'Les Poiriers' is a pretty, stone house set in a hamlet, whose French doors lead out onto the large garden, which has far-reaching views over the beautiful countryside of Limousin. Combining traditional features and modern facilities, the property provides the perfect haven for relaxation. The downstairs open-plan living area features an old bread oven, exposed stone wall, beams and woodburner alongside all the modern facilities to make your holiday comfortable. Upstairs are 3 bright bedrooms with original beams and a modern bathroom. Outside is perfect for unwinding over a glass of wine and barbecue, or snoozing in the hammock while the children play in the garden. Above-ground pool with decking available from mid-June until September. There is something for everyone in the area, from having a long lunch at a local restaurant to being pulled behind a speedboat on an inflatable; from exploring the countryside on foot or bike to picnicking by the river; from horse-riding through woodland to sunbathing on a beach.

About Wendy Atkinson
We are a couple in our 40s from Yorkshire, with 2 daughters aged 12 and 14. I am a teacher and my husband is a sales rep. We have a dream to move to France one day! Our daughters have agreed to come with us as long as they can have horses, goats, pigs, hens, several dogs etc! We were handed the keys to 'Les Poiriers' (The Pear Trees) in December 2007, and we have memories of a freezing night spent on a hard floor with the sleeping bag tied tightly over our heads - the longest night of our life!
Wendy Atkinson purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Wendy Atkinson chose Fresselines
Fortunately a lot has changed since then - we now have heating, furniture... and even bedrooms! We bought our house on our first ever visit to the Limousin. We had singled out the area partly because there were flights from convenient airports and partly because we yearned for 'the good life', and the Creuse certainly had plenty of scope for that. We didn't know what to expect but fell in love straight away. We were amazed at how much there is to do and see for all tastes and ages, from having a picnic by the river to being dragged behind a speed boat on an inflatable seat! From going for an evening walk from your doorstep to getting lost in a giant maze. From exploring pretty towns to playing on the beach.
What makes this Cottage unique
It is a cliche but 'Les Poiriers' really is a home from home. It is cosy, comfortable but stylish (we hope!) and despite the wealth of activities and attractions being so accessible, we sometimes find it hard to drag ourselves away from 'home', where we can happily waste hours pottering, watching the children play from the comfort of the hammock and admiring the views from the garden, muttering 'We could never have this in England -when are we moving?'

Excellent Holiday Home
We have recently returned from our stay in France where we stayed for 1 week in this delightful cottage.
It had everything we needed for a relaxing stay.
The pool and outside area are great and a real sun trap. Most days the temp was around 38 deg, so the pool got a lot of use.
It is in a very rural area so we needed to use a little of the French we know.
The inside space is open and a great place to relax in the evening once the sun has gone down.
the local area is beautiful with lots to see and do.
I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a quiet relaxing holiday.
WIFI would be nice, just to keep the kids quiet.
Superb holiday Gite
Just spent 4 weeks staying in this wonderful holiday Gite. The facilities way out did our expectations and housed 8 people comfortably. The grounds are exceptionally big with a lovely pool that Tony, the Gite manager, came regularly to check and help maintain.
The Gite has patio doors that open onto a lovely patio area that is shaded by a chestnut tree. This we found was perfect to sit, dine and drink wine with our friends and family late into the evenings.
We would certainly recommend this property to anyone who wants a holiday that is relaxing and carefree.
Peace and tranquility in the heart of France
We stayed for 3 weeks and our stay was totally as we expected it, from what we had read and seen in the details. The house is set up perfectly for families and those wanting to get away from it all. Plenty to do at the house, as there is an enormous garden and adequate pool, with games and toys to play with. The built in BBQ was frequently used. The house is comfortable with good facilities. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, lots of pretty villages, with the nearby Fressilines being attractive enough for Claude Monet to stay in and paint the nearby River Creuse. The owners were very helpful and answered any questions we had and the property manager Tony, was on hand to provide plenty of local knowledge. Thanks for a much needed break!
Lovely cottage with large garden.
Le Poiriers has everything needed for a peaceful relaxing stay.
A nice well equipped cottage with the benefit of a big safe garden for families with children.
A great area to explore and taste the local food and wine.
Tony the key holder made us feel very welcome and is a superb host.
We drove from the UK and the directions given by Wendy were easy to follow, no need for a satnav :)
We are happy to recommend the cottage to anyone, from family to those looking for peace & relaxation and those seeking to explore the French country side.
5 star experience thank you. :)
We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. Extended family (10 of us!) and there was plenty to do. The kids enjoyed the lake nearby and the oldies enjoyed being in 'proper France'
Nice family accommodation, peaceful
Really decent accommodation, tons of space and good facilities. Large garden, good pool, lovely and peaceful. Good quiet roads surrounding for morning runs and evening walks. Lots of great advice and assistance from Tony, who looks after the property. Some lovely lakes, towns and things to do. Had a great week. Thanks.
The house is within 10 minutes drive of Fougeres beach on the Lac d'Eguzon. Here there is safe swimming and a couple of places to eat. There is a free boat to the other shore, the Plage de Chambon, where there is a sandy beach, water sports, restaurants. Montcocu, at 15 mins drive, offers a charming setting for bathing, walking and has a bar/restaurant. The 'Trois Lacs' area offers further swimming opportunities. The Lac de Vassiviere at 1hr 15 has beaches, pedaloes, boat trips and restaurants.
Nearest airport Limoges at 1hr 15 mins. Departures with Ryanair or Flybe from Stansted, Bristol, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle or Southampton. 6 hours drive from Calais. Car recommended. If you don't want to bring the car, we can arrange transport to and from the airport (extra charge applies).
Country walks from the doorstep. Local facilities including boulangerie with small grocery section, bar, restaurant, art galleries 5-10 mins drive in lovely village of Fresselines (4.5km) with riverside walk. Full supermarket facilities within 20 mins drive at Eguzon or Dun le Palestel. Lake at 10 mins drive. Ruins and lake/river in Crozant 10 mins drive. Pretty towns of Gargilesse and La Celle Dunoise in '3 Lacs' area 20 mins drive. City of Limoges 1hr 15. Lac de Vassiviere 1hr15 mins drive.
The gite is situated in idyllic countryside on the Creuse/Indre border. The area is characterised by rolling fields dotted with lakes, rivers, woodland and villages and towns featuring the attractive stone typical of the region. We feel that it has something to offer for all ages. The lakes and rivers offer a range of leisure activities including sunbathing and swimming, boat hire and trips, water-skiing and 'flying fish'. Other attractions include a 'tree to tree' adventure park, the 'velorail', a wolf park and a giant maze. There is lots on offer for walkers all year round, with marked footpaths (maps provided at the house) and plentiful wildlife to spot including birds of prey, deer, red squirrels and badgers. The efficient woodburner and electric blankets ensure that you keep cosy during the colder months. Assistance with obtaining fishing licences can be arranged. For those feeling less energetic, we would recommend visiting one of the wealth of charming towns, with their ubiquitous patissseries and restaurants, or a gentle walk along a river or shady woodland path. Alternatively, you may simply want to stay at home and make use of the garden, pool and barbecue!
