About this property

Secluded 3-bedroom Cabin on Farm

This secluded 3-bedroom cabin has everything you need for your perfect Louisiana-getaway. No traffic, noise or neighbors. Located on 220 acres adjacent to the Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge, the property includes freshwater lakes, a swimming beach with picnic area, and multiple trails for hiking. Guests have easy access to the BCNWR for deer, hog and other seasonal game hunting, as well as canoes, kayaks and a paddle boat for the water. We have blueberries, whitetail deer and chickens supplying fresh yard eggs, while here and while they are laying. There is a fire pit for s’mores, etc.

We live on the property with our two dogs, 5 chickens, 2 cats, and our herd of whitetail deer. Blueberry season is from late May until mid July and coincides with the fawning season for the deer. For more information on the BCNWR, go to its website.

Boat launch with a two bay boat house is available for your use should you want to bring your boat. We also have two canoes, two kayaks, with life jackets and paddles for your complimentary use while here. There are two miles of trails for hiking around the property. From May 15 - July 1, there are fresh blueberries to enjoy during your stay. We have a 30 acre sandy bottom fresh water lake with picnic pavilion for swimming or whatever you choose to do.

We are available for any need that arises during your stay. We can stock the frig with whatever you need upon advance notice. Fresh eggs are complimentary, while the hens are laying, as is coffee, tea and other condiments.

Home away from home
We came to celebrate our son's birthday, and everything about our stay was exceptional! We could not have felt more at home and comfortable in the cabin! Our family of 5 always had something to do while on the property, from feeding the deer (personal favorite), to fishing the ponds, walking the trails, catching frogs and lizards, basketball games and an epic cornhole tournament! We had a nice little thunderstorm during our stay that made for great sleeping in the cabin, and the huge covered patio was great for grilling and enjoying the storm. The sunset cruise in the pontoon boat was the nicest, most relaxing trip down the Pearl River, and the perfect way to end our last day in Louisiana. The owners, Bill and Karen, were the absolute best! We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with them, and the knowledge they both shared. We will definitely be back, and during blueberry season next time!

Wonderful As Always
This was our fourth time to stay at the farm, and, as always, it was wonderful. The cabin is spotless, the grounds are beautiful, and Bill and Karen are such amazing hosts. They truly made this year’s trip the best we’ve had down here. You can be as involved on the property as you want. Feeding the deer with the provided corn, riding the property with the available-to-rent golf cart, and canoeing or kayaking on the canal are all options you can enjoy. When you’re ready to go out, Abita Springs is a fun, quaint little town about 20 minutes away, where you can get food and drinks at Abita Brew Pub, or an amazing breakfast at Abita Springs Café (it truly is one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had). Covington is the “big city” 30 minutes away, with more restaurants (including a Café du Monde) and grocery stores. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway with the friendliest hosts you’ve ever met, you need to come to the farm!

Abita Fall Fest
Great place to stay. Was in Abita Springs for the Fall Fest and chose to stay here. Did not spend much time at the house due to a busy schedule but would definitely come back and highly recommend for a getaway.

About the host

Karen and Bill have been married for 33 years, raising 4 children who have left the nest and the payroll. Bill has retired and they have moved back to the farm to raise chickens, deer and blueberries. We enjoy the outdoors and meeting new guests.

Why they chose this property

I bought this property when I was in college as an original 22 acre property at the end of the road. I added another 18 acres in 1981 and another 350 acres in 1996. After selling some acreage in 1998 we ended up with 220 acres. We met on the property back in 1987 while water skiing. I built the log cabin in the early 80s and converted it to the VRBO unit in 2019.

What makes this property unique

Secluded with no noise, no neighbors and no traffic. You want to get away from it all and enjoy the solitude of nature, this is the place for you. Our chickens provide fresh eggs for your enjoyment while here. You can help us feed the deer if you are here during feeding time. Pick fresh blueberries for your breakfast during the season. In early spring, enjoy the new green growth on the cypress and oak trees and other plants as you walk along the many trails we have. Also in early Spring, watch as the Swallow Tail Kites return from their stay in South America and make their nests on the property. One of the most graceful birds you will ever see soar over the fields and the ponds/lakes. The hummingbirds also return at around the same time. Late April brings the extraordinary display the fireflies put on during their mating season. Literally hundreds of fireflies are found with their glows in sync on certain evenings after dark. Truly an amazing site to see. In mid May through July, the deer are having their fawns which is another exciting time on the farm. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, enjoy the water sports on the waters around the property. Fall brings with it the colors of the cypress and maple trees changing to burn orange and red. As a special treat for those who book stays of 4 nights or more, enjoy a complimentary Blueberry Crostata, Bill's favorite blueberry dessert, topped with Bluebell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. It's to die for. Also included is a complimentary bottle of wine of your choice. Let us know if you like white or red.
