About this property

Casa dell'Artista, beautiful medieval house in Tuscan village, stunning views

Casa Dell’ Artista is situated in the medieval perched village of Roccatederighi in the heart of Tuscany, 1 hours drive from Siena. This is an ideal location for discovering all that Tuscany has to offer, the cuisine, the art and the Tuscan towns.
Roccatederighi is a lively village with 2 butchers, bakery, fresh vegetable shop, grocers and supermarket. The house is within a 5 minute walking distance of all the local shops, bars and restaurants. There are 4 restaurants and 3 bars/cafes in the village and many more in the immediate locality.
The village lies at a height of 1,500 feet and one of its distinguishing features are the rocks with their stunning views.

The house, which has its own small turret and secluded garden, offering spectacular views over the Maremma Plain and to the sea in the distance. This view can be enjoyed from all the windows. The old cobbled streets, which are traffic free add to the atmosphere of peace and tranquility and it is totally safe and secure. There are 2 large car parks 5 minutes walk away.

Completely restored, the house is on 3 levels.
The main entrance is accessed via a garden gate, which leads onto the vine covered terrace, from which there is the main door, leading onto the ground floor.

The upper floor : main bedroom, complete with double bed, en suite bathroom and a large terrace, with chairs and table.
From here, you can sit and enjoy the spectacular scenery and the wild birds including wood - peckers, owls, swallows ,swifts, house martins, and birds of prey (including buzzards, falcons and Snake Eagles) soaring in the thermals.

Ground Floor:The living area has a TV, DVD and large open fireplace. Wi-Fi

This extends through an archway into a light, modern kitchen and dining area also with a wonderful old beamed ceiling.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, dishwasher, etc. (There is a washing machine in the bathroom and a fridge freezer in the garden room). The dining area has a dining table and 6 chairs with two windows providing dramatic views of the volcanic rock structures and surrounding countryside.

The lower floor: two further twin bedrooms and a large family bathroom, which provides access onto the garden. The larger twin bedroom contains two large single beds and wardrobe. The other smaller bedroom is situated in the turret and has a single bed with a pull out bed of the same size.

The south facing garden is another feature with its vine covered terrace, bay tree, fig tree and terracotta pots. The house has two outside terraces both with amazing views.

Our house manager is Riccardo Baldanzi, a very friendly local man who has lived in the village with his family all his life. Riccardo is also an olive/wine farmer, local tourist guide, and owns the local bike repair/rental shop. Riccardo has looked after our house for 17 years and is available to help our guests with the transport of luggage, arranging tours including local History/Nature/Wine/Bike tours .

Fantastic athmosphere in rural Italy
The house with its views is in a fantastic location. The house is really charming and it’s amenities are really “Italian” - but we learned to love this anyway. The town life is fantastic - you can stay for 2 weeks without going anywhere. Bars, restaurants, shopping - it has it all :-) We needed wi-fi for work - and it was really fast.

Full of surprises and travel back to history
Ricardo is great, as everyone writes about. The owner is easy to get in touch with. The views are beautiful. But it is worth writing what is the essence of the house. Roccacaterighi is a medieval mystery. You live at the end of the town and have to climb up narrow steep streets to get to the house. It might as well be full of tourists, souvenir shops and bustle. But it is different. It's a town saved from tourists, but no worse for wear than other historic towns in the Tuscan hills. Here you are in the Middle Ages and if you value contact with history, peace and quiet then this is the place for you. The price is that you cannot park in front of the house. But it is worth it! There are good restaurants, shops are available and that's true. But for us the most important thing was the house. We always rent houses or flats, but I have never encountered such an equipped kitchen and dining room. Even the knives were sharp and everything we needed was in place. In addition, the kitchen is large stocked with a microwave, a large dishwasher, a large convenient oven. If you like to cook for yourself then you are in paradise! The windows provide a natural breeze and even at +39 degrees outside it was nice. The other surprise was the internet - fast, efficient with no restrictions. Downstairs a bit rocky basement smell but temperature difference wonderful. Comfortable mattresses. Perfect place for 4-5 people. Thank you for the opportunity to stay for 14 days, we missed one more week.

Unique location with breathtaking views
We used the villa as a base for exploring Tuscany. But it was wonderful to return after a long and arduous day to this mountain top outlook. The local support was friendly, prompt and helpful. Several good local restaurants within walking distance plus village shops. We would return in a heartbeat.

Besonderes Haus in freundlichem Dorf

Autentic Holiday
As a family (3 children: 11, 8, 6) we spent wonderful days here. Anyone who spends their holidays here in Roccatiderghi expects a wonderfully nice village where there is everything you need: a butcher, a greengrocer, several restaurants, a small supermarket and above all: very friendly and communicative people. This applies in particular to Ricardo, who is the local contact for the house. He helps with check-in and especially with luggage transport. Roccatiderghi is a medieval hilltop village with narrow, steep streets. Excursions from here are possible: the sea takes just under an hour, as does Siena. A highlight is certainly this holiday home. There is plenty of room for a family on three floors - you live in a small castle with a FABULOUS view from the roof terrace over the entire Marema - WOW! Many thanks to Chris Kennedy for the opportunity to live here - as authentic as you can hardly imagine. Highest recommendation for all those who are looking for something like this!

I am a retired solicitor and my wife is a teacher. We have two sons in their thirties and we acquired the property when they were teenagers. After 16 years, we all still love the house and village

Why they chose this property

We came for a holiday to Roccatederighi in 2002 and fell in love with its beauty and uniqueness. We had no intention of buying a place in Tuscany but we were enchanted by the place and the people. We decided to look around to see if we could find a place suitable for our family. Our one criteria when we were looking at properties was that the property should have adequate outside space, good views and also be within easy driving distance of the coast and hill-top towns.

We were therefore thrilled to find Casa dell'Artista with so much outside space, two terraces and a garden. We were very fortunate to find this unique house.

Although it was perfectly habitable and an artist and his family were living there, we totally renovated it. We have continued to improve the house over the years.

What makes this property unique

One of the unique qualities of Roccatederighi is that it is a genuine Tuscan village, full of charm and life. The people are wonderful, friendly, helpful and genuinely kind.
The uniqueness of the house is, without doubt its location and the astounding views, which extend across the Maremma plains to the sea and the islands of Elba, Giglio and Corsica.
It offers peace and tranquility and yet in less than 5 minutes you can be in the heart of the village with its bars and restaurants.
The Medieval character of the house is also unique. It has a history but is modernised and comfortable.
