About this property

The Longhouse - a house that sleeps 8 guests in 4 bedrooms

NEW TO OUR PORTFOLIO WITH AVAILABILITY THROUGHOUT 2024

The Longhouse replicates the much-loved traditional west coast Longhouse. This modern version with the fully glazed side of the open plan living area creates a wonderful relaxing and light space with commanding views across open countryside to the south with Begairn and Screel hills on the horizon. To the rear of the property you will find Bramble and Bumblebee in the paddock, the owners Shetland ponies. You are welcome to say hello, but please do not feed them.

Although in a rural location, The Longhouse is less than a 5-minute drive from Castle Douglas. The small, rural market town is known as the ‘Food Town' offering a wide range of amenities. These include a range of interesting independent shops, art galleries, a community run theatre which doubles as a cinema, cafes, restaurants & pubs, a swimming pool, a 9-hole golf course, and a small independent brewery.

The Longhouse is centrally located in the superb outstanding scenic area of South West Scotland including the Solway Coast making it perfect for enjoying the outstanding sandy beaches and cliff top walks within a 20-minute drive. Water sports are available on the Solway and also on nearby Loch Ken at the Galloway Activity Centre. Fishing is available locally, whether it be Game, Course or Sea fishing. The National Trust for Scotland's Threave Estate is on the doorstep where the House and surrounding gardens offer an oasis of tranquillity. The Estate offers the chance to see Ospreys at work in the summer months and Threave Castle which is located on an island surrounded by the river Dee. For the naturalist there are a number of Core Paths around Threave Estate which offer fascinating views of the surrounding countryside and wetlands, with the Red Kite Trail also close to the town and slightly further afield are the nationally important wildfowl reserves of Mersehead and Caerlaverock.

With this being Scotland, golf is never far away and numerous 18-hole courses are within easy reach including the challenging Southerness links course. Sections of the Forestry Scotland 7 Stanes Mountain Bike Trails are easily accessible, the nearest being in Dalbeattie, with Kirroughtree near Newton Stewart and both Ae and Mabie near Dumfries within an easy Drive. Nearby Kirkcudbright is

Family Celebration
A great accommodation for what we needed it for. A 60th family celebration. House was really clean, beds comfortable and felt the house was spacious and loved the open plan feel of the downstairs. Patio area great, hot tub great. All the family loved it. And it was compounded by the weather being sunny. Didn't manage to get around the area aswe wanted to use the property facilities.
