Now booking to families for spring, summer, and early fall season.
Hartland Pond (Pinehurst Lake) is a private community of 35 cottages on a small private lake approximately one quarter of a mile across. The water quality is a high rate in the State; clear and clean. Swimming, canoeing and fishing are all excellent (small mouth and large mouth bass). There is a private tennis court and many miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The lake sits in the middle of a water district property and state forest, and is truly hidden away.
The 'cottage' is actually a large summer home built in 1946 with a large stone fireplace, and is a three season home from June -early October. The cottage is not insulated or has central heating. Wood is provided to use in the fireplace. There is a large screened-in porch within 50 ft of the water, a large (20 X 20) dock for swimming and a large canoe for paddling and fishing with a wonderful beach and float directly across the lake.
This is a gated, private, family-oriented lake community, very quiet, no motorized craft of any kind allowed . A resident State of CT Police is our private security. The house is 10 minutes from the Farmington River, the premier trout fishing river in Connecticut with trophy trout up to eight pounds and fish management areas for the fly fisherman.
There are well marked walking trails for enjoyment.
Families only, no singles and no party groups. No pets, parties, or noise allowed.

About Ann LaCroix .... alacroix at comcast dot net
My Grandparents built this family vacation home in 1946 and it has been in our family ever since. Our family grew up here as children, and it has changed very little. Due to rising waterfront taxes we are selectively renting to qualified family groups to supplement the cost of ownership. This is our home for part of the year, and is not your typical income-rental property. We ask that you treat it as carefully as you would your own home. We pride ourselves on keeping the house and property well maintained and in excellent condition.

What makes this Cottage unique
The lake Association was formed in 1929, and most buildings were completed in the 1940's. A limit of 35 homes was set then and still applies. The Pinehurst Lake Association owns 600 acres around the lake. Since that time the State of CT has acquired land around us and has established a State Forest and Water District Property surrounding the lake that will never be developed. The result is a unique piece of history tucked away in a heavily forested part of CT that has not changed in 70 years.

Perfect end to the summer!
My husband and I were joined by our children and their families to this wonderful summer home. There was plenty of room for everyone and the lake was just steps away. It was a wonderful week to reboot without the gadgets and distractions. We could have all spent the entire week on the screened in porch overlooking the lake - perfect. Hiking, bike paths, and golf were close by and Six Flags was an added bonus for the older children. The days were topped off with sunsets on the dock.
It was a wonderful week of reconnecting and spending time with our family. Definitely will return.
I hate to say anything nice about this place, because I'd like to have it all to myself as often as I can. In July, 2017, we spent our vacation at this Hartland Pond cottage for the third time. We'll be back if the owners will have us! I grew up going to a cottage on a pond in the summertime. This place is better than my memories. It is sooo relaxing. It is so peaceful. No noisy boat motors. We are occupied every day with healthy walks, swimming, fishing, canoeing, picking blueberries, playing bocce ball or tennis, biking, hiking or just exercising along the camp road which encircles the pond. Occasionally, we ventured out to nearby Riverton, where the General Store offers great breakfast sandwiches and other fare, and where Sweet Pea's provides delicious meals. But mostly, we just enjoyed the outdoors as well as the cottage - meals and reading on the screened-in porch, board games on the massive table in the great room, and catching up on our sleep in comfortable beds galore! I'm already longing to return.
Thank you for taking such good care of our home. We SO appreciate it.
Thank you for the review!
My family, comprised of my 81 year old father (from Minnesota), siblings and their families (from Minnesota and Arizona), and my husband and I rented this big, beautiful lodge-like cottage for two weeks at the end of June. For the most part we had nine people, but for one weekend we had another large contingency come in and there was plenty of room. It was spacious, warm, perfectly clean, and very groovy. The second floor gives tons of privacy. The outdoor shower was fantastic! We like things that are not new and fancy. We are from the North Country and like a rustic, old fashioned vacation. Seriously, this place could not have been more perfect. The kitchen was very well equipped (the sink was fantastic). With two large tables, one in the main room, one on the majestic screened porch, eating with a large group was easy.
Additionally, the lake was so quiet, we felt like it was our private lake. Of course, it wasn't, as there are about 35 folks on the lake. But it's a peaceful place, without the music blaring and jet skis jarring one out of quietude. We were thrilled. The kids had a great time swimming at the beach across the lake, but just a short canoe ride or walk around the lake. My sister and I swam every single day, and many days across the lake (no motors=no fear).
My dad likes to tool around in the car and explore the environs, so we had a blast going on day trips to Winsted (great thrift stores!), Great Barrington, Farmington. The landscape was a pleasant surprise to everyone; the mountains and streams, and historical sights, brought a nice dimension to the trip.
If you want old-timey, rent this place. I shed real tears when we had to go back to our apartment in New York City.
Thank you for the great review. We hope you will rent our home again next year.
Wonderful and relaxing get away!
We absolutely loved this house! The house was clean and large, with plenty of room for our big family. The view from the porch is lovely, and the pond was fantastic for swimming, boating, and fishing. We especially loved the peace and quiet, it was incredibly relaxing. Thanks so much!
This stay was our second visit to this peaceful cottage on the lake. The first time was for a family wedding at the lake, and it was a bit hectic. This time around, it was to relax and enjoy what this lake community has to offer. We could not have had a better time. This is a wholesome experience, where you see your young children learn how to paddle a canoe, fish, jump off the raft at the beach and swim to shore, and hike the trail to the Hogback Reservoir overlook. We picked blueberries, which are abundant in the field next to the clay tennis court and bocce ball court. And, yes, we played tennis and bocce ball, for which the equipment is stored right next to the court. A jog around the lake - mostly on the camp road - is a must after all of the dinners which just seem to taste better at the lake. We were so active during the day, that we almost didn't notice that there is a nice flat-screen television in the cottage, which did provide a movie night for the young ones one night. Finally, there is a nice selection of board games, and our Monopoly game lasted three nights. All of us cannot wait to go back.
Just as advertised...clean...away from it all, beautiful lake...great swimming and fishing
sunbathing on the dock, canoeing, RELAXING !! This is 'in the woods'...not a party place, but a unique quiet gem that feels like it's in Alaska or Canada.
