About this property

Converted barn in small commune in rolling countryside

We offer spacious living accommodation in our converted barn surrounded by vineyards and farmland where you can walk for miles or cycle along the quiet country roads.
It is a 10 minute drive from the A10 motorway at Mirambeau where there is a good supermarket.
Approx 45 minutes' drive down the motorway will take you to one of the park and ride sites where you can get a tram into Bordeaux. The Cité du Vin is a good place to visit for those wanting to learn more about the history of wine.
Vitrezay Pole Nature on the shore of the Gironde is about a 7 minute drive away and you can book a cruise up or down the river from here. There is also a snack bar and restaurant on site and views across to the Médoc.
The World Heritage Site of the "Citadelle de Vauban 1689" in Blaye is approx 30 minutes' drive away. From here you can take the short ferry trip across the Gironde to the Médoc and discover some of the most famous vineyards in the world and visit the sandy beaches on the west coast.

Wonderful!
We had a truly wondeful time at your lovely barn - thank you Nick! Everything we needed for our stay was at hand and there's a huge amount to see and do in the area with nothing more than an hours drive away.

We are a retired couple who bought a derelict farmhouse/barn and restored it. Our main home is in south west London and we use the house as a holiday home out of season. Our upstairs wing is locked during rental periods.

Why they chose this property

We love the diversity of the area with undulating countryside, vineyards, fields of sunflowers, woodland and much more.
Our nearest town is Mirambeau, a 10 minute drive away, and the SuperU supermarket stocks pretty well everything.
Going north the nearest beach is at Meschers-sur-Gironde (approx 40 minute drive), a little further on is Royan and then the fabulous beaches of the Cote Sauvage. Just south of Meschers is the historic fishing village of Talmont-sur-Gironde with the church of St Radegonde built in 1084.
Travelling west through St Bonnet you get to the Nature Reserve at Port Vitrezay where you can walk round the lakes, cycle round the16km of trails, take a boat trip up or down the Gironde or just enjoy a coffee or meal in the restaurant.
30 minutes south of us is the town of Blaye where you can find the Citadel which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. The town itself holds twice-weekly outdoor markets which are the best in the area.
The historic town of Jonzac is a 20 minute drive to the east with bigger supermarkets and a twice weekly indoor market. There are also shops, a castle, restaurants and an indoor water park (les Antilles de Jonzac) and a train station.
For a full day out, Bordeaux is 70km away and is well worth a visit. Trains go from Jonzac or you can drive to the outskirts and catch a tram to the centre. For all wine lovers a visit to the Cité du Vin museum is a must.
