Town: The stunning valley of Farndale is in the North York Moors National Park and in spring there is a spectacular display of daffodils along the side of the River Dove. The fields are divided by ancient dry stone walls and the narrow lanes wind around the spectacular valley. The lovely old market town of Kirkbymoorside is 10 miles away and has a good selection of shops and restaurants as well as a market every Wednesday, when the stalls are set out on the charming cobbled streets. Pickering is home to the North York Steam Railway and trains run from here to Grosmont along an 18-mile stretch of glorious countryside. Walkers have many trails and footpaths to follow and this is a fabulous area for a holiday at any time of the year.

Fab area
Very cozy, private, and quiet. Owners on site if you need them. Central for walking on the Moors, seaside within an hour and shops. Not far from anywhere, and lovely spot to stay.

Wonderful, restful week at The Arches
We stayed in the first week of August'16. The setting is idyllic, with amazing views. We could not fault the location or the way The Arches was presented. The rooms were very well proportioned, with plenty of room for all six of us. On arrival there was tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh milk waiting as well as a bottle of wine. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of crockery, cooking utensils and all of the white goods worked. Bedrooms were spacious, light and the beds comfortable. There was ample storage space. The whole house was sympathetically furnished and was clean. There was plenty of towels and the bathroom offered plenty of hot water after a long walk on the moors! Church Houses was a very short walk, where the Feversham Arms and Daffy Cafe were located. The nearest shops were a 20 minute drive away. We would thoroughly recommend a visit to the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge. The food and beer was excellent. Our 8 year old enjoyed being so close to the farm animals. In the field by the house was sheep, whilst opposite there were sheep, ducks and geese. We were regularly visited by the farm's peacock and his peahens as well as some of the chickens and they were tame enough to be fed at close quarters. The Arches is ideally located for walking the moors and exploring the surrounding area. We visited Hutton Le Hole, Helmsley, Pickering, Scarborough, Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. As a keen road cyclist, I enjoyed the surrounding roads - Blakey Bank and Rosedale Chimney are just 2 of the challenges on offer. The neighbouring cottage had guests staying whilst we were there, but the walls are so thick, we did not hear them. All in all, we had a brilliant time at The Arches. We had a fabulously relaxing stay and I cannot speak highly enough of the welcome we received from Lee and the way the house was presented. We will certainly be returning! Mr D Mason
