About this property

A Rural Tiny House Sanctuary!

This one of a kind 420 square ft tiny house is truly a rural Minnesota sanctuary! Nestled away in the quiet little town of Hewitt (pop 252), this artistically designed home and large fenced in yard will make you never want to return to big city life. With plenty of natural light, a spacious kitchen with large fridge/freezer, full sized electric stove, reverse osmosis drinking water fountain, high speed wired internet, queen size zero gravity bed, pullout full sized hide-a-bed, gas fireplace and washer and dryer; you have the necessary amenities to spend one cozy night or settle in for an entire week or more!

Yes this funky house is adorable, but what about the enormous yard including unique gardens, hammock, bee hives and fire pit! You, your family and pet(s) are able to roam free without a leash in your bare feet and depending on the season may be able to enjoy some of nature's bounty from the organic gardens and fruit trees. Bicycles and cross country skis are available for use on the trail located directly across the street and don't forget to bring your fishing pole to catch trout from the mighty Wing River that runs through town!

Beyond happy
We loved our stay here SO MUCH!!!! There is nothing we needed and didn’t have! It’s so cute and clean. My dog Frank and his dog friend Rupert were so happy in the big yard. Michael is so friendly and I felt very safe. This was such a great experience!

Truly relaxing
Michael made our stay wonderful. There were so many thoughtful gestures, such a bowl of water ready for the dog and cucumbers from his garden. The house is charming and filled with art and a really inviting ambience. We had everything we needed at hand, and the check-in/check-out process was seamless. We definitely want to return, hopefully soon!

A little bit of home...on the road
This is a beautiful respite for wandering travelers. Very purposefully setup cottage which is not merely functional and practical it is also a real peaceful stop. Our host was warm and welcoming. Thank you. The setting was quiet and comfortable. Thank you. The beautiful region of farmland and small towns, each with their proprietor's own twist on coffee shops were just great. Thank you. Center of nowhere with so much of everything near or close by. Thank you.

Why they chose this property

Personally I have reclaimed my heath by working with holistic practitioners, detoxing my body and eliminating toxins in my environment.

It is intentional that there is no wifi or smart meter at the Hollyhock Hewitt tiny house due to the subtle stress they create. Above average high speed wired internet is available though, so bring an ethernet adaptor for your phone, tablet or computer and you'll have unlimited fast reliable internet! Just ask if you don't have an ethernet adaptor as I may have one that works for your device. :) As much as possible, I go out of my way to use natural non-toxic products and materials in my environment. Hollyhock Hewitt has hardwood and real tile floors, plenty of air cleaning house plants and a reverse osmosis water filter attached to the kitchen sink for chemical free drinking water. I study bio dynamic farming and permaculture practices and have never used any chemicals in the gardens or in the yard. Hewitt is a very interesting place to say the least; home to a mix of folks from all over the country with fascinating backgrounds! Did I mention that Hollyhock Hewitt now has honey bees?! You may find multiple very busy bee hives around the property. Truly Hollyhock Hewitt is a unique, liberating and relaxing place to live and visit!

What makes this property unique

Previously I worked as the Executive Director of the Nemeth Art Center in Park Rapids. Through this experience I connected with numerous high quality contemporary artists from throughout Minnesota and beyond and I display some of these artists' work in the Hollyhock Hewitt tiny house.

I am the Secretary of the Hewitt Historical (Hysterical;) Society, so by request I may be able to give you a personal tour of the Historic Hewitt Public School Museum which is located 2 blocks east of Hollyhock Hewitt.

Hotel Hewitt (burned in 1933) was originally located on the property next to the tiny house, where the Odd Fellows Hall is located. Here is an excerpt from the Todd County History book describing the "Spiritualist" A.T. Mills who was the owner/editor of the Hewitt Enterprise (name later changed to Banner) Newspaper which was based out of the Hotel during his tenure: "Mr. Mills was an interesting man, a pronounced believer in spiritualism. During his residence at Hewitt, an incident occurred which occasioned considerable comment. A short distance west of the village lived John Owens, who went insane, and was missed from his usual haunts by his acquaintances. There was a thorough search made for him with without avail and every means was employed to find the missing man. Mr Mills finally told the searchers that he could tell them where to find him. As they had exhausted all their means of further search, they told him to go a ahead. Mr. Mills withdrew and sought communication with "the spirits" and in short time returned to them and told them that he could be found at a designated spot southwest of the village. Without any confidence the searchers proceeded to the place described by Mr. Mills. Arriving at the place, the man was found lying on the ground , still alive but so weak that he died shortly afterward. We regret that we have no information of Mr. Mill subsequent to his selling out and removing from Hewitt."
