About this property

Independent cottage with pool and tennis

The former servants’ quarters of Chateau En Gineste, the cottage has been transformed into a charming three-bedroom holiday home. The open-plan ground floor includes a spacious lounge / dining area and fully-equipped kitchen, while upstairs comprises three double bedrooms each with en suite bathroom. All rooms are fitted with reversible air conditioning and there is free wi-fi throughout.

The gite is surrounded by En Gineste’s stunning six acres of private grounds. The beautiful garden is made up of lawns, gravel walks and box topiary, cultivated beds bursting with colourful shrubs, and pockets of wooded shade.

A heated salt water swimming pool, open in the summer months, with poolside patio and barbecue area, and full-size tennis court are at guests’ exclusive disposal.

In July and August bookings are from Saturday to Saturday only (7 night minimum).

En Gineste is situated at the foot of the famous Black Mountains - the south-westernmost spur of the great European Massif Central and part of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park. Walkers who wind their way up its forested slopes are rewarded with some of the region’s most stunning views.

The surrounding countryside offers exceptional excursions for cyclists, with access to the Tarn cycle path just a few minutes’ ride from the house.

Around fifteen minutes’ drive away are the quaint village of Sorèze, with its famous abbey and monthly antiquarian book fair; the medieval market town of Revel, renowned for its weekly food market; and the idyllic Lac de Saint-Ferreol, whose cluster of lakeside restaurants buzz with diners during summer evenings.

Art lovers have close to hand both the Goya Museum in nearby bustling Castres and the outstanding Musée Toulouse-Lautrec in the historic prefecture town of Albi.

A little further afield (each about an hour by car) are the extraordinary medieval fortress citadel of Carcassonne and France’s sublime ville rose, Toulouse. Both cities have airports with direct UK connections.

British owners Peter and Tom, who live adjacent in the chateau, welcome families and groups of up to six people. There is also the possibility of accommodating an additional two guests (plus child) in an adjoining room with en suite bathroom. Please ask for details.

Fantastic stay in Lempaut
Peter and Tom's cottage was fabulous, and our group of 6 adults enjoyed a very comfortable stay for 4 nights. The grounds were lovely complete with swimming pool and tennis court. Had the weather been a bit more agreeable we would have utilized both as we were given free reign of both. Every little detail in the cottage was thought of and greatly appreciated. Plenty of board games to keep us entertained. The cottage was in a rural area but with Revel only a 10 minute drive away grocery shopping was easy. From the cottage we did a day trip to Carcassonne which is a must see in the region. Highly recommend the cottage for either a short stay or longer vacation.

Splendid - magnifique
The house is located in a beautiful region of France, there is plenty to do and explore in the area. The ancient yet restored cottage and the gardens make a wonderful holiday spot. Not only the cottage and its gardens gave us the perfect holiday. The hosts are fantastic! Thanks for getting the pool ready for us already!

About the host

Hosted by Peter and Tom

Host profile image
Peter Lewis and Tom Adair moved from London in September 2019 for a more peaceful life in the beautiful countryside of south west France. In his previous life Peter had owned and ran a successful floating music venue on the River Thames called The Battersea Barge and is also a pianist and composer. Tom was (and still is) a book dealer and he worked for many years in one of the few remaining bookshops on Charing Cross Road called Any Amount of Books. They discovered En Gineste at the end of a two week property search throughout the south of France, immediately fell in love with the house and gardens and moved in six months later. The first major job was to carefully renovate the old caretaker's cottage and now Peter and Tom look forward to welcoming guests in this attractive, well appointed gite.

What makes this property unique

Great area for walking and cycling, lots of first class restaurants nearby, reversible aircon, woodburning stove, football, tennis, table tennis and a heated pool.
