The iconic former fishing village of San Stefanos with its distinctive horseshoe-shaped bay and laid-back Mediterranean ambience is one of the most scenic and sought after locations on Corfu. Enviably located on the hillside just above the bay, Ioanna makes a wonderful base from which to discover the many delights this celebrated North-Eastern corner of the island has to offer.
Sympathetically in keeping with the property’s semi-pastoral surroundings, a façade of light green edged with local sandstone welcomes you on arrival. Take a moment perhaps, to admire the views directly across the turquoise Ionian Sea to Albania, before stepping inside where you will find an appealing combination of traditional Greek design decorated, furnished and styled with a tangible contemporary twist.
A well-appointed kitchen sits to one side of the open plan ground floor while two sets of French doors in the living/dining area not only provide easy access to the spacious part-shaded terrace but also invite the lovely sea and coastal views to become part of the décor. All three of the comfortable bedrooms have their own individual en suite facilities and two have exterior access to either a terrace or balcony.
Do explore this lovely area. Several of Corfu’s best cove beaches are within easy distance (Avlaki is little more than a five minute drive, Kerasia about 12 minutes) while the Eremetis Nature Reserve (1km), vibrant Kassiopi (6km), the Byzantine ruins of Perithia (16km) or even a day trip across to Albania are just some of the local attractions meriting attention.
But you will surely not wish to stray too far from San Stefanos itself. Just 1.5 km downhill, the village has a minimarket, coffee shop, bars, boat hire and a little crescent of white shoreline ideal for a refreshing dip in the sea, perhaps as a prelude to enjoying a drink or meal in one of the charming waterside tavernas where the convivial, candle lit evening atmosphere could not be more quintessentially Greek.
