About this property

Cedar Suite: Mountain Getaway overlooking The Roaring River on the vineyard

The Lodgings at Roaring River Vineyards (RRV) - the hidden gems in the NC mountains. Located just two miles from Stone Mountain State Park, in the Yadkin Valley Wine Appellation in the heart of NC Wine Country, home of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the NC foothills, and overlooking the Roaring River as far as the eye can see.

The Cedar Unit is one of three units located in the "Lodgings on Roaring River Vineyards".
Cedar is located on the 2nd and 3rd Floor of the lodge overlooking the Roaring River. This unit sleeps 8. There are 3 bedrooms: Master Suite Bedroom 1 (King bed)/master bath, Loft Bedroom 2 (Twin beds), Bear themed bedroom (King bed), fishing Themed bedroom (Queen bed). The unit has a breakfast area with 1 table and 4 chairs, a laundry room with washer /dryer, and a pantry. The dining room has a table and 8 chairs, the family room has a sofa and love seat, smart TV. There is a wrap-around covered porch on the main level, with an outdoor dining table and 8 chairs, and a conversation sitting area for 8, a BBQ grill.
The amenities are so numerous that this vineyard is becoming a destination in and of itself. There is a private beach, a swimming hole, and private fishing on the river and in the ponds. There is also bow-hunting in season. We have a spa building with a hot tub, dining table, chairs, and two lounge chairs, that connect to the rental unit with a covered breezeway. There are several lawn games such as Bocce Ball, Corn Hole Toss, Horseshoe Pits, and Croquet. Another fun activity is to picnic amongst the grapevines, or for that matter, anywhere on the 50-acre vineyard estate.

The Vineyard Property:
This property is located on the historic site of the Brewer Mills which once operated a gristmill, a sawmill, and a dam. As well as right beside the Roaring River of Traphill, North Carolina.
The Chez Josephine restaurant/tasting room is the first building from the road. You can find additional information on the website that bears the vineyard's name. Between the restaurant and lodge is an open-air hot tub building surrounded on three sides by a lattice for privacy. It is a great place to relax and look at the river as it flows by with its melodious sounds. What can be better than being there while sipping on champagne?

The lodgings are the next building past Chez Josephine after turning onto the property. It has three rental units. Two that sleep two each on the bottom floor. Above is the Cedar suite that sleeps eight.
The Party Place is the building that is next door to the lodge. It is a place that you can use when you book all the units (together/same stay). It allows you to dine and watch TV together. This building has one half-covered deck and an inside and outside fireplace. The alfresco fireplace is surrounded by a rose garden over a pebble ground, with Adirondack tables and chairs. This is the place to be when you want to roast S'mores sip wine and mingle with the other guests.

A lovely location - you will like it, but a few small issues
This was our second time staying here. First time we were in the lower apartments. This time we rented the second and third floor. Four adults. The property is just wonderful, right on the Roaring River. One night there was a lot of rain, and the river came up a lot and was really roaring! The facility is quite nice, but had a few issues: The place needs a good deep cleaning. Quite a bit of the plates and cups cracked and chipped. Several lamps had no light bulbs, and there were a number of burned out bulbs. Some of the lights just don't work at all, and a number of light switches don't do anything. The ceiling fan/light in the master blew the breaker when we turned it. The owner came with an electrician and reset the breaker so that the outlets in that room would work, but no fan and no light for our stay. The owner was quite responsive in replacing light bulbs and brought in the cleaning person to clean the dust and cobwebs and dead bugs from the master room. In the master, one screen was missing and one did not seal completely, so if windows opened, the hornets and bugs could come in. Other window screens ok. Nice to open the windows at night to go to sleep to the sound of the river. Some rugs and carpet pretty worn out. There is a really nice fireplace area outside to sit around in the evening, but needs quite a bit of TLC. There is a hot tub, which we did not use, but did so last time, and it was quite nice. There is a restaurant on the property

Beautiful setting on the river
Nice accommodations overlooking the Roaring River and next to the winery. Close to the venue where the wedding we were attending was held. Comfortable bed and for the most part quiet.

Riverside Relaxation
Great house with plenty of room and well-appointed kitchen. Highlight is the huge porch overlooking the river. We spent most of our time on the porch, dining outside or enjoying the comfortable outdoor couch and chairs. Convenient location for visiting Stone Mountain and local wineries.

About the host

Thomas and Josephine are the owners. Tom is a retired engineer who worked for Westinghouse (later merged with Siemens). Josephine is of German descent but born and raised in France until the age of 15. She is now an American citizen. Both retired from corporate careers they decided to buy this property for a weekend home. When discussing the future cottage they were going to build, Josephine stated that she would like a couple of row of grapevines to remind her of her native France. Tom google where to buy grapevines and stumbled on a seminar that was all about vineyards and everything you wanted to know about viticulture and enology. When Tom left the seminar he had stars in his eyes and Josephine knew something was up, The vineyard dream was born. Now 17 years later we are a full resort with the vineyards, wine tasting room and restaurant, vacation rentals and event venues. Voila!

Why they chose this property

This property is gorgeous, with beautiful scenery all around, the majestic Raoring River that flows down from Stone Mountain State Park. This is the site of the two historical Brewer mills that were destroyed during the June 1940 one-hundred year flood event. The dam was destroyed moving tons of silt over the gristmill and sawmill machinery. The mills never operated again. The gristmill is located below our new wine tasting room and Chez Josephine Restaurant. The stacked stone columns that can be seen across the river are the remains of the sawmill. The miller's cabin is still standing and we are in the process of remodeling it as another rental unit. (perhaps end of 2019?). Our property is part of the Stone Mountain mountain range (Stone Mountain state Park is just 10 minutes away). The lodge overlooks the Roaring River with a wrap-around covered porch that has a great view of the river and other buildings on the property. It is well appointed with upscale furnishings with a mountain look (not primitive!). The kitchen is well appointed, and the decor is very charming part mountain with a bit of French flair. The landscaping is beautiful all over the property.

What makes this property unique

You are on a full service resort that offers a vineyard, wine and beer tasting room, a restaurant, vacation rentals, and several event venues. All buildings overlook the river. Our guests constantly comment about how beautiful it is, they love to meet us (the owners) who are almost always present and interact with the guests. This is quite unusual and very refreshing. The wines are very good and the food is delicious. This with our friendly staff sets us apart from all the others! When you compare units just do not look at price -- look at what you get for what you are paying for! You get so much more here!
