Quite relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We are local and my husband could not wander far from his work for his birthday, so I booked a house boat instead of getting out of town. The location of the house boat was such that we could ride our bikes wherever we wanted to go, be it the center for wooden boats, downtown, or to fisherman's terminal to buy some fresh fish for dinner. There is no WiFi, but we both worked in the main room from our phones as hot spots for most of the morning and it was quite peaceful and light. We then spent the afternoon playing tourist, made dinner back on the boat and watched an old John Wayne movie on the TV. It was much nicer, larger, more convenient, and less expensive than renting a room downtown. If you want a peaceful place, but want to be in town, this is really nice.

Floating house behind fish processing plant

  • 2 of 5

Wish we would have google earthed it on the map prior to booking; it's located in a strange area. No other houses nearby, just a parking lot with a fish processing plant about 20feet away... There's no access to the water from the property. You'd need to drive somewhere else.

Fun house boat in a temporary odd location

  • 3 of 5

We loved staying on the houseboat and watching the river traffic in the morning. However, we arrived late at night and the houseboat was in a temporary location which was behind a fish processing plant which was very strange and very hard to find. Our Uber drivers even commented about the strange location. If it wasn't for the location, we would have given the houseboat 5 stars. The location in the photo is not the boat location.

Great experience, great location, loved it.

Absolutely enjoyed the stay. Very clean and relaxing. Was a bit nervous about the location, but it turned out to be perfect for boat watching. Spent hours just sitting back and enjoying the view.

Sleepless in Seattle Nightmare!

  • 1 of 5

***BEWARE!!*** This property was NOT on Lake Union - as stated. I received a "new location" address on the morning of my arrival. The owner told me it was in a much more "private" location. In fact, it was parked in a commercial marina ILLEGALLY! We had power and water issues both days that we were there, and finally, the owner of the marina told us we had to leave because the houseboat was illegally parked. Finally, I received a message from the owner telling me he had ..."really tried to accommodate [you] and I was not trying to mislead [you.]" This experience doesn't even warrant one star.

Do not book this houseboat

  • 1 of 5

About a week before we were scheduled to arrive I received a message that the houseboat had to be moved from its location on Lake Union in Seattle to a different location at the Seattle Fisherman's Pier due to a broken water line.

My husband and I and our three young boys (8, 5, 3) arrived to find that the houseboat was not located in a typical marina but in a shipyard directly next to the dry docks where big ships were being repaired, in a completely different part of town than what we had booked. We chose to think of it as an adventure, dropped our luggage off and went to explore the area.

When we arrived back at the houseboat, the owner was there replacing the hot water heater which apparently had not been working. We put our three boys to bed, despite the noise, and the owner and his plumber did not leave until after 10:00 pm. Unfortunately the hot water was still not working. The next morning I had to shower at a nearby gym because there still was not hot water.

The owner indicated that he thought the problem might be electrical in nature and he was going to try to get an electrician out to fix the issue. Communication during the day was minimal, and no one showed up to fix the electrical issue until 7:30 pm when our boys were once again going to bed. The owner and the electrician were at the houseboat until after 11:00 pm attempting to fix the issue, still with no luck. That night we decided that we could not stay any longer without hot water. Our boys had not bathed the whole time we were there and we could not tolerate another night of 5 hours of sleep.

The next morning we packed up to leave (after once again visiting a local gym to shower). As we were leaving, we were approached by a shipyard employee who asked us to leave and told us that under no circumstances was anyone allowed to be staying on board the boats at the shipyard as it is dangerous and their insurance does not cover the liability of people staying on board the boats that are there to be fixed. She told us that the houseboat we were on had been taken there to be painted and accused us of trespassing. We had to find a hotel for what should have been our last night on the houseboat as a result of the negligence and/or deceit of the owner. He put us and our three small children in a situation that was not safe. This was without a doubt the worst accommodation situation we have had in many years of traveling.
