When we arrived at the condo, it was filthy. Sand and dustballs all over the floor, used toilet paper in the MSBR toilet, sticky kitchen countertops, dirty dishes in the kitchen sink, long hair all over the sofa, dead bugs on the bathroom countertops, and crumbs all over the dining room table.
Trying to make the best of it, we opened every closet and cupboard we could see, searching for a vacuum cleaner, Lysol wipes, and other cleaning products. Upon opening the pantry next to the kitchen, we saw the inside of the door was covered in mold, top to bottom. On the other side of the kitchen, we also saw the overhead AC vent was all rusted and had water stains all over the ceiling. It was at this point we decided we would not be able to use this kitchen to prepare food for our family. We just thought it was unhealthy, not sanitary, and possibly unsafe. (My daughter was possibly pregnant.)
I suggested I could go out to restaurants and bring food home to enjoy on the balcony. That idea was thwarted when we found the outside balcony table unsuitable for food, or even human touch. At first we thought it was two-tone, but this metal table was almost exactly one half fully rusted, with flakes falling off when touched.
Spectrum Properties was quick to send out a cleaning team, but by that time my daughter didn't want to risk any more possible exposure to mold spores, so she left to stay with my son 30 minutes away inland. Since the sole elevator was broken, I had to find alternative accommodations for my wife as well, who could not manage the 4 flights of stairs. (The first floor is actually a series of nice covered car parking spaces, NOT available for use by renters). The elevator repairman told us it had been out of commission for 15 days, so a courtesy heads-up would have been nice.
The elevator was fixed 2 days later so my wife was able to rejoin me for the remainder of our "vacation". Building #3, where this unit is located, is in the shape of an "L", the bottom of the L being along the ocean. This unit is one condo away from being the farthest from the ocean (hence the obscured view from the balcony), and closest to a busy and loud highway that runs parallel to the ocean.
Overall, we feel totally ripped off and used. I have dozens of pictures documenting this "adventure", and I haven't even mentioned the plasticky, lumpy beds or peeling floor yet. This condo is filthy, mold-ridden, and in total disrepair. Renter beware!!
