About this property

Historic home in downtown Mystic-1 block from green, river, shops & restaurants

Step back in time to 1828 and walk the same halls as Charles Mallory, Mystic’s most prominent shipbuilder (see Mallory buildings and exhibits on display at Mystic Seaport). The Charles Mallory House is a 7 bedroom (sleeps 15), 4.5 bath (3750 sq ft) home located on .65 acre. This newly renovated home was the home of Charles Mallory and his decedents from 1828-2012. Located in historic downtown Mystic, the Charles Mallory Mystic House is ideal for extended/multi-generational family celebrations and reunions. Are you the parent(s) of the bride or groom who is getting married in the surrounding area? Or parent(s) of a Coast Guard student, Connecticut College student, or other academic institution? If so, this is the perfect house to accommodate your guests who are attending your once in a lifetime functions. Leave your car behind as this Greek Revival Home is a 1 block walk to Main Street Mystic, Mystic Green and River, numerous restaurants, bakeries, shops and the infamous Mystic River Bascule Bridge.

Beautiful flower gardens surround the house as well as a front and side porch, a 1,000 sq foot antique bluestone patio with grill, and picturesque 7 foot fountain. An expansive back yard is perfect for your family gatherings or a quiet time to read a book or swing on the tree swing. Two Stand Up Paddle boards (SUPs) that convert into kayaks and 2 kayaks are available for your use. Please note, per recommendation of our insurance company, there are four outdoor surveillance cameras. One camera covers the backyard and carriage house, a second camera covers the driveway and the third camera covers the the patio area. A ring camera is located on the front of the house. There are no cameras located inside our home.

The Charles Mallory House has two floors. The first floor showcases a gourmet kitchen that includes an 8 burner, 2 oven Wolf stove, pot filler, Sub-Zero refrigerator, Miele dishwasher, an over sized island and granite counter tops. Four fireplaces are located in the dining room, family room, living room and bedroom. The first floor bedroom (king bed) with an en suite bathroom is perfect for guest who do not want to climb stairs. A half bath completes the first floor living area.

A foyer with a grand curved staircase (great for pictures) takes guests to second floor or guests can enter the second floor via the servants stairway. Three more fireplaces can be found among the 6 second floor bedrooms (2 king bedrooms- 1 with attached bathroom, 2 queen bedrooms, 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds, 1 bedroom with bunk bed and trundle). A total of 3 full bathrooms complete the second floor living area.

This downtown location is only a 5 minute drive to Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Esker Point Beach and Williams Beach, movie theaters, Old Mystic Village shopping, wineries, Fields of Fire Adventure Park and only 20 minutes to Rhode Island Beaches, Foxwoods, and Mohegan Sun Casinos. This property requires the signing of a contract that includes cancellation terms, payment details, and rental terms that could not be outlined within the constructs of the VRBO rental framework. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out for clarification. Thank you for looking at our house and we look forward to having you and your friends and/or family members as our guests.

Great place for extended family gathering
The location meant there were many sites to see within walking distance or a short drive. The home was comfortable and beautiful. The hosts were extremely responsive to messages whenever we had any questions.

Dream Trip
I have been planning a trip for my American Literature class to go to New England and see examples of the places we read about and to enjoy the rich literary past. Staying at the Mallory house made this trip perfect. The students were overwhelmed at the beauty and the history of the house. We had 11 people in our group, and the space was perfect. We had plenty of room to spread out comfortably, and the dining room was perfect for getting assignments and meeting to go over the plan for the next day. Our stay could not have been more perfect. I have already recommended the house to several people!

Weekend Reunion
We had a reunion of seven couples that have been boating together for many years. The house was perfect for this event. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking, the dining room accommodated us nicely and the living rooms were a great place to sit and talk. Everyone had their own bedroom and there were plenty of bathrooms for us. We all enjoyed our stay, not a complaint from anyone.

About the host

Host profile image
We are excited to share our home with you. Lynn is a retired educational administrator and Skip is a retired executive of a software company. Traveling and spending time with family are their biggest joys in life. Parents to 2 daughters, 2 son-in -laws and grandparents to 5 grandchildren keep them very busy. Over an 8 year time span, they have lovingly restored the Charles Mallory Mystic house touching every inch of this home. After leaving the area for work and family, they wanted to relocate to the Mystic area. They currently reside in Haddam CT.

Why they chose this property

Lynn and Skip grew up in the Mystic area during their middle school and high school years. They were married and had their reception at Mystic Seaport (Seaman's Inn). After leaving the area for work and family, they knew that they wanted to spend their retirement years in the beautiful town of Mystic. When the Charles Mallory Mystic home came up for sale it was in need of great repair with cracked walls, falling down ceilings and painted floors to name a few of the repairs. Nonetheless, they saw the inner beauty of this home. Charles Mallory Mystic is too beautiful to keep to themselves, so they are sharing this special home with others so that you can make special memories that will last a lifetime.

What makes this property unique

Location! Location! Location! It is a rare opportunity to have a historic 7 bedroom, 4.5 bedroom on .65 acre in the heart of downtown Mystic. This home has it all. Sit on one of the two outside porches, swing on the tree swing, play catch in the backyard or cook in the beautiful chef kitchen. Want to take in the excitement of downtown Mystic? Walk less than .04 mile to enjoy a casual lunch or elegant dinner, or shop in the unique boutiques. At the end of the day, come back to the tranquility and quietness that Charles Mallory Mystic has to offer. Your stay at the Charles Mallory Mystic home is the perfect setting for your multi-generational family function and the backdrop for making lifetime memories.
