Casa Mambo is our newest rental and was our home for the last decade. This three bedroom house has many unique features including a spiral staircase made of three different tropical hardwoods and a shower with exquisite mosaic tile art that expresses the true beauty of your natural surroundings. The house is full of detailed woodworking with much of the lumber harvested right here on our farm.
Casa Mambo is situated in the middle of our 8 acres of spectacular garden we developed over the last 19 years, further surrounded by many shades of lush green forest and fruit trees. Kick back, relax and enjoy the mesmerizing view from the finely crafted deck and enjoy the many different birds and wildlife. The house has a large living room and dining room/kitchen attached to the deck, which makes it all the more enjoyable for families or groups of friends.
There are two bedrooms with queen size beds and one with two singles which can sleep up to 6 persons total. The upstairs master bedroom has its own private half bath. All the bedrooms have fans and mosquito nets for each bed. Staying here in the middle of our tropical paradise is like dancing the Mambo. Hence the name!
The house is equipped with high speed wireless internet throughout for our guests. Just bring your laptop and you're connected to cyber space!
Of course our newly added salt water swimming pool is very popular with our guests. Three generations from one family were our first guests to take a refreshing dip and hang out poolside.
PURA VIDA! COSTA RICA CARIBBEAN WOW!!!
Keywords: House, rainforest family home also for great for groups of friends
We bought 8 acres of this beautiful land 22 years ago and moved here to Costa Rica in 1994. Puerto Viejo is a charming little town and we fell in love with it immediately. Its spectacular beauty speaks for itself.
This house sits in the middle of a garden we've been developing for over 20 years. Everywhere you look you see fruit trees, ornamental plants and lush green jungle. Birds and wildlife abound. It's close to town, but totally secluded with a feeling of privacy seldom experienced in a rental.
We stayed at Finca Loco Natural for ten days in March 2017. We rented Casa Mambo, the three bedroom two bathroom house on the property. Everything about the little house was perfect, from the outdoor shower (imagine having a shower outside while someone on a neighbouring property plays the saxophone), to the open living room with the hammocks, to the excellent wifi and the beautiful wood and tile work that is everywhere you look.
Finca Loco Natural is incredible. We woke up each morning to the sound of howler monkeys in the trees above us, and went to bed each night listening to the crazy sounds of the jungle and watching the bats and the fireflies. (Note to very light sleepers, you might want to bring earplugs! My son found that he needed them, as the jungle never truly sleeps). Twice we saw sloths on the property, once was a momma with a baby just a stones throw from where we relaxed in the pool. We saw toucans, and agoutis, and snakes and spiders and butterflies and birds and frogs and ants. It was like living in a nature documentary.
Pamela and Carter are great hosts, always around if you need them but never intrusive. They have an assortment of friendly dogs who occasionally pop by to say hi as well. Carter plays in a local band, and we spent a couple of very enjoyable evenings listening to him play. Pamela teaches yoga and offers massage and healing treatments, and my only regret from this whole trip is that I kept putting off booking some time with her, and then my days run out and I was packing to go! They are very kind, knowledgeable people and they were a huge help with things like renting bicycles and sorting out seafood restaurants, grocery shopping and things like where to snorkel.
The casa has everything you need to make simple meals in the open kitchen. My favorite was getting up very early to Costa Rican coffee and avocado toast on the deck. The opportunity to sit and watch and listen to the jungle wake up was brilliant, and I have been missing it ever since I come home.
Playa Negra, the black sand beach, is only a few minutes walk down a country road, and also very close by is a little general store and a Beach Sports bar. A fifteen minute walk down the beach and you are in Puerto Viejo, which is this crazy groovy laid back funky little town and worthy of it’s own review! We had rented a car in San Jose, so we managed to see a lot of the surrounding area, and it was so nice at the end of a hot day to return to our quie
We had trouble finding the house, and we would recommend Pamela and Carter to send the guest a map that shows where to pull off the road as in the dark it was impossible to find.
When we came to the house Carter showed us around and we thought this was really exotic comming from Scandinavia. The house is great. It is open and of very good quality.
We had some really heavy rainshowers and thunder wich took the internet, but we were dry and I enjoyed the rain hammering on the roof.
The bathroom is open and it took us some days to get used to that, but what an experience. We loved it.
We never cooked in the house as there were ants as soon as something eatable was on the table. What we thought could be better was that we could have got access to clean towels everyday as they never dryed. We only got one per person when we arrived. (was changed during the week). If we showered in the evening the towels was just as wet as in the morning, because of the humidity.
The pool was great and we really enjoyed it. Some days it was nice just being around the house and then the pool was amazing.
Pamela showed me around the garden and told me about every plant that was growing there and the animals which could be seen. Very interesting! We went to town one evening to see Carter and his band play and that was really cool.
We enjoyed our stay in this house, but we all agreed that we could not live here forever, because of the insects, animals and the humidity, but for a vacation it was perfect. We made memories for a lifetime!
We absolutely loved staying here! It was perfect for our honeymoon getaway. Pamela was very friendly and helpful to us. Such a beautiful house and a gorgeous yard! If you didnt go to the beach, the private pool was also a great place to relax and stay cool. It was a great vacation to get away, you experienced the jungle out you're front door!
Beautifully groomed piece of land and cabins by two friendly owners.
Lovely salt pool to cool down on those very humid CR days.
Would highly recommend to families, or couples or small quiet groups of friends looking for a place where you can be autonomous, with a perfect distance from more bustling village of Puerto Viejo.
Carter is a musician and has a local band that plays in town. Pamela gives yoga classes. They helped us with a "lost and found at airport" baggage situation, taking calls and greeting driver. Dogs are very quiet, chase after animals that visit.
7 minute walk to the beach, 25 minute walk to town.
Fast Wi-fi station inside our cabin, water just warm enough in the outdoor shower, fully functional kitchen.
Litchis, limes and more in the garden.
What more to say? Pura Vida !
Hope I can come back some day.
Finca Loco Natural is good livin’. The grounds are gorgeous, a combination of the surrounding jungle life and the beautiful tropical plants that Pamela and Carter have planted over the years. And Casa Mambo, simple and beautiful, is one of my all-time favorite houses. Frank Lloyd Wright strove to bring nature into his buildings, but he’s got nothin’ on Casa Mambo. Its open plan means that when you’re sitting at the dining room table, cooking in the kitchen, or taking a shower, you’re comfortably indoors while still feeling the breeze and taking in the sights and smells of the jungle. Hummingbirds and dragonflies feel free to drop by to say hello at breakfast.
The finca is in the rainforest, near where it meets the Caribbean. Howler monkeys range the area, and as the days and weeks pass you can track their progress. Some mornings you can barely hear them, and at other times you can see them in the trees right on the property. Sloths prowl the finca – we saw five in the trees surrounding the pool one afternoon. On other days we’ve seen them on the ground walking between trees. Toucans are regular visitors, and for a while we had giant flocks of parrots on their way from somewhere to somewhere else.
Carter and Pamela are great people and excellent hosts and neighbors. They’ve carved a little paradise out of the jungle and built a few extra houses so that others can enjoy it too.
I loved staying at Finca Loco Natural! It was so beautifully tucked in the jungle, but close enough to the ocean I could still here the waves. The house is clean, the salt water pool is lovely, and Pamela and Cartier live on site and our so present and willing to help meet your needs. Love, love, love staying here!
A walk through our nature trail down to the creek and upstream to a beautiful little waterfall. Canopy Tour, and Live Music!
