The house is unique and decorated with art, statues and antiques from the Hudson Valley area. The foyer of the house contains paintings by Mrs. Barbara Lebhar whose work reflects the Hudson Valley School of artists. She was a student of the famous Hongnian Zhang, a Chinese American oil painter who works in the western academic tradition and a Woodstock legend.

In the dining room, or the green room as the owner’s call it, Mrs. Lebhar’s oil paintings capture the beauty of the magnificent Catskill Mountains, the reservoir and surrounding Catskill region. There are also several oil paintings by her sister A.J. Maloney who also studied under Zhang. The living room, or the nautical room, as the owners have lovingly named it, contains a number of accessories from the Catskill region. On the mantel are two lanterns that were once part of the Riverside Estate on the Hudson. The two Persian rugs are also from the mansion. There is a ship’s weight table lamp by famous designer Frank Schwind who was a commercial interior designer. He designed garment showrooms for Valentino and Ellen Tracy. He designed “Sweet Endings” and Papagallo Ice Parlor in Woodstock, New York.

Two of the upstairs bedrooms are furnished by twin beds and a double bed dated to the late 1700’s. These were also from the Riverside Estate on the Hudson River. The large modern art in the two front bedrooms and the hallway are from local Woodstock artist September Heart. She is featured in the 1969 Woodstock Calendar. Her featured painting in the calendar hangs on the wall in the master bedroom and the calendar is displayed on the tall chest of drawers.. The artist states “In 2000, I began painting in the en caustic medium, creating an optical depth and dimension that could not be achieved any other way. Recently, I took my smaller mixed-media, collage and en caustics to a much larger scale, utilizing the Archival printing process. I embellish the print on the canvas with acrylic paint. This transformation into a scale of up to 6x9 feet has given me a new perspective and new inspiration.” THer\

In the kitchen there is a cannon ball retrieved from the Hurley flats. There are also a tool sharpener and coffee grinder from the Riverside Estate on the Hudson River. The antique farm table in the kitchen is from the Brink Farm House in Hurley.

With direct access to acres of wilderness and proximity to the avant-garde culture of the nearby villages, this mountain getaway home is a perfect way to relax, have fun, and enjoy the company of friends and family.

Excellent stay
My group had a great stay here, except for the roosters next door which woke most of us up between 4 and 5am. Kim gave us some great tips on restaurants and things to do in the area. Thank you for a lovely weekend!

Perfect for NYS&W
A group of us stayed here to take advantage of the large # of beds and the proximity to New York Sheep & Wool. It was perfect for what we needed and we all had an amazing weekend in the house.

Lovely upstate stay.
Kim’s house was very spacious and had everything we needed for a weekend getaway with five adults. We particularly enjoyed being able to use the outdoor fire pit as well as indoor fireplace and wood stove. Very cozy! The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to cook meals, and there was ample space indoors and out for gathering together.

Family get together in the Hudson Vallry
Spacious home for 6 adults. Lots of room to spread out. The family room with wood stove was enjoyed by all of us. And we made our Thanksgiving dinner together. On Friday and Saturday, we had time to visit Rhinebeck and Saugerties and do some hiking on nearby trails. Good location, great option for adult group.

This is a current picture of Kim and I am the property manager for Mountain Retreat. The house is owned by my brother and sister in law who live in San Antonio. They spend part of the year in the local area. My husbands family grew up in Old Hurley and the stone house they grew up in are still there today. My family grew up on Morgan Hill and I still live there. We hope you will enjoy Mountain Retreat as much as we do. Oh and Stella is my Grand-Dog!
