.

Yes, this is an 1870s home kept in traditional style, as described in the description of the home. There is no modern furniture styles in this traditional home.

Thanks for your review. In regards to windows you will find that all the windows on the north (road) side and west side, and the east side of north bedroom have blinds, look up under the curtains. Just pull them on down to give yourself privacy. The only windows that don’t have privacy blinds or curtains are the kitchen windows (bay side) and two little east bedroom windows that are up higher on the walls. As for locks, the front door has a code lock, the sliding door has modern sliding door hardware, the kitchen door has a screen door with a latch and an old fashioned sliding latch. The old sliding latch has been in place for 50 years with no issues. We prefer the old fashioned charm rather than updating things, so although we respect opinions we won’t be updating anytime soon. Grand Marais is a town with 280 permanent residents, many people live with doors open most of the year round. The cabin is on the road to the point/lighthouse. You may get a few cars during the day, 1 or 2 every minute or three in peak season, but at night it slows right down. In the off season there are very few cars that travel the road - maybe one every 3 - 10 minutes. Coast Guard Point Rd is the prime real estate in town. We recommend to guests that they embrace the old fashioned charm if they come stay and relax, the occasional car going past isn’t much interested in who is in the cabin and even if the blinds aren’t down the tint on the windows doesn’t allow any day look inside.

We are so glad you enjoyed Anchor House and Grand Marais and thank you kindly for the review. In one way the carrot peeler is easy to spot but it is easy to look past it. It is one of the decorative items on the wall in the kitchen. Some of the more historical looking kitchen utensils have been put on the wall on hooks. We will put a newer one in the draw, because that is where people would expect to find one. The wall items can then be just decorative. We hope you come back and stay again soon!
