About this property

Friends & family gather - waterfront contemporary home "The Salty Rabbit”

Welcome to The Salty Rabbit - a spectacular contemporary home inspired by global travel and seaside living. Nestled between a salt pond teeming with birds, ducks and crabs and gorgeous Niantic Bay. The home is surrounded by rose bushes and sea grasses that shelter wild rabbits and white tailed deer. Relax with water views from every room and one house away from the private beach association, to which you and your guests will have access. The private beach, only open to surrounding homes, is sandy, beautiful, and quiet. No crazy parties and beer coolers on the beach here, this is tranquility at its finest. Terrific swimming and sunbathing in season, and beautiful quiet walks and bike rides around the flat neighborhood all year round. Bring your kayak, sunfish or giant unicorn float as they can be put in at the launch next to the beach. The Salty Rabbit is an idyllic spot to connect for a weekend with friends or family, celebrate a momentous occasion, or to rent for a week, a month or a season. Multi-month/short term lease available. Escape your covid surroundings and work remotely from paradise!

Note that while the home is waterfront, we have large jetty boulders in front so a 45 second walk to the beach is required for sandy beach access. Another small private beach is on the other side of the house and is a separate beach association. We are able to walk there and pick shells, but it is not technically ‘our beach,’ though association members have access to it from paths on the side and in front of our property. The outdoor shower is secluded, and wonderful for a post beach cleanse.

Home Description:
1 huge primary suite, The Aviation Room, with king sized bed and cable tv on the smart Samsung 8. Wake up to the sunrise from the bay window and watch the seagulls play each morning from the glass French doors that open to the balcony. Out on the balcony, sip coffee on the 2 reclining lounge chairs. Primary suite has a walk-in closet, laundry room and large bath. Primary bath has a glorious spa tub for 2 and spacious shower with four shower heads. Enjoy the towel warmer on the wall.

2 additional bedrooms are up a very short stack of stairs on the other side of the house. The Seagull Room has two twin beds and a small vanity. Relax with pond view from the back window and small ocean view from the side window.

The Whale Room bedroom upstairs has 1 queen sized bed, a writing desk and a rocking chair. You have beautiful pond views from the window in this room.

Both bedrooms have full length mirrors and wall mirrors for getting ready and doing hair and make-up. The upstairs rooms share a bathroom with tub/shower and lots of beautiful Turkish terrycloth towels.

Lounging and entertaining space include a library room with books and games. A huge living/dining space with a dining table for 8 and 2 love seats near a gas fireplace. These are open to the kitchen for easy entertaining. The kitchen, which we dream of updating, has older but working appliances, including two wall ovens, an electric stove, a microwave, a drip coffee pot, a chemex, an electric tea kettle, a french press, a single serving old school stove-top espresso maker, and a dishwasher. Lots of terrific counter space for baking, food prep, and serving. A good spice cabinet, coffee, tea, and sweeteners are always there for you to use. We have dishes, glasses, and barware for 8. Large windows with ocean views are all around.

Off the living room is the TV room with a large sectional couch and 70” smart tv with streaming cable. Good wifi throughout the house allows for you to login to or mirror your favorite streaming accounts or watch the Samsung TV and basic cable and sports channels.

Outside is a large entertaining deck with sitting and dining furniture during warm months.

This is the place you have been looking for. Book now – you deserve it!

The town of Niantic, or East Lyme, is THE quintessential quaint seaside New England town. It’s so cute that they film movies here. Great food, cute shops, and summer nightlife draw people from all over. It is an 8 minute drive into town. Nearby, enjoy many New England landmarks including Mystic Seaport and Aquarium, and the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos are 20 minutes away. The ferries in New London will take you to Fishers Island (seen from our home) and to Block Island. We are close to the Coastguard Academy, Conn College, Pfizer corporate headquarters in Groton, Electric Boat, and the Groton Submarine Force Museum. The quant towns of Essex with the famed Griswold Inn, the town of Old Lyme with it’s renowned art galleries and Florence Griswold Fine Art Museum, the towns of Clinton and Waterford have great outlet shopping, and there is more seafood than you could possibly ever desire. This is true New England at it’s finest. #saltyrabbitniantic

Home with a View
In short, this is one of the finest homes in which we have stayed. What made this home so special is that it was a "home." We felt like we were stepping into a good friend's home who couldn't wait till we arrived. It was truly impressive, no cookie cutter amenities, everything we needed and much more. Everything was spotless. The furnishings were well cared for and comfortable, including the beds. Linens and towels were of excellent quality, more than ample dishware, even the spices were plentiful for cooking. The view was wonderful, we were even treated to a sailing competition, only steps to a small private beach and while the weather was cool, it did not stop us from walking along the shoreline. The home is located in a well cared for neighborhood which was blessed with peace and quiet and friendly passersby. Communication with the owner was spot on, clearly eager to treat their guests well. Kiri and Rob could not have been more accommodating. There is no question that we would return when the opportunity presents itself. Thank you for a chance to recharge and gather with family.

Fantastic House on the Water
A group of us (6 adults) were in town for a sailing event at the nearby yacht club and the house could not have been more perfect, from the fireplace on the cold rainy days after sailing, to the front deck on the nice sunny beautiful days. We absolutely loved it!

An airline pilot and a management consultant, we curiously travel the world, sailing, shopping and eating. The travel is great but we always love coming home to quintessential New England. We are happy to share our home with you!

Why they chose this property

A great entertaining space for intimate gatherings and to connect with friends and family. See if you can spot Harry, our resident blue heron, who lives in the salt pond, or one of the many cottontail rabbits that hop around the property. Enjoy the spacious rooms and while the hours away walking or biking in the neighborhood and finding the perfect shells on the beach. The swimming is excellent and the crabbing even better! Welcome to paradise!

What makes this property unique

Huge open living spaces with gas fireplace for cozy nights. Water views from every room. Big deck for cocktails. Literally 45 second walk to big sandy beach. Perfect location for New England tourist sites and casinos. Large driveway in a neighborhood that does not allow street parking.
