My wife and I visited Acadia for the first time and spent a week in August (2017) at Command Post. And the experience was pleasantly special. (And we are picky, world travelers). Firstly Command Post was super clean and fresh smelling and feeling. HIGHLIGHTS - Bed was super comfy. - Cottage had all we needed lobster pot to steam and eat lobster, binoculars - Layout of the footage was terrific as you can walk through the place room to room easily, - Wrap around outside desk was terrifically convenience - Views of Somes Sound and Acadia mountains were spectacular. Matter of fact we watched the solar eclipse from the back deck as well as a sailboat regatta. NOTE: There is an inside "gas fired fireplace stove" and not a traditional wood stove. UNIQUE BOAT RIDES & LOCAL INSIGHTS Mimi and Rick (Maine natives) could not be more friendly as Rick invited us out lobstering and we witnessed this Maine tradition and fishery first hand (not to mention the amazingly fresh lobster he provided us at super reasonable (below market rates) rates, we ate 14 lobsters + local steamers, clams thru the week!!!). Also Mimi and Rick kindly invited us out on a sunset cheese and cracker cruise of which we experienced seeing 2 bald eagles, 2 harbor seals, and 2 porpoises feeding on a school of mackerel. Rick knows all the fine details of the homes and community. Mimi can tell you all the fine details of where to go on the "quiet side" like where to find fresh popovers nearby LOCATION The location of the cottage is superbly convenient being no more than 25 minutes to any Acadia / Mount Desert Island destinations. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS Most attractions were closer like minutes away....including Echo Lake boat launch (for stand up paddle boarding, fishing boats or kayaks), as well as the Rouge Cafe (delicious and innovative locally sourced dishes), SW harbor (shops, and ferry to Cranberry Islands), Bass Harbor Lighthouse, Acadia Rep Theatre and the Beech Hill Farm Stand (run by the College of the Atlantic) and has delicious local veggies and ice cream. OVERALL Our week @ Command Post was a relaxing, fun and a cozy lobster filled experience. WE WILL BE BACK!
