About this property

Threshing Barn, dogs welcome, allocated parking, heart of Torquay, Award Winning

Set in its own conservation area in Barton, one of the historic villages that make up the popular seaside town of Torquay, South Devon; Threshing Barn is a magnificent, spacious, 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom restored barn tucked away behind the 15th Century Devon longhouse, 'The Old Manor Farmhouse' that can comfortably sleep up to 8 plus infants.

Together with Honeysuckle (2bed) and Sweet Rose (1bed), the 3 form ’Pilgrims Rest Cottages’; multi-award-winning, including ‘Most Pet Friendly’, that have been welcoming guests since 2009.

With countryside to the north, the coast to the east and all that Torquay, The English Riviera, and its nearby surrounds have to offer, historical guests have found it to be an ideal location for their stay – with the local shops, a stroll away, an added bonus. Martin and Kim (the owners) personal information folders, revealing countless gems in the area (walks, eateries, pubs, attractions, beaches…), enhance guests’ stays further.

Brimming with quality “cosy, spacious, well-equipped, peaceful, delighted, spot-on or great location” are just some adjectives used by guests for Threshing Barn, whether couples, smaller parties, extended families, or friends together on their holiday, with or without their four-legged friends.

Parking and Property
From your allocated, off lane, parking for 1 car (with extra parking available on the lane alongside Pilgrims Rest), you will walk down a path through two white picket gates into the barns’ courtyard with white bistro tables and chairs, and ornate plant pots. Threshing Barn is the first property on your right with its large glass door.

Upon entering the property, you will be met with a spacious open plan lounge / dining room and kitchen; all decorated in warm colours, exposed beams, and oak pillars. In addition, there is also a very handy ground floor bathroom with shower, and utility room.

Up a set of historical, newel, spiral stairs, you will discover 4 well-appointed bedrooms and 2 additional bathrooms set into the exposed beams of this converted barn.

Pilgrims Pooches
Dogs are an important part of Pilgrims Rest Cottages and are very welcome with Pilgrims Rest Cottages an historical winner of the best dog friendly business on the English Riviera and South Devon.

The owners have dogs themselves, and over the years where annoyed at large extras for their dogs. They have, over the last 14 years, worked on a ‘Dog Free’ policy, asking owners to follow some basic rules, which to date have been fine with guests and enabling that policy to continue.

The Pilgrims Pooch rules include:
- Not letting your dog go upstairs in the bedrooms.
- Not letting you dog go on any furniture (if dog throws are brought, there can be
exceptions, but must be agreed at booking)
- Not leaving your dog home alone unless by prior agreement and discussion at
booking (the owners know that many dogs are fine on their own, and allow some
leeway here)
- Do not leave their dog to roam alone outside; being respectful of others who may be
staying at Pilgrims Rest
- Finally, as always pet owners are required to clean up after their pets and dispose of
pet mess in the bins provider in the car park.
- We do require a £50 refundable pet deposit which is refunded within 7 days after
departure with the approval of the cleaning team.
- Vacuum cleaners are provided to help, in each property.

Great accomodation for up to 8
The Old Threshing Barn is great accomodation for up to 8 people. IT is very comfortable and there is lots of room to spread out in the lounge, dining room and kitchen areas and 3 bathrooms, so less of a wait to get out in the morning. The kitchen is very well equiped for catering for a larger gathering with lots of large saucepans, serving dishes, etc. There is also WiFi and a large Smart TV with the possibility of logging in to your netflix, iPlayer, etc. There are some great local shops very close (a Tesco Express, a CoOp, a bakers and a chemist). A bigger ASDA and a big Sainsburys are a short car ride away. There is a bus that goes into Torquay or a short car ride. There are many things to do and see in the surrounding area. Just be aware that the spiral staircase takes a little getting used to and that there is a short walk from the car park. Martin and Kim and family were very welcoming and very helpful. In particular, they kindly did some research for us and found lots of restuarants and cafes providing gluten free food.

We are Saltwater Escapes, a family run business offering beautiful holiday cottages and apartments across South Devon. We love that Saltwater Escapes' properties have become a home from home for many of our customers who have stayed with us year after year and are making traditions of their own and memories to treasure.

We love partnering with holiday owners in this hidden gem of the UK. Pilgrims Rest Cottages is a fantastic example of this. Proud owners Martin and Kim restored the cottages and have been welcoming guests since 2009. Since then they've picked up multiple awards but still have the same passion and drive to deliver an exceptional guest experience. We are delighted to bring these 3 fabulous cottages to VRBO and add them to the Saltwater Escapes collection.

Why they chose this property

*THRESHING BARN - SLEEPS 8 PEOPLE + INFANT, DOG FRIENDLY*

Threshing Barn is one of three award winning barns at Pilgrims Rest. This magnificent 4-bedroom barn is brimming with quality and has been designed for comfort and flexibility, comfortably accommodating up to 8 adults plus infants.

At the heart of this barn is the large downstairs level where space and comfort abound. Featuring a large open plan kitchen/dining area, and a beautifully finished lounge, the warm colour schemes and wonderful exposed oak creates the perfect setting for relaxed family get togethers or special occasions.

Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms (two super-king, one king and twin beds) and 2 bathrooms. A further downstairs shower room means there's no queuing in the mornings!

Please note that upstairs is accessed via a spiral stair case, with stair gates at both the top and bottom. The stairs may be challenging for those with mobility issues. For any questions or concerns around accessibility, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Threshing Barn makes the perfect choice for families and friends holidaying together and has been described by past guests as “cosy, spacious, well-equipped and peaceful”.

What makes this property unique

Rated by English Heritage of National Importance, these cottages are the only ones of their type found within Torquay. Dating back to the 15th century with links to the Spanish Armada and the Prince of Orange, now loving restored with historical roots but filled with modern day luxuries. To stay in such a place, yet have access to excellent local shops within a stroll, beaches, countryside and all that Torquay and surrounding villages offer, is brilliant.
