About this property

Charming Lakefront Cottage Retreat with large sheltered garden and stunning view

Beautiful and tranquil Kingston is the perfect place for quality relaxation yet so central to the action and vibe of Queenstown.

This North facing cottage catches the sun and offers a beautiful and quaint place to base your Queenstown Lakes adventures or an excellent place to just rest and relax.

One of Kingston’s very first homesteads, this property is really unique. It is Kingston's only true lakefront residence (no roads to cross to access the beach/lake), is sheltered from the Northerly winds and has a small stream flowing through the garden to the lake. With 2 large comfortable beds providing a great sleep for up to 4 guests, the property is thoughtfully furnished and appointed while retaining the unique and rustic charm that really sets it apart from other accommodation options.

Enjoy the silence and stunning mountain and water views from the deck. Enjoy a wine and a good conversation with the doors opened to the garden or if the weathers bad perhaps watch some big screen TV in front of the wood fire.

Take a stroll along the waterfront to our local ‘Flyer’ Cafe/ Pub for a drink, a bite to eat or a takeaway pizza to take back and enjoy in front of the fire.

Great location for summer AND winter with only a 30 minute easy drive to Frankton/Queenstown and just 20-25 minutes to the Remarkables Ski Area access road.

MINIMUM BOOKING = 3 Nights (or equivalent $ for shorter stays)

Some Special conditions:
SMOKING IS ALLOWED outside only.
No tents/campervans or outdoor living on the property.
Outdoor fireplace is not available for guest use. Official fire bans are frequently in force in the area.

Extras: Linen (Required, NZ$50.00 per stay);

NOTE: 1) Under Kiwi crib tradition guests are expected to clean and tidy the house and do the dishes, leaving the property in the same condition as when they checked in.
NOTE: 2) For damages or theft - a small refundable damage protection bond is applicable

Tranquility and space
The photos tell the story. Property was clean. beautifully furnished and was a perfect end to a hectic two week trip around the South Island. Garden was great for our boys to let off steam, they loved having a dip in Lake Wakatipu only a few steps away from the back fence. The Kingston Flyer Cafe was great l, as was the walk up to the lookout behind. A lovely quiet village with knockout views of the lake and mountains, a great counterpoint to Queenstown at the other end of the lake.

Kingston lakeside oasis
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Mark’s beautiful little cottage. The living/dining and kitchen area was very stylishly decorated by his wife with lovely private green lawn and garden surroundings. Just outside the garden gate is the lake foreshore and beach area with stunning views of the lake and mountains. The Kingston location was a very peaceful, beautiful contrast to the upbeat, commercial and busy tourist feel of Queenstown which was about half an hour’s drive away. Mark was a friendly and responsive host. We definitely recommend his place to anyone looking for a lakeside getaway who would appreciate and care for this special home.

Great base for fishing
Clean, cosy and with all the necessary elements to make your stay comfortable and hassle free. A great base for fishing rivers to the south or for staying out of the main part of Queenstown.

We had a lovely stay at this property. The place was comfortable and clean. Although it was winter, the fire place kept us warm. The lake was very close with great views.

We loved this property! So unique and comfortable with a lovely view. We especially enjoyed the wood burner as it was a bit chilly at night. Wish we had been able to stay longer!

Relaxing lakeside getaway
This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy Lake Wakatipu, the scenery is stunning and the view from the house, through the trees and garden, make it a tranquil setting. The property was clean and very comfortable and with the log burner warms the whole house when the temperature drops. The pub and corner shop are all you need for food and coffee fixes but Queenstown is an easy drive if you want something more. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful Kingston cabin
This cabin is beautifully decorated and has everything we needed for a 3-night stay in Kingston. It’s the perfect location for a quieter escape from Queenstown, while still within close proximity to everything the city has to offer.

Beautiful cozy house in cool location on lakeside
What a great place. Historic old cottage with views of the lake and short walk to it. The house has been beautifully decorated to maintain the historic character but also provide real comfort. It has everything you need.We loved the quite location away from Queenstown. There are also a small store and pub/restaurant nearby.

Beautiful bach
We chose this bach being our only option for accommodation somewhat near to Milford Sound. It was a bit more than I wanted to pay but that said it is a very nice bach. Beautiful place and nice location a couple minute walk to the lake. The beds were also very comfortable and had the two best nights of sleep on my two week visit to New Zealand.

Disappointing
Arrived & found the refrigerator not working. Contacted Mark (owner) who then contacted Amy (prop manager) all this was a rather long & protracted process. Many hours later Mark said we could use a couple of shelves on 1 of the 2 fridges which are in a locked shed outside. This was not ideal. The hours spent waiting cost us our Dinner Reservation. We went to cook inside on the stove top but found that the ceiling extractor fan was not working. We then went to use BBQ, but neither of the 2 covered BBQ's had gas bottle. We then had to cook inside. Shocked to find a Gas Cylinder (outdoor BBQ, Camping style one) connected sitting inside the cupboard underneath the stove top. with no ventilation around that area. Maybe bring your own Canary. 4 plastic chairs for outside with no table or any cover was very disappointing. The view of the lake is quite restrictive through a gap in the shrubs. In order to get to the lake you need to go out on to the road and walk down, not direct access. The 2nd bedroom is very tiny. We didn't like the surprise of Cameras being used. On leaving Mark sent msg that a new fridge was purchased & going in that day. Overall we found that there were quite a few discrepancies with what was written in the listing, and they were not good ones.

A lovely retreat with comfort and privacy
Perfect little bach extremely well maintained and understandably cherished by the owners. Comfy and warm beds, easy access to the lake for a swim or a walk. A bit of a drive to Queestown and other activities available in the region but the drive is so beautiful and it feels good retreating from the crowd !

Very cosy cabin
Ideal location for cycling eastern sections of the Around the Mountain cycle trail. Only reason I marked accuracy of listing as a 3 is that the photo labelled "Charming Lakefront Cottage Retreat with large sheltered garden and stunning view" is not the view from the cottage. The cottage is nestled in trees with only a narrow gap to lake and Mountains beyond. On the plus side it's very sheltered from the wind.

Why they chose this property

We live in this property part time throughout every month of the year ourselves, so it is not a 'holiday home'.

Million dollar views every day and in all weathers. It's location is so close to the world famous, ever growing and bustling Queenstown but this property and Kingston offers a real sense of beauty, space, privacy, tranquility and a 'community' that cares.

What makes this property unique

Characterful historic cottage improved by previous owners who were interior designers. A beautiful balance of enough technology and 'comforts of home', with enough rustic romance to make every stay memorable.
- Free Wifi
- Large Sheltered Garden
- The only true waterfront residence in Kingston (no roads to
cross to get to the beach/lake)
- Garden Stream
