A light and airy, top floor apartment, in a very pretty late Victorian mansion block - a small oasis, peaceful and quiet with a little south-facing balcony overlooking a leafy square. The flat is a perfect base for any length of stay - a short walk to London School of Economics, UCL, Lincoln's Inn, Grey's Inn, and the central London hospitals.
The apartment is fairly small but well designed and easy to use, with natural stone travertine floors throughout - decor is cool contemporary within the period building; you'll find it spotless, clutter free, but warm and cosy too. It's on the fourth floor, and there isn't a lift, so be warned, although the staircase is only a small one (see photo), and I think it's worth it for the quiet, the light, and the lovely view.
There's one bedroom (with a very comfy double bed) that leads into a separate living room with a door that leads out onto the balcony. The kitchen is fully equipped, and fitted with cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, also running filter water. The bathroom has a bath and power shower. Hot water is 24/7. There's a separate WC.
High speed Wifi Internet, also flat screen Sony TV complete with Virgin digital channels and TV on demand.
THE AREA
Tucked away on a very pretty London Square, yet within easy walking distance of Covent Garden, Soho, and the West End. The British Museum is on our doorstep. This historic area is also home to John Soanes museum, Doctor Johnson's house, and so much more - really worth exploring. There's nowhere in London that's more Dickensian at Christmas time - or more beautiful in the summer time. It takes ten to fifteen minutes to walk down to the river, where you can explore the Thames paths, all the way to the Tower of London and Tate Modern in one direction, and Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, the other.
The area offers restaurants of every type, shops, theatres, cinemas, clubs, bars and pubs are all in close walking distance. Lambs Conduit Street, one of the most special streets in London, is two minutes away, with its own unique array of indi shops, bars and restaurants. Charles Dickens himself was once a resident of the area - he put the character Pip from Great Expectations in lodgings at Barnard's Inn, a few streets away.
The block itself is extremely well cared for and peaceful. Build in the late Victorian period, and carrying a Grade II Listing, the building, and has all the aesthetic benefits its history brings, meanwhile we strive to ensure the general upkeep and facilities are all strictly 21st century.
The nearest tubes are HOLBORN (3MINS WALK) Central and Piccadilly line (direct from Heathrow), and CHANCERY LANE (5MINS WALK) Central line. Kings Cross St Pancras Station is two stops on the Piccadilly Line, a ten minute taxi ride, or a twenty minute walk away.
The buses are endless and to everywhere! We also have a London bike hire stand in the square.
Daily or short term, no strings gym membership is available, three mins walk from the apartment (3 days £24).
CHECK IN
I meet the guests, hand over the keys and give a brief user guide to the apartment. After that, I give guests all the space they need to enjoy their trip, at the same time, I stress that help, should it be necessary, is a phone call away.
Whilst I am completely new to VRBO I have been renting my place since 2012, and am including a few of my reviews for your information.
"This Red Lion Square flat is in an ideal location for exploring central London. Being several floors up from a small leafy park and off the main streets, it’s also very quiet. The apartment is compact, but has everything you’ll need, including a number of thoughtful amenities and good wifi. The rooms are nicely decorated and the sitting room is especially pleasant with the balcony windows open to the park. There are supermarkets, cafes, pubs and the Tube all within 2-3 mins walk from the front door. The area seemed reasonably safe and I felt comfortable walking back to the flat even late at night".
"I spent three months in Jill Elizabeth's flat and I would highly recommend it. The flat is very stylish, clean and tidy - it looks even better than in the pictures! It is well stocked, it offers everything you need for long or short stays. It is also very quiet, there was absolutely no noise from the other flats in the building. The location is perfect, just a three minute walk from the Holborn tube station and one minute from several bus stops that will get you anywhere in London. Lots of shops (supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants etc.) and sights (British Museum, Royal Courts of Justice, Lincoln's Inn, Covent Garden, the theatres in Soho..) are within easy walking distance. The area is very safe and I was comfortable walking home at any day or night time. Jill Elizabeth is very accommodating and takes great care of the flat and her guests. Upon arrival, she helped me with my bags and showed me around the apartment. During my stay, she was super nice and responsive whenever I had a question. Overall, I loved staying there and I would definitely come back".
"I'd highly recommend Elizabeth's place to anyone. It was a delight to stay in. The location is great with access to public transport and shops. The flat is light and airy with nice furniture. Elizabeth is a kind hostess. I very much hope that I will be able to return to stay sometime in the future".
